I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

Looks lovely!

Honeydragon · 13/02/2012 09:15

I've been doing it a while now but do it so it's pretty much one length with nice feathered bits at the front as I don't like layers through my hair.

I also cut in my own straight fringe as well.

It can't be that bad as a few people asked which hairdresser I used as they like it.

Ironically I cut my own hair as I've always hated going to the hairdresser as it makes me feel mumsy and twee. Much prefer hack and go.

SouthernB · 13/02/2012 09:20

Have done it twice now - first time a bit more glam than the second time (last week) but not such a disaster that I needed to go to a hairdresser. Love it!

mrsalwaysawake · 13/02/2012 09:33

Errr, has this been moved to Style n Beauty?

OnlyANinja · 13/02/2012 09:38

Where was it before? It seems like a Style&Beauty thread to me...

MeltedChocolate · 13/02/2012 09:52

Corny I am sorry, were you unable to pick up the tone of my post? Let me try again...

I LOVE this cut. It works brilliantly. Shh OP! Don't tell everyone the secret :o

notveryinventive · 13/02/2012 09:55

melted I didnt either, but now you've posted again I get it now. Its difficult to put a tone on the written word. Well now I have the same cut as you so there Grin Though I always have had this cut, but now I dont have to pay for it.

MeltedChocolate · 13/02/2012 10:00

It is hard notvery. I read it back and thought Blush oops, I sound really rude! I put it down to the hour that I was posting!

Oh well, it's only a maximum of 608 women so hopefully not too many people will have it but shhhh, don't tell anyone else now :o

MeltedChocolate · 13/02/2012 10:04

When I put it in a ponytail and hold it up I do not cut it less that 20 cm away from the head, because then you really would be risking a mullet!

The length of my hair is not yet long enough to be cut with the rest of the hair though so I can't comment on what the length looks like afterwards.

TwoNoisyBoys · 13/02/2012 10:30

I've always been one for hacking away at my own hair, but this is the first time I've done the MN cut, and its FAB! Exactly what I ask for at the hairdressers, but now a lot cheaper Grin All I need now is for someone to instruct me on how to get cream, honey and caramel blonde highlights in it and I'll be a really happy bunny!

PenneyAnne · 13/02/2012 10:56

Did dd's hair last night with great trepidation-she's 14-and it turned out fab.Its amazing how well this works and is so quick.DD is really chuffed with it.We had made an appt.for her to have her layers/fringe trimmed on friday so no need now-will cancel the appt. >.

cornykabana · 13/02/2012 11:51

sorry melty Blush

MeltedChocolate · 13/02/2012 12:15

Not a problem Corny, I should watch my wording! The use of the word 'shit' probably gave the whole post the wrong tone. My fault :)

cornykabana · 13/02/2012 12:18

I think I had my arsey hat on as well though melty!

FoofFighter · 13/02/2012 12:48

Ok am all ready to do the back and I can't find my sodding scissors now Angry

If you were a pair of hairdressing scissors where would you hide??!

Chestnut99 · 13/02/2012 15:55

My aunt used to put all her permed 80s hair through a loo roll right on top of her head and then chop at the top of the tube with similar results (more bowlish than a ponytail right at the front). We thought she was bonkers but it did look okay. Not I could bring myself to try this new version though with that memory in mind!

jan2011 · 13/02/2012 17:40

is it better done wet if you have frizzy hair so its all the same length?
dh told me i am going to make a complete mess he is horrified - i now have a bet on in which if we think its nice/ok he buys me a cd i wanted

MeltedChocolate · 13/02/2012 17:51

Shock are people doing it with DRY hair? Surely not... Shock

TheScarlettPimpernel · 13/02/2012 17:53

I did mine dry...was that wrong?

My colleague IMMEDIATELY said "ooo oooo haircut!" Grin

SparkySparrow · 13/02/2012 17:54

I did mine dry! Although will be wetting it next time!

Have had lots of compliments today! :)

jan2011 · 13/02/2012 17:58

ok wet then and i think half the fun will be the excitement of drying it to see how it turned out lol. i think i will wait til after valentines though as we are going out tomorrow and don't want to have to wear a hat

FoofFighter · 13/02/2012 18:02

Always done mine while dried and straightened - always is so not necessary if you don't anyway I think

DonkeyTeapot · 13/02/2012 19:38

Tonight's the night. Now I'm just wondering whether to do it wet or dry. It will be easier to do it wet, I think, but harder to judge how much to cut off. Being curly, it'll end up shorter when it's dry. Right, going upstairs to start fiddling with pony tails :)

SparkySparrow · 13/02/2012 19:41

Cut off less than you think if you do it wet Donkey .
I have made that mistake with my fringe before. I had a very attractive piece of hair that stuck right up in the air and refused point blank to go flat. Confused

countessbabycham · 13/02/2012 20:03

Did it dry too.My DH keeps harping on about how nice it looks and how it suits me.
I feel quite special Grin
