*sounds klaxon* 30% GA peel shizzle that you can do at home

SeasonOfTheWitch · 20/03/2012 08:40

thought i ought to do a public service and announce it properly as hardly anyone seems to know you can buy this stuff to use at home - and it works out sooo much cheaper than having it done at a salon even tho it's the exact same stuff.

i've only used it once so far (for 3 mins) but have been properly amazed by the results - as i posted on another thread, my 11s have reduced by 50% [holy grail] and my skin generally looks brighter and more even.

you do it weekly, building up the time over 6 weeks and then have a break.

the magic goo is here: www.bravuralondon.com/glycolic-acid-30.html

don't forget to get the neutraliser (apparently just bicarb but maybe has crushed fairies' castles in it too Hmm so your choice) and use sun block in the day.

anyone a veteran of the stuff and care to share your results?

p.s. i don't work for bravura and i'm a MN regular recently name-changed to separate my S&B chat with my over-sharing on other threads.

Done it once only but GA night cream every night except night of THE PEEL, so I think that's helping. It must be doing something because the cream stings when it goes on. Grin

After peel I left for half and hour and then put on some facial oil.

I hardly got any stinging after 2 mins so might do 3.5 on Friday

Have you done photos?

cybbo · 03/04/2012 21:53

No, no photoos. But I will know. And I hope I wont go red and ridiculous cos my skin was looking good thanks to hardcore bedtime regime

SixtyFootDoll · 03/04/2012 21:56

Wow, I have been using salycilyc acid peels for months. My skin is the best it hs ever been, acne scarring , wrinkles and spots all being held at bay.
Can't be arsed to read whole thread.

Hairytoes · 03/04/2012 22:26

Stung for about 20 secs, fizzed when I neutralised, still look the same.

My skin doesn't feel dry, tight or lifted. I will reserve judgeent until I have done the full 6 weeks, but Emperors new clothes springs to mind.

hiviolet · 03/04/2012 23:06

Not emperor's new clothes at all. Glycolic works but it's more of a cumulative effect and it won't perform miracles.

Tried mine for the first time tonight. Too impatient to patch test and figured if it all went wrong I'm a SAHM who could stay indoors for a couple of days Grin Skin feels immediately softer and smoother to the touch but doesn't look any different. Wasn't expecting it to.

MissFoodie · 03/04/2012 23:19

sixty what have you been using, how often and how long for?
am so tempted to do SA v2 after 5 days.....

Glad someone else suffered the burn. I slapped mine on at the weekend and it immediately started smarting. I panicked and ran up and down the hall screaming "I'm melting".

I daubed the neutraliser on early and almost cried as it sizzled. I was convinced I would have no skin left however I rinsed and revealed quite a nice, healthy glow, thank you. And no ill effects since. Pleased although still slightly traumatised.

cybbo · 04/04/2012 08:55

hiviolet I didnt do patch test either. Figured if ggirl could handle it so could I !

No major results here but skin soft and very smooth to touch afterwards

SeasonOfTheWitch · 04/04/2012 08:55

hairy Do you think i'd have used the klaxon for emperors new clothes, ffs? I have NEVER rated a skin product as being effective til this little acidic beauty.

maybe it doesn't work for everyone but there's no doubt at all that it's verging on miraculous for me some.

OP posts:
SeasonOfTheWitch · 04/04/2012 08:56

those of you who felt the burn - what did you wash your face with beforehand and how long did you leave it til you put the acid on?

OP posts:
cybbo · 04/04/2012 08:59

I washed my face not long before because..I couldnt be bothered to wait. But it wasnt unbearable it was just initially. The sizzling of the neutralizer seemed to up it .

Can someone recap whats the difference between SA and GA?

winefairy · 04/04/2012 09:09

I think I can account for my burn. Earlier in the day I had embalmed self in Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel and then slapped on an old Elemis sunblock which had long since seen it's expiry date and irritated the hell out of my usual bullet-proof skin.

Reading the small print afterwards, you are not meant to use the acid within a certain time of an enzyme peel. It didn't mention out of date sunblock but considering the results of my experiment, I'd say that was pretty much a no-no too. I tried to save my irritated skin with an acid peel. I hindsight that was foolhardy.

SeasonOfTheWitch · 04/04/2012 09:16

winefairy that is extreme 'skincare' fo' sho Grin

cyb afaik, SA is better at cleaning out all the old crap, otherwise does much the same thing. LtheWife said:

n the subject of Bravura peels, a quick shout out to all those suffering from blackheads, spots and acne etc. Try the salicylic acid peel. Glycolic acid is great at treating surface problems, but it's water soluble. So it will help congested skin in that it breaks down the dead skin that caps the pores that causes a sebum build up. But salicylic acid is lipid soluble so aswell as breaking down the dead skin 'cap' it can also penetrate through the oil and break down the nasty oily crap that's been trapped inside AND is anti inflammatory. And as a bonus it does all the other things that the glycolic peel does too.

As someone who's suffered acne for over 15 years and whose last hope was roaccutane from a dermatologist (which I wanted to avoid as it's nasty stuff) it's been truely life changing. My acne is gone, i only get a few blackheads in the most stubborn areas, my pores appear tighter, my skin looks more even and on the rare occassion when I do get a new spot they are now much smaller than they used to be and disappear overnight with normal spot creams. Once the last of the scars have faded I'll even be able face the world without foundation for the first time since childhood. I used a cheapy from eBay, but it's all the same stuff really.

OP posts:
Whitershadeofpale · 04/04/2012 09:34

Well my skin today doesn't look that different except for a few flaky patches, especially on existing spots.

I did have a very satisfying squeezing session of blackheads this morning on my nose and chin and got out much more than usual and they were the really dark yellow ones (which I was told by a beauty therapist means they're old) so I'm taking that to me that it's softened up all the crap.

I'm looking forward to seeimg how the next few weeks go.

sansucre · 04/04/2012 10:18

Ok, so last night I did my second GA peel.

I left it on for 5 minutes as the 3 minutes I did last week didn't seem to have much effect. After I neutralised and washed off the GA, I slapped on a load of my really love facial oil from Santa Maria Novella :o

This morning my skin feels noticably smoother and softer, far more so than last week. However, blackheads still seem to be there and more noticable although my pores are now much much smaller and as such, I've decided to try the Salicylic acid, even more so now I've read SeasonOfTheWitch's post - thanks btw, any advice as to which one to buy?

MissFoodie · 04/04/2012 10:45

am waiting for SA feedback too as I bought the 10%, have used once, will do 2nd one tomorrow or friday I think (will be 5-6 days)

I didnt see any difference after the 1st, but I think it takes longer and is more cumulative....? I had a bit of peeling round nose yesterday but that's it, no difference to blackheads/pores at all

SeasonOfTheWitch · 04/04/2012 11:12

no idea about which SA to go for sorry. i'd start with the 10% i reckon.

i'm worried that i'll find SA drying so i'm interested to know what you all think of it first.

when posting results shall we mention which we're using ie GA or SA - as it's getting a bit confusing now.

jen127 · 04/04/2012 11:47

Ok I have done peel 2 and my skin is feeling tighter but no mad peeling ! Thank god!
My second peel stung like billy o! But I had cleansed and toned my face an hour before with Liz Earle. So top tip - don't do that !
My clarisonic arrived yesterday so with combination of both and a lot of hope I will be gorgeous and 10 years younger by the summer.

Whitershadeofpale · 04/04/2012 11:54

Anybody using the hyaluronic acid serum?

WeesaD · 04/04/2012 14:27

So what/ how am I supposed to prepare my skin before a peel? What shouldn't I do/use?

MissFoodie · 04/04/2012 14:29

cleanse skin as normal, do not put anything on it
wait half an hour
apply peel
neutralize (if using GA) or rinse off with water (if using SA)
I then applied a water based serum (Aesop) and a face oil (you don't have to use their HA serum)

Stangirl · 04/04/2012 20:33

Just done my first GA peel. 2mins. Didn't hurt. Now excitedly waiting to see results!

CutMyEggs · 04/04/2012 20:57

Just done mandelic acid peel!! Went for this one as my big issue is pigmentation and chloasma patches, although I'm not too attached to the acne scars and wrinkles either.
Face feels but stingy, think I missed the double neutralise advice unthread so am now worrying that I missed a few bits with the neutraliser!!
So far look clean and shiny and not sure what else.

Pinkglow · 04/04/2012 21:11

Just done mandelic acid peel!!

I ordered that one today! I am very prone to spots on my chin and jawline so thought this one woud be best for me, hopefully mine will arrive soon
