Let's talk Boden.....what are we liking this Spring?

After a crummy couple of years I have to say I like a lot of the new collection. I have no idea as to the quality and whether that has improved. I am still waiting to see the reviews before I order.

So far I like- the Jersey Maxi Dress in three colourways.
The tan leather bag
Tan ballet pumps with the square toe
Cropped cashmere cardigans
Breton top
Tie front cardigans.
Maxi skirt
Casual jersey dress in navy.

I like the idea of the mariner jumper but the neckline is to high. I like a slash.
The jewellery isn't tempting me either.

So what are you tempted by?
Are you equally struck this time around?

Right - My parcel has arrived. And I like pretty much everything.
Roma dress is a lovely shape, thick fabric, nice cut. The colour isn't navy though - nearer purple.
The Mariner jumper is gorgeous. The neckline is a kind of cross between a crew and a bardot. It stands off your neck slightly and is not too high. I ordered the navy and the stripe to choose and I might keep them both. The length of the sleeves and the body is perfect for a shortarse me.
Disappointment was textured stitch jumper - heavy and lumpy.
I forgot I had ordered a palazzo top. I don't do tops very well, I mainly wear jumpers and tees so I was trying to get out my own box. The print is lovely and the fabric is good, but the shape doesn't fit me well - loose body and tight little sleeves - so that will go back.

I am going to see what the colour analysis reveals on Monday then decide what to keep.

SweetieDoesIt · 19/01/2012 10:57

My Boden order just arrived.

I went for the red (clutch) bag and red spot scarf. I am really pleased with both and will be keeping.

The bag is a really good everyday size, has a webbed longer strap so you can wear across body or on shoulder if you choose. The strap could do with being a tad longer for across body but I will make do. There is an inner divided pocket at the front and a good size zipped pocket at the back. The inside fabric is purple and cream spotted. The leather is quite hard but I imagine it will soften over time.

The scarf is lovely soft silky cotton material which drapes really well. It is a nice lighter weight for Spring with a trench coat or cardi. It is long enough to be wrapped around twice or left long and just knotted.

Hope this is comprehensive for those wanting a review.

gregssausageroll · 19/01/2012 14:20

Bah! The cricket jumpers have just arrived. Nice finish and good quality but they are short in length and also the v is very deep so I'd definitely need to wear something under it. No way would I get away without. Got to go back though as they are just too short in length for me. Shame as I had high hopes.

scarlet76 · 21/01/2012 12:48

Thanks Alltalkno - I find it hard to tell from the pictures. Think I will definitely order the bag and give it a go. I have more beiges and navy in my wardrobe so think the old gold will be better than the silver for me.

ameliagrey · 21/01/2012 13:00

I sent back the Chic jersey dress- funny seam under bust.

Sent back the petite linen trousers- too short.

Kept the bell sleeved cardi.

Waiting- forever- for size 8 in the Deauville jacket- 10 is okay but sleeves are long on me.

Suede loafers- waiting for exchange in colour- I have v narrow feet and these might fit- but the pair I had were oddly sized- one shoe was bigger than the other and the orange trim too bright.

alemci · 21/01/2012 13:07

let me know Amelia. My feet are narrow too.

I do like the stuff but am trying to not buy any clothes at present. the dresses are very nice.

Not many tops though and colour choices.

CointreauVersial · 21/01/2012 14:45

Parcel arrived today. The Photographer Jacket in slate was quite nice, so I'm probably keeping, but the Must Have Jumper was not the "must-have" it promised to be - very ordinary for the price, and strangely baggy around the waist.

I also ordered a Perfect Jersey dress from the Sale in plain blue - the fit was great, but I remembered why clingy jersey and plain fabrics don't go - you could practically read the label on my knickers, so that's going back too.

One out of three, oh well.

alemci · 21/01/2012 15:31

could you wear it with a slip Cointreau

CointreauVersial · 21/01/2012 16:10

A slip? Do people still wear such things?

I guess that would reduce the clingyness, but I'm not sure I really want to add another layer (hmmmmm.... ).

Say what you will about Boden prints - they certainly hide a few lumps and bumps.

FollowTheVan · 21/01/2012 16:34

All vile!

ameliagrey · 21/01/2012 16:39

Charming, I must say.

FollowTheVan · 21/01/2012 16:59

Oh come on, its like per una these days. You can while away a fair bit of time laughing at the horrid 'fun/colourful/playful' prints

alemci · 21/01/2012 17:03

i don't really go for the prints. do have the odd top but mainly by knitwear, plain t shirts etc.

Northernlurker · 21/01/2012 17:03

Don't buy the weekend tunic (If you were considering it) - it's horrid.

ameliagrey · 21/01/2012 18:03

Oh come on Follow if you have looked that much, you must have noticed that there are lots of things that are plain.

I have quite a few Boden items but not one is patterned.

I don't think they have much to inpsire, but at least they are not quite so cliched as say White Stuff or Fat Face- for ageing hippies in the main.

FollowTheVan · 21/01/2012 18:23

I used to qute like it, dont get me wrong. I have a nice jacket from Boden from about 3 years ago and a few dresses for DD. But it is gopping right now and has been for the last 2 or 3 seasons. Even the plain stuff is rank. Horrible, shapeless tops and weirdly cut dresses that scream 'maiden aunt' . Oh and how they love a stretch boot. Johnnie Boden must have a fetish for 'em Grin

Agree better than Fat Face, although I think White Stuff is not quite as batshit spinster as Boden ;-)

CointreauVersial · 22/01/2012 23:00

Wore my Photographer Jacket today - leurve it! I bought the Slate colour - rather like a grown-up denim jacket, but I can wear it with jeans without doing the double denim look. It will get a lot of use, I think, not a hint of batshit spinster. Wink

polyhymnia · 22/01/2012 23:47

norhternlurker agree the weekend tunic is absolutely horrible. In fact so far evrey single thing I ordered in the S/S preview has either been downright horrible or has not looked good on me! Anyone got the 'relaxed knitted tunic'? At least it is plain.

Having said that, two of the things that looked worst on me were plain navy (merino dress and 'casual jersy dress'). The latter looked more like an overall.

Oh well, lots of money going back on my card.

Rassy · 23/01/2012 13:20

polyhymnia I got the relaxed knitted tunic but sent it back as it clung to my stomach like a magnet. Was v disapointed Sad

dreamingofsun · 23/01/2012 13:41

has anyone had the fun jersey dress (pink version) or santori ones? I wish they would put reviews up as find them really useful. I have just returned a striped tshirt as reminded me of a pyjama top and the ruffle tshirts as material stood up too much on my shoulders and made me look big. the qual egg colour was light green, fairly dullish as it appears online.

Sonotkylie · 23/01/2012 17:08

So sorry Polyhymnia about the casual jersey dress. I feel guilty for adding to your disappointment as I raved about it on another thread. Lots of lovely cash on your card for something else ...

ameliagrey · 23/01/2012 17:27

Dreaming I have posted about the santorini dress in a couple of posts here...

it is very short- 33 inches- and I swapped it for a long length and I am only 5' 3. Long length comes up asa 36 inches- measuring centre back neckline to hem.

I like it but it's linen so creases easily

Why no reviews? is this a ploy to make everyone buy then keep- seems very odd.

LadyWord · 23/01/2012 18:15

Disappointed with the spring stuff. Apart from the kids' stuff which I do like (had a struggle to get my order in under my £100 limit I'd set myself!) I only liked these. Not sure if they would be deemed mumsy but I like that length in the summer - so giving them a go with special offer.

I normally find stuff i like in knitwear but it's all a bit messed- about-with and droopy- looking.

dreamingofsun · 23/01/2012 18:22

thanks amelia. sounds like it'll just about cover my knees...but measuring some of my other dresses has reminded me that i already have a few similar, but slightly longer ones.

polyhymnia · 23/01/2012 23:18

Please don't apologise, sonotkylie - I'm sure it does look good on you, just didn't suit me at all. I've had several summer jersey dresses from Boden in the last couple of seasons which have been fine so was very happy to try it - it was just one of those things that it didn't work out.
