So I have got some coconut oil for my hair. How do I use it as its thick?
Do I need to heat it up then rub it into my hair? Surely if I use it as it is I wont be able to rub it in properly..

It has a really low melting point - either give it a blast with a hairdryer or put some in your hands, let it melt and put it in.

HorsesDogsNails · 14/03/2012 08:13

Scrape a small amount with your thumbnail, put it on your palm then rub your hands together. The oil will melt with your body temperature then you can rub in into your hair. Be careful not to use too much though cos it will make your hair greasy!

Hth's

Brilliant thanks.

Op can I ask where you got the coconut oil from? None of the shops near me seem to sell it and I want to try it out...

ItsallGreektome · 14/03/2012 09:01

I ordered it from Amazon. I live in Greece and the packaged it really well and got her in a week so very impressed.
This is the one I got.

I put some on my hair last week, and its still amazingly soft. I've been massaging it on my face too and all my spots have gone. It's oily, but not heavy like other oils, and so cheap!

MissFoodie · 14/03/2012 10:12

one of the best things you can put on your face!

hazchem · 14/03/2012 10:26

It's lovely for the body too! My skins lovely and soft!

ItsallGreektome · 14/03/2012 10:29

Do I use it like a moisturiser or do I use this for the oil cleansing method?

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 14/03/2012 10:35

both, here you go: bit.ly/x6kxVx

catinboots · 14/03/2012 10:38

Superdrug - it's less than £2

MistyMountainHop · 14/03/2012 10:39

oooh coconut oil

my favouritest thing in the whole world atm ;)

it melts at body temperature so just put some in your hands and it melts in seconds

i use it on my face and body after a shower/bath, and on my hair overnight as a conditioning treatment, and even a bit on my eyebrows to groom them

its amazing

BareBums · 14/03/2012 10:49

Do you leave it in the hair or wash it out?

Grin
MissFoodie · 14/03/2012 10:50

on hair, leave overnight and shampoo in the morning
tbh it's better to get something virgin organic, you can buy online from Amazon or Fushi (or any other others I linked to above in my review), the one in Superdrug/Boots is fine for hair, but I wouldn't use it on my skin

valiumredhead · 14/03/2012 11:11

Waitrose - in the baby section, it's only a couple of quid bare

MistyMountainHop · 14/03/2012 14:24

yeah what missfoodie said

i got a big tub from the asian/world foods aisle in tesco, was less that £2 i think. and have been using it on my hair and skin.

BareBums · 15/03/2012 13:55

Ah I've been looking in the wrong section!
Thanks ladies Thanks

MistyMountainHop · 15/03/2012 14:13

let us know how you get on :)

returnvisit · 15/03/2012 14:25

MissFoodie, is it not too greasy on your face?

MistyMountainHop · 15/03/2012 14:27

no, return it sinks in very quickly and doesn;t look greasy at all imo

ItsallGreektome · 15/03/2012 14:36

Well I did my hair last night, slathered it all over and wrapped my hair and went to bed. After a lovely shower this morning my hair does feel softer. I shall see what happens over the next month of doing this.

I am doing it more for dandruff as I was told it was a good cure for that and also its great for hair so I am thinking win win situation.

Used it also for OCM which I was already doing but with Olive Oil. I prefer this so far as it was not so heavy feeling on my face...:)

MissFoodie · 15/03/2012 15:36

it's brilliant for OCM, as a moisturiser I prefer it at night, also, you can do face mask with it, then wipe off excess with rosewater and cotton wool after half hour or so.
As an overnight treatment I like the one with rose oil in it www.yumetcetera.com/2011/05/coconut-oil-ultimate-cleanser.html

I use coconoil, they're a great supplier of very pure organic virgin coconut oil.

MissFoodie · 15/03/2012 15:52

it's nice, it's one of the ones i tried, but I prefer fushi (it's more nutty) and it's half the price

Lulumama · 15/03/2012 16:03

I bought some from the health food shop recently... I've used it on my hair for ages, but not the pure organic one, which I've only just discovered... i use it as a moisturiser too

I am also doing oil cleansing, but on the oil cleansing thread, some posters were saying coconut oil would actually block pores?
