Are you all nursing hangovers or just clearing up the post Christmas mess?

OP posts:
HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 07/01/2012 00:09

LOL, Blackduck Grin I wear makeup about once every 3 months, if that. I do have drawers full of the stuff, though, because I, er, used to like to dream. The makeup just very rarely makes its way onto my face (and I haven't bought anything new for a long time and have given most of it to dd for experimental purposes). I'm afraid I look like a tranny when I'm wearing it. I also think the same thing about me in a dress. I am having another dreaming phase at the mo' where I am trying to force myself to believe that a smear of coloured cream might cover up the ravages of time/too much booze/general dissolute living etc.

I am an S&B fraud Grin

Huffy, Try to book a Space NK make-up job - it is sooooo relaxing and free Grin

No-one can cancel, BD!

I am happy to book if Wilbur isn't doing the honours this time Wink

Is everyone on this list coming? I hope so!

YES!!

Huffy - Nuxe is widely available in Paris, but not cheaper than the UK. Do you want me to bring you anything back? I have the creme Nirvanesque, which is luvverly, and also their tinted moisturiser. Have not tried the Huile Prodigieuse. I use Cetaphil (cheap as chips) as a cleanser and it has improved my skin enormously. Worth a try? You can get it in Boots.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/01/2012 08:37

DH proposed to me in Nigeria. He still maintains that he fell to his knees because he was drunk and said "Will you carry me?" Grin

Blimey, I don't blame you!

motherinferior · 07/01/2012 10:27

My neck is wrinkly Sad

Am giving a new Eucerin cream a whirl. Can second the recommendations for Cetaphil - I work almond oil into my skin first, then wash off with hot water and flannel. Triffic stuff.

wilbur · 07/01/2012 11:39

MI - didn't realise you were ENGAGED. I am going to refer to Mr. Inferior as your fiance from now on. [snorts happily]

I have an S&B confession to make. I can no longer afford my lovely NARS cream, which was utterly amazing and perfect for my dry, flaky, knackered by hormones skin. So I bought (on Chemist Direct - classy) a pot of L'Oreal Age Perfect night cream, not really reading the blurb. And then I found out it's for post-menopausal skin. However, it seems to be v good - thick but hasn't given me blackheads and is a hilarious but reassuring shade of old-lady pink. That, along with the the Caudalie facial oil that I bought in France last summer (MrsS, I may have to place an order with you for more at some point!) seems to have plumped my skin up quite nicely. Do you think it's ok for me to carry on using it? Or will Jane Fonda have put something in it that is Not Good for those still under 60? Any thoughts?

So the skin is not too bad, but I am cultivating both a gut and a goatee and will have to do something pronto or they will both get out of hand. Particularly since I have a wedding to go to in mid-Feb, for which dh bought me that coffee-coloured dress from Reiss that I was pondering in November. Dress is fab, but you will all be sharing in my accessories crisis come early Feb.

Yes to a session in Space NK for Huffy - they are very good, although you do have to keep repeating MY SKIN IS DRY as they are more used to dealing with youthful folk who are still struggling with an oily t-zone. I did once buy a concealer from them which proceeded to flake off like the bottom of one of those rivers you see in drought documentaries. Otherwise, everything I have from there is excellent. However, there isn't one very close to Waterloo - I suppose the nearest would be the one in Shelton St in Covent Gdn. If you can face a schlepp westwards, then Harvey Nichols is great for beauty and they have a Space NK shop inside the store. Maybe Selfridges does too as that's the other fabulous beauty hall, but you would have to check.

bigTillyMint · 07/01/2012 11:53

The girl who did my last Space NK make up was a consultant make-up person and she does make-up for TV/films, etc. She was very good and picked out stuff that would be good for my hormone-raddled dry skin.

I wish I had a wedding to go to - everyone I know is either married, or no intention of getting married. I shall have to wait until the DC's get married Sad MI, will 2012 be the year for you? Smile

wilbur · 07/01/2012 13:03

BigTilly - we are on the round of second weddings, or in this case a friend in her 40s who is marrying for the first time to a widower with 2 dcs. They are tremendously happy and it is a lovely story in many ways, but there's no such thing as simple romance any more, is there?

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 07/01/2012 17:06

Ooooh, MrsS, are you putting temptation in my way? Grin I am v. tempted by the idea of a Nuxe tinted moisturiser - is this the Teint Eclat Prodigieux? Hmmm, I shall have to track down somewhere I can try some. I am excited by the idea of a session in Space NK and as I have 3 hours' playtime, I might well make it to Harvey Nicks or Covent Gdn. Will do some research and see if I can get me a bit of relaxation courtesy of Space NK. I will also pick up some Cetaphil next time I'm in Boots. Am currently trialling Superdrug's own brand even cheaper than chips Simple-alike cleanser. So far, so good. It doesn't bring me out in a rash or make my skin feel tight, contains no parabens and costs about £1.50.

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 07/01/2012 17:08

And BTM, it's a yes from me for your suggested timings for bookings for the 20th. I hope to float in at 6pm looking all smooth and radiant. (In my dreams :-))

CointreauVersial · 07/01/2012 17:30

Book it, book it, book it!

Hopefully I won't spend 20 minutes wandering about like Nobby-No-Mates looking for you this time.

So am I right in thinking we have 8 deffo's and another 3 definitely maybe's? Shall I book for 11? - Space in Bar from 6 and then table in restaurant as per last time?

Blackduck · 07/01/2012 17:50

I have begun packing the house - 9 years of accummulated crap......I do recall dp saying last time 'next time I move house I'll be going out in a box'. I have reminded him of this. We are hoarders of the first order.....it is scary.

herbaceous · 07/01/2012 19:16

Yes and yes to BFI and timings. Though my arrival will depend on when DP gets back from work.

As for crepey skin coverage, I'm a fan of Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser, when I can afford it. But I've also just discovered the wonders of Garnier BB cream, which is a miracle product and about a tenner. Disguises all manner of horrors, but without actually being a foundation.

I'm searching for a tinted lip balm, or lip gloss with moisturising qualities, that is quite a strong red, non-sticky, and can be applied without looking. No luck so far...

Yay :)

motherinferior · 08/01/2012 12:53

I have steered clear of BB creams till now - we've had a big splash on them at work - but might experiment.

Wilbur, surely he's my feeongsay? Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/01/2012 12:55

Are you going to book in the name of Big Tilly Mint or La Creperie? Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/01/2012 12:56

He is your Betrothed, MI. Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/01/2012 12:59

I was wondering what bb stood for - Best Before? Brigitte Bardot? But now I see that it is Blemish Balm. Will try it.

motherinferior · 08/01/2012 13:01

Am weary of sole childcare - or more accurately sole cooking and washing - this weekend. Must feed children (AGAIN!) and take them to the Imperial War Museum.

DD2 had to find 'kn' words for her homework. I suggested Knickers. Good to see that two degrees in English, one of them from Oxford, have not gone to waste Hmm.
