Well done notyummy, I was about to start a new one myself!

anniemac - DD only got the idea of having her ears pierced because two of her best friends had them pierced last July, within a couple of weeks of one another. More and more of them seem to have had them done every week!

Personally, I feel that it is a battle not worth fighting - she'll have them pierced in the end and why not put the power in her hands and let her decide when she feels ready to get them done? I was totally relaxed about it (and DP pretended to be, under pain of death Grin - because his natural patriarchal instincts came to the fore as, interestingly, did those of the DSSs) and she decided to have them pierced during the Christmas holidays.

Hopefully · 24/02/2012 19:04

Fab title!

I'm not sure how I will ever argue with the DCs regarding piercings etc as I have a couple of tattoos and have had various piercings over the years. I got my first tattoo when I was just 16 Shock. It was basically my only teenage rebellion though.

NY what kind of weights are you up to? I want to buy a new set (only have 1.5 and 2.5 dumbbells), but not sure what kind of weight range to go for. I'm thinking 2, 3 and 4kg would work. I was using the 2.5s for pretty much everything, but DH has been shredding with me for a while now and has well and truly commandeered them.

Hopefully · 24/02/2012 19:05

Bonsoir your dd sounds awesome. How old is she?

Bonsoir · 24/02/2012 19:09

17 7. She has two much older brothers, DSS1 (nearly 17) and DSS2 (15 in August) and that definitely makes a difference to her perspective on life! Though her brothers are very funny whenever they think she is asserting her femininity too early - they look all disapproving, and though they daren't say anything to me, they do talk to DP about it. He is under very strict instructions to agree with me not them though I have absolutely no illusions about his natural inclinations Grin

MidnightinMoscow · 24/02/2012 19:19

Hello, marking my place.

Thanks NY

Russianred · 24/02/2012 19:34

Thanks NY!

DH occasionally talks me through the discussion he'll have with DD's first boyfriend. Shes's 17 months.

Am babysitting for our neighbours and have wine and lots of trashy tv to watch without any scorn from DH. Caught up on Homeland last night - absolutely loved it. I wanted to be Claire Danes c. My So-Called Life, so particularly enjoyed it!

Bonsoir · 24/02/2012 19:36

LOL Russianred. All men have some kind of inner Saudi Arabian when it comes to their daughters/sisters.

I know that was totally unPC and not allowed on MN and will probably get deleted Blush

Russianred · 24/02/2012 19:43

Yes, perhaps a little inappropriate Grin.

pickledsiblings · 24/02/2012 19:47

Thanks for the new thread NY.

Annie, I think I saw the spotty Vero Moda dress you bought for your sister - v. pretty. Did you get the blue with rust coloured spots? Great colour that one.

Red, thought you were supposed to be ill Confused. I watched 'My So Called Life' as an adult, bet you watched it as a teen. I loved Jared Leto it!

Bonsoir, I'm with your DP on the ear-piercing, luckily DD has never mentioned it.

MarshaBrady · 24/02/2012 19:51

Haha I love the practical thread title. Very good Grin. Thanks NY.

I have been Aveda'd and I am now newly blonde again.

Tried on MiH in Liberty this time with Lanvin flats. Finally! the two together. And they look good. So just have to decide which colour Lanvin.

I have so many colourful jeans I should probably go for a neutral-ish colour rather than very bright.

This week has been great, poor dh has played the house role, I and have run all over between meetings and shops. Turning up to meetings with Chanel bags and what not. (well tiny make up ones.) Has been good. Dh is absolutely shattered by the experience. A hint of what my last 6 years have been like, perhaps!

Bonsoir can't really comment on earrings, little boys only, but love your Spring shopping.

Russianred · 24/02/2012 19:52

I am Pickled - this is my respite! DH offered to come instead, but didn't think the children would appreciate it and didn't want to let my neighbours down. I was a teen and I was obsessed with Jared Leto it.

Bonsoir · 24/02/2012 20:03

Marsha - your spring shopping sounds pretty fab too Smile.

My next ladies' lunch (because that is what I am becoming - a Lady who Lunches Blush) is in a restaurant that cannot accommodate Marni or Sergio Rossi or even bleeding Zara. Very annoying. It is in the 20th arrondissement and I will need to go to Merci and buy a whole new outfit that costs a fortune, looks as if it were bought it in a charity shop and I will never, ever wear again Angry. Or maybe I could just get the oldest, most mistmatched items out of my wardrobe and wear them with some outrageous heels?

Anyway, I have made it very clear to the self-appointed Chair of the Luncheon Committee that our venue after next must accommodate my newest Spring purchases Grin

Hopefully · 24/02/2012 20:12

I can just imagine what DH would be like if we had a DD. Although the older brothers might be like it on his behalf, a la Bonsoir's DSSs.

Oh, to be a lady who lunches. I am trying to juggle childcare so I can attend a 45 minute business meeting at some stage in the next two weeks. Thank heaven for useful parents and a willing DH. On that note, I have decided to keep the Pure Collection shirt. I need something to wear to the business meeting, right? Grin

I am spending the evening cruising online for accessories. Quite fancy a couple of Stella and Dot bracelets, but a bit exxy for little bits and bobs. Really fancy a Chan Luu, but that really is out of budget for a bracelet. I always used to wear a bit of a stack of bangles and bracelets, and I've decided I'd quite
I've to start again. Safer for me than necklaces and earrings too, with my grabby children!

Emo76 · 24/02/2012 20:15

hi all, thanks for the new thread ny

my me and em dress arrived in navy and I LOVE it. Wore to work today!

going to the rugby tomorrow, Bloss remind me of your stylish outfit please if you can!

notyummy · 24/02/2012 20:31

Red- I loved My So Called Life too! I was too old for it really but caught reruns in C4 when I was single mid twenties girl about town and was addicted! Love the fact she can play quite plain or quite beautiful- she has one of those faces. Anna Paquin in True Blood (and The Piano!) reminds me of her.

Ah yes- fathers and daughters... My dad played it very cool with me and it worked (I don't mean like he didn't live me- but he didn't let me wind him up as a teenager.) DH has more of the 'Medieval Dad' thing going on. No ear piercing here until at least 13 I suspect. I'm alright with that as I had to wait until 16- just wore clip ons! As much as anything, dd is a very physical and slightly clumsy child and a ripped earlobe would be a distinct possibility until she has got to grips with her body a bit better. She has already asked though, so I am sure it will happen at some point.

Marking place.

I forgot to buy my Friday night bottle of prosecco. Im in a right grump about it!

blossoming · 24/02/2012 20:41

emo, are you off to Twickenham? Lucky thing!
I'm going to Wales Italy in a fortnight.
Last year I wore my Barbour Cameron, belted, with skinnies, boots, cashmere beret, and a red scarf natch. Will you be wearing red Wink?

Bonsoir · 24/02/2012 20:41

Commiserations on the lack of prosecco Sad

scarfaholic · 24/02/2012 20:45

Jared Leto, swoon!

Ollie, there should be a prosecco delivery hotline.

My little DD already asks me when she can wear makeup, no doubt she will want her ears pierced soon. My parents were extremely strict so I want to allow them a little more leeway (I'll change my tune when they are teenagers, I'm sure). DH has already mentioned strict Catholic secondary schools for them more than once and I don't think he was joking!

I've just sold my LKB dress for £45 less than I paid for it but at least it won't annoy me every time I look in the wardrobe. Another reason for online shopping, at least you can always return or exchange.

MarshaBrady · 24/02/2012 20:46

Bad luck Ollie! Can MrOllie pick one up?

Just read the last thread and thanks Red for lovely compliment. It helps to see all the links on here, builds a style for each of us I think.

Dauphin will try and find links. The Céline ones are not on Selfridges and Liberty doesn't show P Lim. Very annoying!

They are all very simple with soft leather and strong colours. I'll see if I can find something....

Bonsoir · 24/02/2012 20:49

Lots of the little girls at DD's school used to wear varnish on their toe nails with their summer sandals (there is a strict plain navy-grey-white dress code, but shoes are not included). It looked very sweet and encouraged them to wash their feet and cut their toenails which is no bad thing. But now school have banned nail varnish Sad.

OllieinOrange · 24/02/2012 20:53

Mr Ollie is firmly ensconsed on the sofa with a glass of chardonnay. Consoling myself with some mousse au chocolat but its not the same (and I wonder why the weight isnt falling off...)

blossoming · 24/02/2012 20:57

On yer bike ollie Grin?
