Eeeek - never been to a rugby game at Twicks before & now I'm off to Eng v Barbarians which I gather is a biggy (??)

I assume I should wear (flattering!) jeans & (nice!) jumper with Converse shoes, something along those lines?

Not special tickets but am going with someone I want to impress Wink

Thanks in advance.

pretty much bang on...don't wear heels as you will be jumping up and down all the time/ there isn't alot of leg room between the seats. I would wear a sexy fine knit jumper with a cami underneath, jacket, scarf. Wear lip stain rather than gloss/lipstick (hair whips around wildly as you aren't particularly sheltered at twicks!). Or, my choice, if you can get a snug fitting rugby top he will be very impressed.Wink

Have lots of fun and enjoy the show of thigh...

dingdong3 · 05/03/2012 21:26

I thought this was going to be another zoo thread and got rather excited I have to confess!

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 21:30

zoo thread?! Intregued...

dingdong3 · 05/03/2012 21:33

here

drywhiteplease · 05/03/2012 21:39

It's a great match! Dh says in May and v excited....we are BIG rugby house!
Layers.converse are good if weather good but you will be on concrete which is cold so if you suffer from cold feet think about that.put some thermal insoles in them?think Zara or Kate....I would have a pashmina worn as a scarf so if you're cold you can use that or roll it up in bag if warm.
You are so lucky...it's amazing!
(take sml pair binoculars so you can watch the (legs) play close up! Hip flask.

drywhiteplease · 05/03/2012 21:40

I loved the zoo thread......don't care if it's a wind up,sooooooo funny....a pith helmet!!!

drywhiteplease · 05/03/2012 21:50

Yes he will be impressed by hip flask.....brandy or single malt( yuck!!!)

Keep all comments about players physiques to yourself...you don't want him to feel inadequate.

Learn words ( but not actions!) to Sweet Charriots

Don't cheer "go England" in a girly way!

Do you know who tBarbarians are ? (sorry if you do!)

Here is a line ds and dh say will impress him "that was a great try, but not as great as Gareth Edward's try for the Barbars in 1973 against the AllBlacks"........we dare you!!!!!'

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 21:59

Grin zoo thread...I was expecting something along the lines of 'how do I make myself look like a girl from zoo magazine...!'

I am big on rugby (from the shire so I am) - real men play rugby (dh is from manchester and therefore supports the pansies' game).

He will indeed enjoy a hip flask (though I would put baileys in mine as hate the hard stuff!). Just enjoy it - like I said, enjoy the thighs. And the blood, mud and sweat. Frickin yum!!!!

drywhiteplease · 05/03/2012 22:19

Steady martin!!!!

GossipMonger · 05/03/2012 22:21

Wear a hat.

And gloves.

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 22:27

hehe...I really do love rugbyplayers!

How can I not with the likes ofben foden and charlie hodgson.

Don't even get me started on Martin Johnson, though he is no more he is still my number 1!

Flood and wilkinson types are much too pretty for me...

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 22:48

he is nice!! looks young though...I like um mid 30's plus...

Apologies op...what is your opinion on these dishy offerings Grin?

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 22:49

ps - i know ben and charlie are a bit younger than 35 but I will let them off (and they are still older than me Blush)

drywhiteplease · 05/03/2012 22:56

Dan Carter?

My dh met m Johnson and was photographed next to him.Dh is 6ft.....looked tiny next to MJ ! He is colossal but not as big as Martin Bayfield who I stood next to and was two of me wide nd two of me high!!!not normal !!!!!

Took my son and 10 friends to see Carneigie play last yr and at the end they wanted to go to pitch side to get autographs.i had to accompany them of course (dh followed shaking head) I stood right next to a kiwi player and just couldn't resist poking his bicep! Unbelievable!!!!

mrsm we should have a chat !

drywhiteplease · 05/03/2012 23:03

If you want to go down that route

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 23:11

My best friends' fella is english gentry (or similar - I'm just a council estate girl - all totally above me) but I went to a dinner as their guest and was sat on MJ's table.....loooooovvved him!

DH just rolls his eyes when we watch the rugby...

dexter73 · 06/03/2012 08:40

Should be a good match - we watched Barbarians v Australia last November. Jeans, jumper, coat is a pretty standard Twickenham outfit.

anniewoo · 06/03/2012 17:28

Last time i was in Twickenham Princess Eugenie was sitting in the seat behind me. Very ordinary

FaginsFumblingFingers · 06/03/2012 20:04

The wind can whip around Twickers so definitely take something warm, and some areas of the stadium can feel chilly even on warm days.

newmnname · 07/03/2012 11:40

Wow, thanks for all the replies! I've got it sorted, thankyou for the link to the top & for all other advice of layers. Will do.

Phwoar to the google page Grin

Note to self: BINOCULARS! Ha ha! But NO commenting on the players bodies. Will learn words - ta.

Hip-flask will have to have squash or similar in as I can't drink alcohol Sad Guy I'm going with does know this & he says I don't need to get drunk to snog him anyway. Grin

Thermal leggings under your jeans if it is even slightly chilly.

The last match I went to at twickenham was in May a couple of years ago and it was fucking freezing. I had thermals on, jeans, boots, etc and was still a bit chilly.
There is nowhere warm to go, you are outside all day and sitting on plastic seats, there is nothing snug about it at all.

Brilliant day out, but not if you are cold!

drywhiteplease · 08/03/2012 22:21

Wow newname let us know how it goes.he sounds nice!

Sonotkylie · 09/03/2012 11:03

Take the Saturday newspaper ... broadsheet for preference,. Those seats get cold! If you get Times, you can share it. Depends whether you think that will impress! Less girly than a cushion but same effect. Have fun!

newmnname · 09/03/2012 19:14

Sorry - one more question if you lovely people can help.

Bags?!

Handbag - yay or nay? Or no bag? Or any other bag come to think of it?!

Thanks for helping me out so far....Smile
