Fillers, botox etc have you had any, if not why not?

I had my lips done recently, it was cheap and effective and v painful, but no pain no gain right Hmm.
Genuine question, why don't more people have it done? Are you all happy with the way you look? I can't imagine not having something that i thought needed changing.

I'm getting saggy jowls, anyone know if filler can help with that? I love botox or my frown but I need more advice on fillers really.

Doozie · 06/03/2012 22:47

Does anybody know how much these things cost?

Sleepwhenidie · 06/03/2012 22:47

Probably in her natural state perception but honestly, not with work, I have seen her up close in real life and she looks frozen and v odd.

bristolcities · 06/03/2012 22:49

But what if you are generally happy but there is something that you look at and notice every time you look in the mirror? My philtrum is really long, well i think so any way. Its not about age. I hope I will look back at some point and think 'actually i was really attractive' but at the moment i know there are things that can be improved on. I first had my lips done before a wedding. There seemed little point in buying a new out fit and trying to look nice if my sodding philtrum was getting in the way.

OP posts:
EllenParsons · 06/03/2012 22:52

What actually is a philtrum?

bristolcities · 06/03/2012 22:53

But actually im not generally happy, I know im attractive but there is a whole list of things i would love to get done. Boobs, teeth, lips, forehead. I don't want to look like Jordan, i want to look like a better version of me. I am surprised /impressed by how many of you don't want to change something.I thought everyone would given the chance.

deliciousdevilwoman · 06/03/2012 22:55

AlOuise-insofar as I am aware, in some cases, Botox can be used on jowls-and to tighten up the neck area. Filler is more for skin depressions/adding volume

bristolcities · 06/03/2012 22:55

The philtrum is the is the line between the nose and mouth, it is one of the first things notice on people Hmm

OP posts:
sandyboots · 06/03/2012 22:56

eh what's a philtrum?? can't say I've ever worried about the length of mine Grin
bristolcities surely part of maturity is self acceptance and that includes accepting we're not physically perfect but that we're fine as we are. Some of us see ageing as just part of life and lines show some of that life we have lived Confused

joanofarchitrave · 06/03/2012 22:56

How much of a pension/savings do you have bristolcities?

sandyboots · 06/03/2012 22:57

sorry x post - really? surely you notice their expression/eyes/smile/lipstick or whatever
this thread is a bit sad when did people all get so utterly vain

ameliagrey · 06/03/2012 22:59

slebs are under huge pressure to look young. The shiny faces are most likely make up etc not fillers or Botox.

I don't know why there are so many negative comments from people who have no experience of it anyway!

And very ageist comments too- saying will we stop at 50 or 60. I began to have fillers at 55. You don't stop caring how you look post 50. My mum is 84 and given the money she says she would have her lips done!

deliciousdevilwoman · 06/03/2012 23:00

Exactly what Amelia said

bristolcities · 06/03/2012 23:02

I'm talking about my insecurities and no one else's imperfections. It's an obvious projection. On other people I tend to think imperfections make faces beautiful but I have to look at mine everyday. I have no savings but I work really hard and am incredibly driven, i have direction, don't smoke or drink so i think i can allow my self one luxury. Besides feeling attractive makes me feel more confident and therefor more driven.

OP posts:
sandyboots · 06/03/2012 23:02

er no the point was if you start at 25 and carry on post say 60 you will inevitably look odd (as you will have a mis-matched face)

amelia each to their own but I hope that by 84 I'd rather treat myself to a lovely holiday or day out etc than have my lips enlarged

sandyboots · 06/03/2012 23:07

bristol have you tried focussing on the things you like about your face instead? save a fortune and you can treat yourself to something which really is a treat Wink I'm sure you're beautiful and don't need to worry. FWIW I can honestly say I've never noticed these lines on anyone, and I'm sure most other people wouldn't have either. None of us is perfect, there's no such thing.

bristolcities · 06/03/2012 23:07

I don't plan on it progressing in to a full scale bottox obsession. Its one part of my face that really bothers me. Maybe my lips already look odd on my face?

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 06/03/2012 23:10

Thanks sandy that was my point exactly, not that you should stop at 50 or 60 but when do you step back and think, hang on, I need more and more stuff done, it's costing more and more money and time and I am looking increasingly strange (not sure you would recognise the last yourself if you've been doing it for ages), so maybe it's time to stop?

I'm not criticising anyone for having these things done, I can completely understand and respect your motivation, but I am talking about my obsevations and concerns about doing it, in response to OP's question, "why aren't more people having it done?"...it's because it's not all positive!

GreenEyesAndHam · 06/03/2012 23:17

Never say never and all that, but I'm 99% certain that I will never have Botox. I had Bells Palsy 10 years ago and have no wish to experience facial paralysis again, even mild, self inflicted paralysis.

I'll do whatever non invasive stuff I can afford though Grin

suzikettles · 06/03/2012 23:26

I have never noticed the appearance of someone's philtrum. Honestly, I can hand on heart say that it's not a feature (is it even really a feature as such?!?!) that I register on the human face.

suzikettles · 06/03/2012 23:29

Ok, I googled and long philtrum is a "thing", but people with it look completely normal to me.

QuickLookBusy · 06/03/2012 23:37

I think people might be so vehemently against it as you see everyday photos/film stars etc who look ridiculous.

As someone else said if Hollywood stars can afford the best, how come they usually end up looking so weird. Julie is only in her early 40s and she looks so strange. I'm sure there are people who have it who look ok but I woulnt take the risk.
The only people I know who have had Botox, fillets etc look so very strange I have to check myself as I just want to lo

QuickLookBusy · 06/03/2012 23:39

Sorry.

I want to look at them and ask them what the hell they've done to themselves.

As I said I'm sure not everyone looks weird but I would just like to meet a few.

QuickLookBusy · 06/03/2012 23:41

Julie? Whose she? I meant kylie. I phone problems!

ameliagrey · 07/03/2012 07:31

I do think the slebs/ hollywood thing is a red herring here.

There is no logical connection between "they have access/money to have the best therefore they must look good with these procedures."- otherwise it's proof that these procedures make you look odd.

Doesn't follow.

As I said earlier, lots of slebs have very fragile egos, they are under pressure from their PRs, and just looking at the tragic deaths of so many singers and actors through drugs etc it is clear that many have problems with self image.

I don't think you can extrapolate from the way they use fillers etc that they are bad products per se- it's how you use them that matters.

I also think that so many of you are unable to appreciate anyone else's viewpoint.

To the person who said- rather patronsisingly IMO that when she gets to 84 she'd rather have a nice holiday or something than have her lips done- well, how do you know how you will think at 84? My mum's health is not so good that she can take holidays. She looks at her face every day in the mirror- and would like to have the lips she had at 20. Wat's wrong with that?
