Oh please help me. I have to go to fashion week and I'm a troglodite!

I'm a freelance writer and ex actor...(ten years since I last performed professionally) and I've been asked by a certain website to follow a journalist who is covering fashion week...and produce a video which will go on their site. I have to interview the journalist.

I'm SO far from my ideal weight/style and have no confidence in my looks any more.

I have been hiding behind a screen for ten years! What on earth do I wear? I will be appearing on the film and am reasonably happy with my face, makeup and hair but I have no decent clothes at all.

I live in skinny jeans, jumpers and boots! I'm a size 12 on top and a 14 on the bottom too so slimming outfits are best. I want CHEAP!

I'm 39 (dies a little bit) but think I probably look younger than that.

Please? I need a jacket too...and accessories. All I have are parkas and scruffy denim jackets! I'm not a sophisticated person..I like vintage styles...I'm more biker boot than high heels. But I do like nice things.

Er, I am the last person to give fashion advice as am curretly sitting here in maternity leggings and a muu muu but I couldn't leave you hanging.

Could you stalk someone's style to get ideas? This is what I'm doing vicariously until I give birth and obviously snap back to my pre-baby figure

Emmanuelle Alt has a fairly bikery/skinny jeans style.

The Sartorialist might also provide inspiration.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 31/01/2012 17:18

Get thee to Cos

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 31/01/2012 17:19

Love this coat

ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 17:21

She looks very cool project...I could deal with that. If I don't eat watch my food intake for the next 3 weeks I can probably be a 12 on the bottom and a 10 on the top....

What do I buy MissBee? What's in fashion?

OP posts:
MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 31/01/2012 17:28

Well Cos is a pretty safe bet. You will look cool - like you're not trying too hard IYKWIM? Spring trends are about pastels, florals (trousers), neon yellow, peplums. So can be a little tricky to pull off. But something simple - dark trousers and jacket with a print top or statement bag would be fine.

ProjectGainsborough · 31/01/2012 17:29

Obviously ignore the extreme twigletiness. She works for Vogue and is French. It is her job to be hungry.

ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 17:32

Ooh er! Pastels? Florals? I might look like my Mum in the 80s! All "nice blouse" and slacks!

I will have to be hungry too project at least for the next bleddy three weeks I will!

I like the not looking like I'm trying though MissBee that's what I need!

OP posts:
ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 17:36

Bee everything on Cos makes the model look like she lives in Soviet Russia! It's all so grey and black....and slate blue. They've shoved the odd neon yellow thing in there mind.

Otherwise it's all so BOXY looking!

What you need to do is scan through the net-a-porter website and recreate a 'look' from there cheaply.
I think something like this might work? You could do it cheaply with:

Black high quality leggins or skinny jeans and pointy courts with

grey blazer and pink vest

or this looks good, do it cheaply with
contrast lapel jacket and nude vest

ProjectGainsborough · 31/01/2012 17:47

This might be a good jacket for you. And it's Alexander Wang. And it's cheap.

SparkyTGD · 31/01/2012 17:49

Like Emmanuelle Alt style too, also like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=whowhatwear.com/website/admin/uploads/sp-charlotte-gainsbourg.jpg&imgrefurl=www.whowhatwear.com/website/full-article/style-spotlight-charlotte-gainsbourg/&h=622&w=628&sz=500&tbnid=_K_krEtHT-EdpM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=91&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dcharlotte%2Bgainsbourg%2Bstyle%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=charlotte+gainsbourg+style&docid=dHmVav7sQwRd-M&hl=en&sa=X&ei=VyQoT7KbIYGSOtOU4aoC&sqi=2&ved=0CCMQ9QEwAA&dur=175" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Charlotte Gainsbourg

Sunday Times style supplement is great for keeping up with trends IMO.

I'd be looking to wear/get a blazer of some kind, maybe silk top/blouse, this is lovely from Zara & 'tribal' trend or Zara blouse some maybe skinny trousers or nice cut trousers like these finished off with some cute boots here or here.

lovely jacket project ... < burning credit card emoticon >

ProjectGainsborough · 31/01/2012 18:11

It is nice, isn't it. This is all very dangerous as I have trained myself not to look at shops any more...

cutteduppear · 31/01/2012 18:18

Would this kind of thing be any good for you?
I know it's off the US site but I bought one very similar in rust brown from H&M yesterday.
With the wrapover top and flared skirt it gave me a figure I didn't know I had!

The model here is not a skinny one so it gives a good impression of what it would look like on a normal person.

ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 18:19

That is a lovely jacket project I like the grey one too....but isnt my bottom too large as a size 14 to wear blazer with leggings or sknnies? I'ts not huge...but you know...it's 14!

OP posts:
ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 18:20

I can't abide wearing that crossover style pear I always feel frumpy...I'm only 5.5" and feel like that cut makes me look bottom heavy as I have a small bust.

OP posts:
ProjectGainsborough · 31/01/2012 18:31

Ultimately, I think you have to suck it and see - I think theoutnet do free returns, although don't quote me.

But in theory a longer length jacket would cover the bum quite nicely, as would a loose blouse-y thing like sparkly's tribal top, or a looser James Perse type t-shirt.

www.net-a-porter.com/product/41087

The proportions on top would balance out the skinnies on the bottom. This is what I tell myself, anyway, as my weight collects around the bum...

cutteduppear · 31/01/2012 18:33

The one I got yesterday didn't have the crossover in actual fact, it has a wide scoop neck. So I was lying a bit, but they do have ones like that there.

I have a 34AA bust (beat that for flatness!)and size 12 bum and the scoop neck is v flattering.
I was astounded as I'd tried on 20 dresses before finding this...I also have a scary engagement (job interview) to go to and I've had lots of advice on here.

ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 18:37

I have a vintage dress...just thought of it. It's either late 70s or very early 80s...it has a very on trend print....small fans in reds and orange with a bit of black...it's off white and in perfect condition. Nice shape reachers to just above knee. I have had it stashed waiting for the right moment. What shoes would go with that? Jacket? Is off white too summery? It's only thin....might look totally buggerish or really good.

Jacket to go with dress www.oasis-stores.com/Collarless-Leather-Jacket/New-Arrivals/oasis/fcp-product/3830018401

ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 19:08

Nice! I could justify spending that because if I wear a dress I have already that's a saving. Shoes...?

OP posts:
ChasTittyBeltUp · 31/01/2012 19:21

Is it too young though? Vintage dress and leather jacket? I can't get away with black tights to cover my whiter than white legs...and though my legs are good...they are WHITE!
