bought some a few weeks ago as i had a bit of a dry scalp and was recommended coconut oil (think it was actually someone on here)

well not only has it completely sorted my dry scalp out, my hair looks the best its ever done. its mega shiny and feels absolutely gorgeous, really silky. it also seems to feel thicker, as if each hair strand is "fatter" somehow iyswim. although i am not sure i am just imagining that bit!

all i have been doing is putting it on my scalp and lengths of my hair the night before i am due to wash my hair (i wash it every 2 days first thing) then tying it into a ponytail

the downside is i look like i have chip fat on my head when i have got it on but it washes out easily in the morning

the stuff i used was an Indian brand from tesco, think its got castor oil in too.

I wonder if it would give my hair more body? My hair is fine and very straight and I hate how flat it looks sometimes. Would coconut oil weigh it down?

MistyMountainHop · 25/02/2012 09:58

robin my hair seems like its got more body since using it, as it looks thicker. i don't think it would weigh it down as long as you washed it off properly

and yes you still use conditioner, well i do anyway!

and lol @ joyce 's dh - yes its not very glamourous is it sat there all oily :o its worth it though i promise!

I like it on toast, and it's yummy on a jacket spud instead of butter. I have more energy and my skin looks better. I have tried it on my hair as well but I have a short crop so it's not too bad leaving it on overnight - definitely made it feel thicker and sort of bouncier.

jan2011 · 25/02/2012 13:37

i also love it and use it for everything - face skin hair bath lol its fab i love the way it melts too in your hands and smells delish

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 25/02/2012 18:55

Hmm, the last thing I need is thicker hair... Hmm

Horopu - if you remember which shop, let me know. :)

JoyceDivision · 25/02/2012 19:12

I used this last night on my hair with the 99p bottle from the world food aisle in tesco and its very good!

I have fine hair just past my ears in layers that I'm trying to grow into a bob, as I swim I have very dry ens of hair even when I use a masque. The oil has made my hair, even the crispy ends really soft and a lot silkier, so it des seem very nourishing! There is a very slight increase in thickness, but nly very slight,m however as it's the first time I've used it this might be more visisble over time. Wuld def recommend it so far!

SardineQueen · 25/02/2012 19:37

Interesting. Thanks for the thread!

TheCompanyofWolefs · 25/02/2012 19:53

Well, I'm sat here with oily hair, I wonder how many of us there are? Grin

JoyceDivision · 25/02/2012 19:58

when I washed it out this morning at first it didn't feel like it was washing out and I had small panic in the shower, but a normal shampoo and condition sorted it out, but just thought I'd mention that at first the oil doesn't feel like it's shifted off your hair! Just in case anyone has to get ready for work and finds they've gt agreasy head a lot longer than they thought they should have and start to panic (like I did!)

FakeFurCoatAndThermalKnickers · 25/02/2012 19:59

Grin Yup, oily hair, oily face (oil cleansing method). I look delightful.

JoyceDivision · 25/02/2012 20:11

Would it work with NittyGritty combing for DD?

The OTC headlice treatments seem to work on a suffocation process and the oil helps detatched the eggs.
DD has bum length hair.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 26/02/2012 18:35

Well, I coconutted my hair last night - went to bed with a towel on my pillow and slicked head. Lovely.
But today someone I'd never met before said I had lovely hair (we were talking about pampering and I mentioned the oil, so it wasn't entirely out of the blue Grin).
I shampooed straight onto the oil, and it came off really easily, so it's obviously a lot less heavy than olive oil. Thanks, think I'll keep this up!

MistyMountainHop · 26/02/2012 18:43

very glad to hear of another satisfied customer shotgun :o

Have great hopes here. Scalp slathered in the stuff....waiting for fabulous hair....but as kids have vomit bug amid the endless washing and mopping it may be there for days.......

chocolateshoes · 26/02/2012 19:40

i can't find any to order online - have tried Tescos, Boots, Superdrug - nada! Am keen to give it a go.....help!

missmartha · 26/02/2012 19:55

I nearly bought some from my local Asian grocers. They had a big tub for £2.10 and some in what looked like a Worcester sauce bottle for £1.20.

This worried me as the stuff in the tub looked pretty solid and I wondered how the oil in the bottle came out. Would I have to put it in a pan of hot water to melt it?

I should have asked Mr. Madhav, but chickened out.

Next week perhaps.

teenyweenytadpole · 26/02/2012 20:44

The solid stuff will just melt in your hands. Don't be tempted to put it in the microwave. Just use a teaspoon or something to dig a bit out of the jar and then gently melt it in your hands, body heat is enough to soften it.

teenyweenytadpole · 26/02/2012 20:46

I bought mine on amazon, have tried the fushi brand which is lovely but expensive, arrived within a couple of days, have also got coconoil which is nice but not quite as nice as the fushi. Have also seen it in holland and barratt.

Scarlettno1 · 27/02/2012 11:09

I bought Amargan oil for my daughter's dry scalp, i used it twice a day and also the shine and protect on her skin. It worked a treat it took about a month, it contains the natural Argan I would recommend.

savy57 · 27/02/2012 11:30

has this coconut oil helped anybody else with a dry scalp? ive suffered with dry scalp for years ive tried everything i spend about £6 a week on shampoo that smells like tar :( but the min i stop using it it comes back?
is off to tesco to get some :)

Scarlettno1 · 27/02/2012 12:06

Savy57- I tried it On my daughter hair didn't work for her, the Amargan shampoo and oil did work and still does, she also uses the Amargan shine and protect spray all over her body on her psoriasis after a shower as it comes with a pump and is easy to use and smells lovely. When she goes out she puts it in her handbag and uses it on her hands We bought ours in our hair salon but it is sold on the net, I found this site which is doing fab offers www.amarganoil.com. It's not cheap but it lasts long and more importantly it works!

Pepa · 27/02/2012 14:10

Ok ladies did this last night and this morning hair is shiny and bouncy - all good. Now the question is....when to do this again?? Weekly? Daily??

Any advice?
