Right. i Have to tell you all about coconut hair oil and how Utterly Fab it has made my hair

MistyMountainHop · 22/02/2012 10:40

bought some a few weeks ago as i had a bit of a dry scalp and was recommended coconut oil (think it was actually someone on here)

well not only has it completely sorted my dry scalp out, my hair looks the best its ever done. its mega shiny and feels absolutely gorgeous, really silky. it also seems to feel thicker, as if each hair strand is "fatter" somehow iyswim. although i am not sure i am just imagining that bit!

all i have been doing is putting it on my scalp and lengths of my hair the night before i am due to wash my hair (i wash it every 2 days first thing) then tying it into a ponytail

the downside is i look like i have chip fat on my head when i have got it on but it washes out easily in the morning

the stuff i used was an Indian brand from tesco, think its got castor oil in too.

So do you treat this like olive oil and apply the shampoo to dry hair in the morning?
I've got out of the habit now, but I had a phase of using it in place of butter and oil generally. I liked it, but no one else in the family did so I stopped.
But there's a coconut diet which claims all sorts of things about it here.
I'm gettin some!

MistyMountainHop · 24/02/2012 15:26

shotgun i just wash my hair as normal, ie wet my hair fully then shampoo and condition

the stuff i use isn't the stuff linked to above. but i am sure it would work the same.

A size 12 is ginormous? What a sad world we live in.

Coconut oil is great. I use it on my hair and scalp and to cook with. It's apparently good if you cut yourself too - I read that if you bung it on the wound straight away it heals quicker. Never tested it myself.

alwaysrunninginheels · 24/02/2012 17:11

Gutted- rushed to tesco where the staff had never heard of the stuff! Where else would have it???

mrsmartin · 24/02/2012 17:19

always running - superdrug and boots will definately have it.

yellow - I said it is to me - I wouldn't criticise anyone else for it but to me it has been a big shock to my body and a large adjustment in the way I dress etc - rapid weight gain has had a negative and permanant affect on my body (as it has left a whole new batch of stretch marks down my legs and on my breasts) and it is also deeply unhealthy to put on so much weight so quickly. Being my weight at my height makes me 'technically' overweight - it just happens that for me I am a size 12 at that weight. Not sad - actually not good for me long-term. Wink

mrsmartin · 24/02/2012 17:23

gaunyersel - no, 5ft4 but I weigh nearly 12st (currently on first week of a diet and have lost nearly a stone though so I may be back in an 8 for late summer

yellowraincoat · 24/02/2012 17:26

By saying a size 12 is ginormous, you are implicitly criticising other women. If you meant that at your current weight you are overweight, why not just say that?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to be healthy or wanting to look nice - to say a size 12 is ginormous is simply wrong.

mrsmartin · 24/02/2012 17:45

Ahem:

'I, MRSMARTIN, would like to apologise to any fellow MN's who were offended by my comment...I think you are all lovely no matter what your size. For me, adjusting to a large weight gain has been difficult and my comments may be seen as an overreaction. However, I would like to say that to me it has been rather soul-destroying as it is the last visible evidence to the outside world of my breakdown last year. To me it is a really big deal but I hope I haven't offended others and I am deeply sorry if I have.

alwaysrunninginheels · 24/02/2012 18:17

Well mrsmartin i hope that if your aim is to get back to a size 8 that you do. Everyone feels differently about weight and feels happy at different sizes! I can understand how if it is related to another issue it can be more important to you!! Good luck with your goal.....and keep us all up to date with your vast info on beauty products!!

MadameOvary · 24/02/2012 18:24

Not only is coconut oil fab but it lasts years without going rancid.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 24/02/2012 18:48

mrsmartin · 24/02/2012 20:00

JoyceDivision · 24/02/2012 20:21

I found the jar at Tescos AND ITS EVEN CHEAPER IN THE WORLD FOOD AISLE AT 99P FOR A BOTTLE! EXACTLY THE SAME STUFF 100% COCONUT OIL! Grin (yes, I am that tight!)

I am sat with it on my head now, do I leave it on for a couple of hours or overnight? Do I just rinse it out or shampoo it out?

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 25/02/2012 07:03

I'm in NZ and have had to order it online as neither local supermarket has it. I suspect the Asian supermarkets would but I can't be bothered hauling arse.

returnvisit · 25/02/2012 07:21

I have used it on my hair for ages and it is fab. Can get a big tub for £1-2 from Asian grocers if u have one nearby. Put it on your hair. Leave overnight fofoot at least an hour of two , then wash off. May take quite a few washes and rinses to get it out completely but if u r in the shower and your hair squeaks it's out . What I mean is if u rub your hair through your fingers and it's squeaks it's washed out properly. I still apply conditioner after for double results !

RobinSparkles · 25/02/2012 07:25

Damn, I saw some in tesco the other day when I was looking for avocado oil. I wished I had bought it now!

Do you still use conditioner when you wash your hair?

jinxediam · 25/02/2012 07:35

Holland and Barratt do a big tub of organic virgin oil for about a tenner? I sneak it into all home cooking and noticed my skin is better since using it I food. Not sued it yet on my hair but feel inspired to do so now! I have bought it off eBay in the past too. It is cholesterol free and is currently being trialed on Alzheimer's sufferers for neural connections so def worth a shot.

jinxediam · 25/02/2012 07:37

*tried it on my haire

jinxediam · 25/02/2012 07:37

*hair.... iPad.....meh

Horopu · 25/02/2012 08:25

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks I am in the middle of nowhere also in NZ and I bought a jar a few weeks ago from a shop. Sadly I have no idea which one. Blush.
I am now off to slather my hair in it (assuming I can find it in the cupboard).

RobinSparkles · 25/02/2012 09:23

They have it in Tesco, in the cooking oils aisle. It's about £6.50 Smile.
