My hair looks like shit. What the hell am I going to do?

I had my hair cut short 2 weeks ago. I'd been feeling mumsy and frumpy and thought I'd be brave and have my long hair drastically restyled. It just looks so ugly though and I know I won't get used to it. I've taken to wearing baseball caps and bandanas Blush to hide all the clumpy layers at the top and I look foolish.

Hairdresser mentioned extensions but couldn't give me a price - she said somewhere between £400 and £700 Shock. She also said it wouldn't look good because the bonds would be visible.

I look mannish and ugly. I've been thinking of attaching strands of beads to my hair line just so I can scoop the lot back in a ponytail and hide the disaster underneath. I don't care if I look weird or quirky. I need outside the box suggestions here.

Sorry, can't make nice blue links as I'm on my phone, but a bandana tied in this style has saved me from some very dodgy homecuts Grin stick on some red lippy and some skinnies, and it'll be lovely vintage look to buy you some time until your hairs grown a bit Smile

DiddyKnockers · 03/04/2012 17:40

Oh God jif, that's right, it is Myra Hindley'ish isn't it. The horror! Who on earth would model themselves on her. Grin

LineRunner, bless you, you lovely lady.

Its NOT that bad!
It just looks sort of nothingy.

I have seen worse.
It is a difficult length though. Its not short enough to be a proper style.

You certainly dont look bad enough to hide in the flat! I wouldnt go for extentsions. They are high maintainence and v. expensive.

miche8 · 03/04/2012 17:42

its not that short, but i can see its such a change from your long hair - make small sections and really straighten it, use a heat spray obviously, i'd go to a hair dresser and have it cut shorter at the back like the victoria beckham link. Theres a girl on you tube that shows how to style this time of hair will see if i can find a link.

jifnotcif · 03/04/2012 17:43

How about one of these? You do have plenty of hair left, and great skin - I honestly can't see the lumpy neck. I got mine cut a bit like this recently and it's so much easier to manage - but you need to go quite short and always wear lippie. The kids call me Justin Bieber...

Oops, lots of cross-posts.

It is awful isn't it? [cries]

I'm not brave enough to lose the baseball cap yet Vicar. The thought of it makes me want to vomit. I am obsessed with the idea of this wig now.

Yes, I've just discovered my hair is wavy. Had no idea before, I suppose the length of it pulled it down straight. It has lots of volume (as you can see) which is not helping as I have way too much height.

I'll check out that bandana link scented - thank you.

Right, the truth is it is NOT that bad - seriously, I quite like it.

The hat and band look awful, sorry but they don't help at ALL. Much better without and show your new cut off.

Tyniclogs · 03/04/2012 17:46

Seriously...that is NOT a bad haircut. You have LOADS of hair still to work with and it won't take long to grow out at all. I thought we were talking Wayne Rooney short. Get rid of the cap..it makes you look like Perry.

Damn you...you have a lovely face to distract attention too.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/04/2012 17:48

It is NOT that bad!
The hat is though.

You dont need it.

jifnotcif · 03/04/2012 17:48

lol @ 'Perry' Grin

Tyniclogs · 03/04/2012 17:48

I've just ordered three different colours of clip in hair extenstions because I obviously don't feel ridiculous enough and I am still under the illusion I can pass for a 14 year old.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 03/04/2012 17:51

Definitely get rid of the baseball cap and band. If you want to keep it off your face you could try one of those thin bands in black and maybe slick your hair a bit, wear some studs, foundation and lip gloss and it would be a lovely understated look.

Really not as bad as I was expecting at all!

toddlerama · 03/04/2012 17:52

You've got loads of hair left! Why not try something like this ? I think it would look better with some forward motion - all pushed back off your face doesn't work when it's shorter.
Don't bother with extensions - they are always visible in real life.

valiumredhead · 03/04/2012 17:52

I like that suggestion toddler

Tyniclogs · 03/04/2012 17:53

Yes, I'm wondering what it looks like swept forward...does it 'sweep'?

valiumredhead · 03/04/2012 17:54

Ditch the cap though - honestly! throw it in the bin

DiddyKnockers · 03/04/2012 17:56

Shit, do I really look like Perry? That's even worse that Myra Hindley! [wails]

Those hairstyles are lovely but I don't think I have the face for them. Why did I not think of this when I chopped it all off.

I do still have lots of hair to work with but it's all on the top of my head. I have a kind of bicycle helmet effect going on as it just won't stay down.

Thanks for being kind you lot.

I'm going to remove the photos now.

jifnotcif · 03/04/2012 17:56

It all needs to come over the front love. Don't pull it back away from your face, pull it over the front and keep the fringe short-ish. My hairdresser would do it for you tomorrow. She taught me this because I have a bald patch. Yes indeed - that's how bad it could be, so stop fretting, you are one of the lucky ones.

You have excellent skin, you can see it still has its natural collagen (mine comes in a tube). I won't go into any more details for fear of sounding like a stalker, but you you have a fine face and decent hair - enjoy it!

doctordwt · 03/04/2012 17:59

it's ok! I read your thread and was expecting some convict look Grin

I would get it properly cropped, pixie style, but I can guess you wouldn't want to go shorter again. I'd go for messing round with Alice bands, using them to push the front bit up and back off your face, then product behind the band to make the rest of it do what you want?

Bit like this?

Aah Jif, thank you Smile

I love that band doctor. I'm going to treat myself.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/04/2012 19:16

I have looked back at the thread and cant find this band doctor

Gapants · 03/04/2012 19:26

StrawberrytallCAKE · 03/04/2012 19:50

I use ken paves for clip in extensions, very good! This might work for you -

chignon

carols9995 · 03/04/2012 22:08

We've all done it. Could you get a pretty hat until it grows?

Honky · 04/04/2012 07:50

Damnit, I missed the photo too. Please put it back up!
