bought some a few weeks ago as i had a bit of a dry scalp and was recommended coconut oil (think it was actually someone on here)

well not only has it completely sorted my dry scalp out, my hair looks the best its ever done. its mega shiny and feels absolutely gorgeous, really silky. it also seems to feel thicker, as if each hair strand is "fatter" somehow iyswim. although i am not sure i am just imagining that bit!

all i have been doing is putting it on my scalp and lengths of my hair the night before i am due to wash my hair (i wash it every 2 days first thing) then tying it into a ponytail

the downside is i look like i have chip fat on my head when i have got it on but it washes out easily in the morning

the stuff i used was an Indian brand from tesco, think its got castor oil in too.

Silly question, but does it smell and taste of coconut? I like the sound of it for the hair, but am not keen on the smell and absolutely hate the taste.

INSTRRRRRRRRUCTIONS ladies please. How much to put on ? And dont your pillows get very stained and greasy ? And is it okay for dry, coloured, tendency to frizz hair ?

And why must it be extra bloody virgin ???

MistyMountainHop · 26/03/2012 11:55

the solid stuff i bought doesn't smell of anything but the oil i mentioned in my OP does, but i think its got other stuff added to it

and i haven't tasted it, i daren't Blush

It tastes yummy, its coconutty but not. if you have ever use the blocks of creamed coconut for cooking it tastes like the bit of oil on the end of the block [unsurprisingly!] its a very mild taste.

Its a mild smell too.

You dont need loads when you put it in your hair, I used about 2-3 level teaspoons, it melts in your hand, then comb it through, I have loads of hair and that was enough so should be more than enough for someone with 'normal' hair.

I read that a teaspoonful before meals helps you feel fuller, well i'd say thats true, just dont go over board like I did!

Ive been using it on my hands as a hand cream and they are so soft.

doingthehokeycokey it would be brilliant for your hair type IMO.

I think it must be the pure stuff because of the method of production, the one I got is n0ot heat treated in anyway as that takes away some of its goodness, also my one is food grade so it can be ingested too.

This is the one ive got

I might try some then for the hair, mine isn't in bad condition but has a tendency to go fluffy and flyaway. I'll leave my skin out of the equation because I have made a few changes to my skincare routine this week and it feels/looks better than it has for years, but that's another thread.
