*sounds klaxon* 30% GA peel shizzle that you can do at home

SeasonOfTheWitch · 20/03/2012 08:40

thought i ought to do a public service and announce it properly as hardly anyone seems to know you can buy this stuff to use at home - and it works out sooo much cheaper than having it done at a salon even tho it's the exact same stuff.

i've only used it once so far (for 3 mins) but have been properly amazed by the results - as i posted on another thread, my 11s have reduced by 50% [holy grail] and my skin generally looks brighter and more even.

you do it weekly, building up the time over 6 weeks and then have a break.

the magic goo is here: www.bravuralondon.com/glycolic-acid-30.html

don't forget to get the neutraliser (apparently just bicarb but maybe has crushed fairies' castles in it too Hmm so your choice) and use sun block in the day.

anyone a veteran of the stuff and care to share your results?

p.s. i don't work for bravura and i'm a MN regular recently name-changed to separate my S&B chat with my over-sharing on other threads.

Ooh look forward to hearing what you think pinkglow.
As the time goes on I am quite impressed, face feels tighter and skin much softer and smoother.
It's going to be sooooo difficult to wait 5 days before slapping the acid back on!
< addictive personality >.

WeesaD · 05/04/2012 00:54

Thanks Missfoodie.
I'm away at the moment, but they should be there waiting for me when I get back!

lubeybooby · 05/04/2012 05:53

ok - still waiting for my GA. This is killing me I so need this sizzling in my life.

Also just to go the whole full on sheep hog (BAAAAA)

where do I find SA? and what oil should I get and where from?

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 05/04/2012 09:10

Just did my second peel....Ouch!!

Really stingy when the neutraliser went on. I had to run around the upstairs to distract myself from the itchy feelingBlush

Skin looks the same, a bit red. I've put coconut oil on to soothe my skin a bit. Hopefully it will improve.

Overall I think my skin is a lot better. Have been using the OCM as well and find that whilst I'm still getting a few spots, they aren't lasting long. Skin feels smoother as well. Still have 11's but I don't think anything short of an iron or Botox would fix them!

missmakesstuff · 05/04/2012 11:03

I did my first peel on Monday, with SA and LActic Acid, 20% - It felt tighter at first, and the next day it was clear that basically everything in my pores was coming out quicker and easier, (TMI) if I ran a nail across the blackheads they were literally popping out, which was satisfying...however, my skin now looks awful!

Pores are huge, massive new spots, looks blotchy etc. I have been ill with Tonsillitus, really ill for four days, no sleep etc, so I guess it could be that, but I just wonder about trying it again - I only left it a 1.5 mins or so, if I tried 2, or 3?

Theres no peeling either, pretty much can't tell I've done it.

My skin has taken a lot of punishment over the years, I reckon I could go to three - from what I have been reading 4 days ish between would be ok.

I want results goddammit!

LtheWife · 05/04/2012 12:39

Sorry to hear you've been ill missmakes. I didn't see huge results after the first peel either, it did help reduce inflammation in the spots I already had but yes, a small crop of new ones appeared within a few days of that first peel. The difference for me is that the new spots that did appear we're much easier to treat and disappeared much quicker than the spots I had before treatment.

It's quite common for a new skin care routine to cause a breakout in congested skin though, just like facials etc bring all the underlying invisible problems to the surface in one big clear out. For me it was about the end of week two that I saw a real improvement in my skin. I'm now on to maintenance treatments and can count on one hand the amount of spots I've had since the end of week two.

There shouldn't be a noticeable peeling effect with any of the at home chemical peels though, it's not like the peeling you get with sunburn, it's just speeding up the skins natural shedding process. At most you might notice a bit of flakiness similar to dry skin a couple of days after application but in my experience a single exfoliation gets rid of it. I didn't get that until after peel number three though. Even with the full on deep peels that are only available in a medical setting you don't really get a peeling effect, you get an angry red chemical burn that scabs over!

cocolepew · 05/04/2012 13:38

I have bought the S A peel because of you lot. If my face falls off you're all for it.

MissFoodie · 05/04/2012 14:47

lol
i'm going to do SA 10% v2 when I get home, might even leave on for 5 mins.....

cybbo · 05/04/2012 14:59

My face def feels better. Might not look that different yet (altho more even tone I woudl say)

Feels like I've had a 'lift' of some description. Think my Night cream helping too

MissFoodie · 05/04/2012 17:41

am sitting here with it on............stinging like hell.......counting down to 5 mins..........

ggirltwin2pinot · 05/04/2012 19:30

missfoodie- have you sizzled away and melted?

MissFoodie · 05/04/2012 20:15

almost....had to rinse with cold water, not tepid......
applied 2 aloe vera/water based serums then a gel/cream....
looks the same so far.......
?????

missmakesstuff · 05/04/2012 22:36

Thanks for that Lthewife I will stop being so impatient...have had bad skin for 20 years, I guess a few more weeks waiting won't hurt!

I have had one major spot on my jawline that has appeared, but they are always bad there - was it you upthread that said the Mirena coil helped your skin? Cause I have had mine a year and its only just now settling down, weight gain, bad skin the lot, hoping it will improve over time.

Anyway, haing said all that, I'e just done it again for 2 mins, and did it for a couple of mins on my chest earlier, and it looks great - my face is a bit blotchy, hoping it will settle down, will leae well alone and try not to keep looking in the mirror!

blobtobetter · 06/04/2012 06:58

I had no change to my blackheads and blocked pores after try 1 - will try again today and see if anything changes!

Still hopeful.

Wonder if it would be worth getting some of those pore strips??

Thought that after a peel they might get more out.

savy57 · 06/04/2012 10:18

im going to do my second peel tonight not seen any change in my skin/face at all if anything i think my pores look darker im using the GA 30% i rushed to buy this as soon as i seen OP but im thinking the SA would have been a better choice for me
ive got quiet bad skin spot wise and black heads would SA work better at clearing this if so can i still buy 30% of this or should i get a lower % any advice would be appreciated

missmakesstuff · 06/04/2012 10:26

I got a lower savy, I think it s stronger, it's alcohol based. Try searching forever young on ebay, they were very quick and reasonable price (around £8 and have lots of info sheets with their stuff, I got the 15% SA, I thnk they said to start with that. Your skin sounds like mine.

Another thing I found that is great is Queen Helene mint julep mask - it's from the states, on ebay, a massive tube for £5 - sorts out my pores etc in no time, only lasts a little while, but great to use once a week or so.

After my second one my skin does look a little brighter today, will give it another 4/5 days and do another one, hoping it will improve.

I think my chest does look lots better though.

cocolepew · 06/04/2012 10:29

I did it last night for a minute Confused is this right? It said to do that on the leaflet? Not much happened.

missmakesstuff · 06/04/2012 10:41

Nothing major happened here either, first time. I did 2 mins last night (so 4 days after (impatient!) and it does seem better today.

cybbo · 06/04/2012 10:43

2 mins coco. thats what i did anyway. Will be doing 3 mins tomorrow

cocolepew · 06/04/2012 10:45

Righto, I'll do 2 minutes tonight. Tomorrow I''ll look like me, but airbrushed.

SeasonOfTheWitch · 06/04/2012 11:28

update from me (the OP), have now used GA 30% 4 times - most recent was last sunday for 6 mins.

i'm still so impressed with the stuff. i saw an immediate effect with skin clarity and fine lines but have only seen a real change to my pores recently. i've always had open pores whereas some of the usual ones on my nose are now tiny and not at all noticeable .

i wish i could capture the difference properly in a photo to show you disbelievers Grin. altho i think i generally look miles better, it's hard to see the detailed changes on a photo.

on the downside, i've had a several spots (all in one place on my jaw, weirdly) but i think is more likely down to changing my ocm oil/not washing it off well enough.

next (and last peel of the course) due over the weekend. i'll then use the 10% night cream for maintenance and count down the days til my next course.

am now wondering whether to do the 50% GA next time rather than trying the SA as i've got on so well with the GA.

LtheWife · 06/04/2012 11:59

Nope, I can't do hormonal contraception missmakes, turns me into a depressed homicidal bitch. I'm the one with 15 years of cystic acne who tried SA as a last ditch attempt before reconsidering roaccutane. I've tried years of antibiotics, prescription topical treatments, the contraceptive pills that are supposed to help acne (until I couldn't bare the side effects anymore). For me SA has worked so much better than any of those, so it's worth sticking it out and seeing if it works for you too. I still get the occassional hormonal spot, but no more than one at a time and they go within a day or two. Previously I'd have loads and they'd still be healing when a new crop appeared the following month.

cocolepew · 06/04/2012 12:07

Do you do it for a week going up a minute a day? Then how long before you do it again?

cybbo · 06/04/2012 12:45

nah do it once a week (or evry 3 days if you're the OP), going up a minute a time. You really would look like the singing dectective if you did it every day

SeasonOfTheWitch · 06/04/2012 13:02

i have actually been v well behaved cyb - the shortest gap has been 5 days Halo
