has anyone had glycolic peel?

that's it really. I've booked an appointment to have a glycolic peel on Saturday and I am wondering what to expect.
I'm 32 and my skin is not great - some adult acne, big pores, fine lines, sensitive skin.
Will it make me look 10 years younger........? (a very hopeful emoticon)

I had a very mild one as part of an oxygen facial last week. It tingles for a while but shouldn't hurt if it is the right sort of stuff. My skin still looks much fresher - and so clear. a few people remarked that i looked well.

duende please feed back on this. I posted the same question a little while ago and got no responses, so I didn't make an appointment. Instead I followed another thread and bought some stuff for use at home, which I also haven't had the nerve to slap on yet. Am encouraged by mummy . LOL conference call - aren't they always fascinating?

forward I used an at home kit (30% GA I think) a few years ago over a period of about 6 months just before I got married. I had some acne and mild scarring, bizarrely from spots that never became spots IYKWIM.

I got compliments more or less immediately and although I used it for acne it was wonderful on my fine lines. My skin looks wonderful on my wedding pics.

I have just ordered some more actually, as 2 children and 4 years later my lines are much less fine. It should arrive today. I am quite excited.

Remember to use a good sunscreen each day afterwards though. I used a Clarins one but am trying Clinique Cityblock this time.

OK. Thanks kettle. I have four tubes of stuff and instructions that I'm going to stick to my mirror until I get in the groove. Must check whether one of the tubes contains sunscreen. Clearly time to dump the BB cream.

Right. Read all the tubes. One doesn't say how much GA it has in, but clearly, it is 'the one' of the set. There is another tube of cream which has 10% GA in it, which is twice daily moisturiser. With no sunscreen - which it reminds you to have. None of my moisturisers have sunscreen apart from an elderly glob of Clinique. Did you do any kind of patch test kettle?

i had this in teh past. a kit bought online - worked wonders but had to stay out of sunlight for a few weeks from my recollection

I cant remember doing a patch test for the weekly peel (30% or 50% GA). I did use a GA cleanser, 10% day cream and 15% night cream for a few weeks first after going to a skin clinic. I think that helped desensitise my skin rather than jumping straight to 30% peels.

I recall my face was a bit pink afterwards and I could feel it tingle but I think I only left it on for about a minute, maybe less. Then you use bicarb to stop the process as a neutraliser and then moisturise (not the GA one).

Thanks kettle. I think I'll use the 10% cream for a while, as suggested. I'm away with friends this weekend and meeting DD at University on Monday - I didn't want to turn up looking like Samantha Jones (SATC) and humiliate her.

OK. So I had the peel last Saturday. 30% glycolic peel. it was on for 30 seconds, not much longer. it burnt like hell! my skin reacted quite strongly to it, the therapist thought I was having an allergic reaction. My face was pink and blotchy the rest of the day, a bit red and swollen on Sunday, yesterday and today peeling like mad. a bit of a pain in the neck, as it's impossible to cover up with make up and I'm sitting in the office looking like a leper...
Anyway, the parts of my face where the peeling has stopped look smooth and bright :)
I ordered a home kit from bravura london recommended above and will use this I think.

ooof. Had you planned for that? So, with the allergic reaction is this more severe than would be expected? I mean, kettle did 30% at home and didn't mention face falling off. Is that it then? Do you have to wear strong spf as soon as your new skin is revealed?

Wow, you must have sensitive skin...on the bright side you'll have a lovely glow when the New layer of skin is revealed. Also, the more you do peels the more tolerant your skin becomes. I do combined glycolic 40% and salicylic I think It's 20%? At home.

yeah, I do have sensitive skin, but I didn't think it would react this much, so didn't plan for it, I was a bit annoyed they didn't mention I could still look a bit scary 2-3 days later, but maybe this is just me?
ForwardOcho, you have to wear high SPF afterwards, yes.

When I got home, my 2.5 year old DS took one look at me, went off to grab his doctor bag and said "mummy, we'll play the doctor now. I think you have chicken pox."

I am going for my first ever one on saturday! I am excited and I am anticipating pain. My skin is ultra not sensitive so shan't worry about that aspect.
Is the sunscreen really necessary even at this time of year?

Fridakahlo (love her by the way!), yes, I think it is. you will be exposing damaged/ new skin to sun rays, you don't want scars or sun damage...

It means the sites security certificate is not up to date which could mean either their anti-virus software is out of date or that there anti-virus software is provided b y someone who does not issue certificates. So there could be an increased risk of picking up a virus from the site.

hopefully duende's son will be able to help with that too.

My beatician refused to do a peel on my skin as it is quite sensitive...I have microdermabrasion which seems to do the trick.

those of you who've had the salon treatments, where do you go and what do you have?

what's the benefit of going to a salon? seems the home stuff is the same strength.
