Kate and Her Maj both looking lovely in Leicester today methinks.

Critiques of Kate's outfits (today and on the rest of the tour) welcomed Smile

She is often seen around my neighborhood. I have never seen her, but I do know many people who have. They all say that their first thought is "that is a very skinny woman" or, "what marvellous clothes on that skinny woman" and the next thought is "It is the Duchess!"

Chrestomanci · 08/03/2012 19:32

If you look at the last pictures of Kate alongside Ed Milliband's wife, Justine looks great and slim in the dress, but Kate is a whole new level of thin and looks very frail by ocmparison. I agree with Lauriefairycake - she is a role model so should put on a wee bit and looked so gorgeous when she was slim but athletic a few years ago...

JasperJohns · 08/03/2012 19:34

I think she has a gorgeous figure.

She looks very elegant, but agree, eyeliner overload.

Like mother, like daughter Wink

Poor girl though, she has to dress a certain way. She can't crack open the Gareth Pugh, can she!

But anyone who thinks she is scarily thin is suffering from size creep. She is on the slim size of normal and I think she looks lovely. Yes, flat chested, but that's the way she's built.

If you think inches of body fat is ideal, then you are deluded.

otchayaniye · 08/03/2012 19:57

I'd have her at a bmi of 17-18. A shade underweight but not 'scarily thin'. Look at her leg muscles!

Not inches. Christ, if you even hinted in a roundabout way that someone with a bmi of 25-26 was straying into the 'chunky' area and unattractive, you'd be shot down.

She is on the slim side, but not the 'keeling over, lanugo, nails peeling off area'

But the fat police say she has to eat more cake for their daughter's sake.' I'm personally a fan of tits and bums (not a fan of lots of body fat) and her figure sn't something I would wish for but I do think she looks lovely and not scary.

We live in a world where an M&S size 8 is a 12-14

otchayaniye · 08/03/2012 20:04

Daughters' (getting light headed, must eat some cake!)

JasperJohns · 08/03/2012 20:09

She's tall and lean and toned. So yes, this to me, is a gorgeous figure.

She looks the picture of health to me too.

To me she doesn't look the picture of health as she is so thin. She wears such heavy make up that it ages her.

otchayaniye · 08/03/2012 20:30

Smallwhitecat

That's a supercilious and patronising thing to say, if directed at me.

I think about a lot more than bmi. I'm currently on maternity leave, but am news journalist like proper wars and financial crises for a broadsheet and have a degree in Russian from Oxford. But yes, my head is full of mince, all I think about is handbags, body fat and how to please other body dysmorphic women....

I also have two daughters and am sensitive to issues around body image. I disagree that Kate's figure is in a worrying state, just as I would disagree that a 12-14 figure was always unattractive.

I have been thinner, I've been bigger. But I find that not being able to find anything in M&S that will fit very odd.

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 08/03/2012 20:33

God, all these threads on Kate at the moment are so depressing.

I know she signed up to a life of scrutiny, and I know we saw it all before with Diana, but still...

I think she looks fantastic. And totally agree re size-creep - you can't deny it.

I know fat is a feminist issue, but there are many different body shapes in the world (although far, far fewer in prehistoric times when everyone only ate what they needed a moved a great deal more) and her slim build is just as valid as any of them.

JasperJohns · 08/03/2012 20:37

I think that was possibly directed at me otchayaiye for having the temerity to like a slim person's figure.

This is a 'twaddle' type thread where we can be vacuous and opine about a person in the public eye, their clothes, figure, & eyeliner Grin.

I see nothing wrong in admiring someone's figure, I am certainly not admiring KM as a whole.

PerryCombover · 08/03/2012 21:00

Nice for a royal. Must be hard to get your head around it all without offending the doyennes of this nest fer instance.
I'd like to see her look more edgy (whatever that Means) but I guess that will come with age and confidence

daenerysstormborn · 08/03/2012 21:02

dh met kate at the lucien freud private view. said she is very thin and her ankles look like they are in danger of snapping.

drywhiteplease · 08/03/2012 21:11

True she is very thin but I actually think she isn't a bad role model in some ways. Iwould much rather my daughter carried herself with Kate's elegance and good manners, discretion and friendly demeanour than some hideous winging, rude, high maintenance, permanently pissed ladette .< gets her union jack out and waves it>

mippy · 08/03/2012 21:36

otchayaiye, are you Pandora Braithwaite? Wink

I don't normally pay attention to anything Royal but I did experience severe suit envy. No idea where my bosom would go (probably have to go in the suitcase) but it is lovely.

mathanxiety · 09/03/2012 05:02

Swimming against the tide here, but I like her eyeliner and I think it suits her. Her eyes would be lost without it. I think she probably dressed plainly and formally and in a dark colour so as not to upstage HM the Q. She still managed to look elegant.

The only question I have though is whether this means peplum style jackets are coming back -- I have seen a few just in the last few weeks. If so, drat.

saffronwblue · 09/03/2012 05:15

The Queen looks gorgeous as always. I quite like this look on Kate but with her long legs a skirt this length is just a bit short for getting in and out of transport and bending down to talk to children.
Size creep is a depressing concept - does it mean that if I think Kate is too think then I must be too fat?

saffronwblue · 09/03/2012 05:15

thin

Bonsoir · 09/03/2012 09:13

Peplums started appearing in AW11. DD has a peplum on her puffa jacket and it's very pretty!

GreenEyedMunster · 09/03/2012 11:17

Kate is looking more and more like a middle aged woman.
Surely she can look stylish AND look her age at the same time.
If her mum is lucky she'll get all her cast offs because they will suit her.

Kate = YAWN.
