Are you all nursing hangovers or just clearing up the post Christmas mess?

The best I have managed in the past was level 2. Haven't dared try level 3.

(respect herbs!)

Am sticking to level 1 for the moment now. And the day I manage to do a real push up, I'm rewarding myself with a giant plate of pasta and a large drink (because you're worth it etc......)

Grin
herbaceous · 06/01/2012 11:25

Oh, I never managed a real push-up. Jillian and her girl crushes are freaks.

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 06/01/2012 11:55

Ruby - fab! Have booked via your link (and bookmarked that site for future use) and have booked train tickets. Sorted!

I have just looked up the Shred on Amazon. Sounds like it would be wayyyy to tough for my rubbish old lady knees. And no jumping jacks for me, no sirree. Not after that skipping business

CointreauVersial · 06/01/2012 11:57

Back again, all glowing and relaxed after my bath with a frothy cappuchino, a glossy mag and Hughie Morgan......mmmmm......

Plenty of New Year fitness going on, it would seem. We'll all have buns of steel by the 20th.

My low-carbing took a battering last night, as I went to a friend's house for dinner - risotto and chocolate tart. She just came back from NY and got engaged - awww! Proper proposal, diamond ring, down on one knee at the top of a tall building. How come I didn't get that? It went something like "I suppose we should married at some point?" "I suppose we could...." "Well, as long as you do all the organising, you are on maternity leave, after all."

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 06/01/2012 12:03

"too" - sorry couldn't not correct myself.

Marriage proposals, hmm. I seem to remember dd wrecked dh's effort to do it "properly" by barging in front of him and announcing "I really need a poo NOW".

Ruby, I will bring an extra plastic bag, just in case. Grin

I have an S&B question. For several years, I have been quite happily using Jane Iredale mineral foundation (sheer powdery stuff in a compact) which has suited me fine, but is now making me look like a creased powdery old lady with giant pores. I would prefer to look less creased, powdery and pitted. Any suggestions for sheer, tinted moisturiser-type coverage, pref with a mineral suncreen? I have acne rosacea, which is why I ended up with the mineral stuff as I tend to react to just about anything else. Am fair-skinned.

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 06/01/2012 15:15

Ps: I reckon it is entirely pointless trying to buy the stuff by mail order and my options round here are very limited, so would appreciate any recommendations as to where to go to find these kinds of things in London. (You already know I'm a bumpkin...)

bigTillyMint · 06/01/2012 16:36

Herbs, respect!

Talking of marriage propsals, did you see that poor man who proposed at a baseball game in the USGrinSad DH proposed to me in the snow in the Alps on Christmas Day , but (before he uttered the words) I thought he was messing about and gave him a good dig and the verbalsBlushGrin

Huffy, I have rosy cheeks and I find the (rather expensive by my standards, but WTH) By Terry foundation from Space NK works. It's a liquid, not mineral powder, though. Space NK makeovers are fantastic - free and last an hour! They don't puush stuff at you and are happy to give you a list of what you tried for buying at a later date Wink

wilbur · 06/01/2012 17:32

Huffy - I have been using Clinique Almost Makeup for a while now and really like it. It's not as sheer coverage as it implies, so I sometimes cut it with a bit more moisturizer, but it does even out skin tone well. I have crazy dry skin and pretty sensitive, but I guess you'd have to give it a try and see if it suits you.

[off to Google baseball game proposal man]

wilbur · 06/01/2012 17:36

Balls! Just read the reviews of my makeup on the Clinique site and it's discontinued! Buggeration. Typical.

CointreauVersial · 06/01/2012 18:03

Huffy, I'm another mineral powder wearer. Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish; it has a grindy thing which produces powder when you twist. I don't think it's hugely "powdery", though; there is a slight sheen as long as you buff it on, so it might be worth a try.

Or perhaps I am deluded, and am in fact a powdery, creased old lady too.

CointreauVersial · 06/01/2012 18:06

And talking of proposals, did you see the train one on YouTube ? That guy made a serious effort.

ruby, I used to not wear foundation, but now I'm a Hag, I can't go out without it - far too frighteningSmile

bigTillyMint · 06/01/2012 18:31

Awww - love it, CV!

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 06/01/2012 20:50

Many thanks for all the suggestions, crepey friends. I am going to spend the afternoon of Friday the 20th on the search for the cosmetic cover-up suitable for my shrivelled, reddened fizzog. This is possibly a bit self-indulgent, but then it will be nearly my birthday. Grin

Oh no, I have just looked on the Space NK website and remembered my horrible weakness for Nuxe. The Huile Prodigieuse makes me go all wibbly. In a good way. I sniff it when I am sad and it makes me feel better.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/01/2012 20:54

I have some Bobbi Brown foundation. Apparently v light coverage - orange laydee deemed I did not need anything heavier. I have Funny Skin and have had no problems with it.

I tried Bare Escentuals mineral make up and looked like an aged crone. It settled into my wrinkles, accentuating them nicely, made my pores look enormous and gave me an all over powdery and crepey look. I told the orange lady in Selfridges what I thought and she snatched it back off me saying "Well most of my mature customers like you really like it." The beeyatch. Grin

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 06/01/2012 20:59

So which biiiiiiiiiiig department stores have the best ranges of stuff to try, bearing in mind my time will be a teensy bit limited?

motherinferior · 06/01/2012 21:04

I like Johnny Loulous.

Re proposals: DP tried really hard. Proposed in front of the Grand Menhir at Carnac on account of me being dippy-hippy type. Produced diamond ring and everything.

Only problems were...

It was pouring with rain
He had to get his rucksack off and fumble in it to get the ring out
I was distinctly wet, cross and my left welly-boot was leaking
Inferiorettes (then aged six and four) were milling around in the mud

And I just looked at him, went into Shock and said YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT AND HOW MUCH DID THAT THING COST??????

Blush

I am yet to make him the Happiest Man Alive Grin

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 06/01/2012 21:30

Awww. Did you make him take the ring back? Or is he still keeping it in reserve, just in case?

Is anyone going to take the plunge and book the BFI?

motherinferior · 06/01/2012 21:36

I wear the ring, in manner of constant fobbing-off the Actual Day. I had to get it resized. Twice. I am always convinced I have incredibly fat sausage-like fingers (which, compared to my mother and sister, I do) but in fact it was quite big for me.

Blackduck · 06/01/2012 22:34

I don't wear makeup, any, ever.

Dp said 'if you want to get married we will' (some 20 odd years ago). We didn't/haven't.

I think I may need to cancel 20th.... :)
