New bowl of crisps, tuck in Ruby!

I am thrilled at this Pixi lust. Another of their things wot I like is the cheek gel in natural. It doesn't stay on very long but while it does it's well pretty.

I felt a bit rubbish yesterday and spent much too long hunched over the computer looking at not very edifying things. Today is better. Have shredded, spot cleaned the stair carpet, written a letter to DD who will be at an outdoor pursuity place with school next week and am now going out to buy some fabric conditioner at Wilkos. When the mice are away the cat does rather boring things, it would seem Blush.

CV, when we went to Center Parcs in Holland, we drove to Amsterdam and parked at Ajax - free return train into the centre! They may do this from other stations too.
And if you are thinking of the Anne Frank House / museum, book ahead online - definitely worth it as the queues were horrendous!

Morning hags. My foul illness has now abated, and I feel perky and full of the joys of spring. And four pounds lighter.

Now then. I'm pondering night creams. I veer wildly between thinking 'stuff and nonsense, all a waste of money, stick some Astral on' and 'well... if it does make a difference, you get what you pay for, etc etc'. I have spotted a bargain boxed set of Elemis marine collagen unguents which is tempting me. I seem to remember it's a bit of a mumsnet staple.

What do you lot use/recommend/think?

wilbur · 12/04/2012 10:22

Love the Ice Age playmobil figures, Ruby. Was it a sort of Lindo Man experiment? I recall once trying to squash one of my Fisher Price people in my dad's vice - it was indestructable Grin. Am also wondering what you have for breakfast that lives in the freezer... pop tarts? Ice cream? Or was it frozen fruit for a healthy smoothie that they are always banging on about suggesting in women's magazines?

Am loving that I sound chilled and relaxed on MN - wonder if my family would beg to differ......

Herbs, how is it always you that catches these fab fould weight losing illnesses? Envy

Am loving the geography project on global warming - will it be available on youtube for family viewing, please? Smile

herbaceous · 12/04/2012 11:19

Don't worry BTM, I'll spring back up to what my body seems to think is my 'ideal weight' soon enough. Already this morning I've had a pain au raisin, and some rich tea biscuits.

wilbur · 12/04/2012 13:03

Herbs, I hate to say it (being very partial to pain au raisin myself) but I think Ruby's breakfast might be a smidge healthier than yours....

herbaceous · 12/04/2012 13:56

What, the fact that it has raisins in doesn't make it calorie-free?

I normally have health-giving muesli, fruit and yog, but the pain au raisin is my Thursday treat, picked up from our Dear Little Patisserie on the way back from taking DS to nursery.

Foul pestilence really does seem to have left me ravenous. Just had two poached eggs on toast for lunch, plus slice of ham, plus apple, and still starving.

CointreauVersial · 12/04/2012 23:46

Glad to hear you are on the mend and busy consuming the fridge contents Herbs.

Antwerp! Thanks for the tip, MrsS - I had forgotten about it, despite making a mental note a few years back to put it on my "to-visit" list. I have been to Bruges and Gent before (had a girly weekend in Gent with my mum Blush a couple of years back), so not bothered about missing them out entirely.

DD1 originally requested Brussels, but when pushed, could only give as a reason the fact that she liked mussels - well, they'll be just as tasty in Antwerp (as will witter beer, kip met appelmoes, chips with mayo, pancakes......mmmm....love Benelux food).

I have also been to Leuven before, but it has slightly uncomfortable associations, as the home town of an ex-BF. Nice place, though, a bit like Brussels, only smaller. Grin

Anyway, the holiday park is booked, so we're going!! Hoorah! BTM I will doubtless be picking your brains some more nearer the time about NL.

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/04/2012 06:05

I love Leuven. We used to live just down the road from there and it was our usual Saturday shopping haunt. I went back before Christmas (for the market) and discovered a whole shopping street that we hadn't found in the, err, five years we lived there. How was that?

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/04/2012 06:38

Have just realised that the DDs are off school for the next two weeks and have done nothing about holiday plans. Sad Will try and impose on our Swiss friends near Geneva for a few days, maybe, or take them back to Brussels for a day or so.

bigTillyMint · 13/04/2012 07:37

MrsS, poor old Glad is not going to be glad any more!

Sun forecast for today, so off to the beach with our friends. DS says he would like to mover to the IoW when he grows up. Infact, he is always planning to move to the countryside!

Glad is for the summer, BTM. This is for a few days to relieve the monotony of Paris in the school holidays. Hmm They can come in and meet me for lunch one day, which they enjoy. Oh the excitement - I can see the sneer from here.

bigTillyMint · 13/04/2012 18:58

Aaah! So I can be glad that Glad is glad after all!

We had a fantastic day today - it was gorgeous and sunny and we found a fab little beach....

I am pooped; I got up this morning at 5.30am to do a car boot sale. It was absolutely mobbed, and my table was stripped bare - very therapeutic selling all our tat, but hard work. My mum was selling alongside me, but she has a better class of tat and made three times what I did. Envy

It was chilly too - you must have had the monopoly on sun, BTM. I brought a flask of tea but didn't dare drink much, having spotted the toilets on the way in.....

bigTillyMint · 14/04/2012 18:48

Great that you got rid of all your old tat beautiful and useful items, CV. What are you planning to do with the winnings?

ruby, the IoW is great if you don't want to drive too far Smile

CointreauVersial · 14/04/2012 18:54

The winnings? Well, by the time I had given the DDs money for hot dogs, ice creams, donuts and multiple visits to the bouncy castle to keep them from killing each other, my winnings were somewhat depleted. Grin

bigTillyMint · 14/04/2012 19:01
Grin
wilbur · 14/04/2012 20:38

Well done on the car boot sale, CV, very satifying. I'm currently offloading old bikes and various toddler related items on ebay which is equally good. Esp when it feels like free money as the stuff has been sitting in the crawl space we call a loft for years.

I'd like to book a holiday too, but have been waiting to find out about my shifts for Olympic volunteering. Have just got them this week, but need to see if I can swap one or two as one is before the kids break up from school! Hopefully we can then book something for end of August, but we've already put a deposit on a campsite near Weymouth for Aug bank hol weekend, so will have to find maybe a ten day cheapy somewhere sunny. Have No Idea what I'm going to do with kids during Olympic volunteering. Will be schmoozing MIL and paying local teenager a fortune, I suspect.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 14/04/2012 21:05

Weymouth, wilbur? You will be a mere 5 mins from Strop Mansions, so please feel free to drop in and we will give you a guided tour and a cream tea :) Not to mention local info, should you want some. I took dd, ds and dd's friend to Weymouth yesterday and ds and I sloped around on the beach eating ice cream whilst dd and friend went shopping.

Had the meeting with dh's consultant surgeon late yesterday afternoon and things seemed v. positive. The long and the short of it is: they have caught the cancer very early and dh will, everyone hopes, be suitable for brachytherapy, which is a one-off radiation treatment. He has to have a scan under general anaesthetic to confirm this, but things are looking fairly positive under the circs. One can never be sure of anything, but all things considered, I reckon the outlook is good. Meeting with oncologist will hopefully be within the next fortnight.

S&B news: I can hugely recommend the Naked range of hair care stuff from Boots. Amazing. It has actually given me luvverly soft hair. I like.

I have also purchased these , which have also helped to cheer me up. They are v. v. comfortable and rather snazzy for a bumpkin, like wot I am.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 14/04/2012 21:07

I would just like to add that it was also the consultant surgeon who reckons that the outlook is good for dh and it was not just me having a positive flight of fancy :)
