New thread.

I just didn't read it properly bloss, all is good, non? When our plane finally landed yesterday I had tears streaming down my face because I felt so sick and thought it would never end. DD was totally relaxed about it all...

red It's another nephew!

pickledsiblings · 07/01/2012 21:06

Evening All Smile

Fritzi, welcome back. What a great start to the New Year for you and DH.

Bloss, glad you got back safely. Are you going for the Whistles navy coated skinnies too? I simply had to as I have been fantasising about their existence for months now.

Ollie, would a pair of navy waxed skinnies cheer you up? Hope you feel better soon.

Yes to MU and yes to food, Oh and Marsha, please can I have a PM with a link to your work Smile.

MrsCB, I think the Agnes would make more of an impression at your reunion than the Whistles skinnies. Lovely as the Whistles ones are, I think the Agnes are more 'edgy'. Do you think you'll be able to make our March MU this time? Would love to meet you and Verity and Carciofi too. I am guessing the ladies with the babies won't be able to make it. Icey, how will I manage without you??

blossoming · 07/01/2012 21:22

You poor thing fritzi. I hate turbulence. Good your dd was okay, but I know what you mean re tears. Hope it won't affect the lovely memories you have of your trip.

Thanks for that info hopefully. I am eternally grateful that I suit black! Stick around!

MarshaBrady · 07/01/2012 21:28

Pickled have pmd you. No new stuff quite yet. Close!

pickledsiblings · 07/01/2012 22:35

Fritzi, I was at a party last night and a group of us were discussing how common it is to have a fear of flying. One woman told us about how she cries everytime she flies now, ever since she was on a flight where one of the engines failed in mid-air ShockShock.

VerityBrulee · 07/01/2012 22:39

Bloss I can't even ride a bike, let alone up the mountains! Can't swim either Blush

Fleecy it's lovely to be thinking about the house in a positive way, rather than in despair! There have been a few things I wanted to do over the last couple of years, but wasn't as brave as Red or Icey or MIM. I hope that with the passsage of time we'll look back on the flood as a blessing in disguise! Your dc have such lovely names Smile

Red I have exactly the same problem with trousers, 8 on the waist, 10 on the bum. I just cannot get along with low or even mid rise, constantly hoiking up ones trousers is not a good look. I can never buy them online, and always have to be in a very patient mood to buy jeans in RL, so much trying on is involved.

MrsCB outfit sounds perfect as always. I always suggest that children remove their shoes, a few weeks of torment washing the floor and I might be handing all visitors slippers at the front door!

Zembo I think my plans may be thwarted, ds2 has come down with a sore throat. I will dose him up with vitamin C!

Hopefully · 07/01/2012 23:04

Thanks Bloss, but I am horribly under qualified for this thread! I am still at the 'did they remove the sense of style along with the placenta?' post natal stage after DS2, but I'm slowly improving, with judicious application of skinnies, huge scarves (cheque from godfather = new Lily and Lionel) and poor mans Jalouse boots

Am Envy of all of you who are able to pull off black, especially in the form of the Roxy. I aspire to find the perfect chocolate brown version.

Russianred · 07/01/2012 23:17

Hopefully sounds like you'll fit right in. Lovely boots there.

Vb so glad it's not just me! I can't bear it. Have you tried any Levi Curve jeans? Have never got on with Levis before so haven't bothered. White marble sounds gorgeous btw. We're going for Berber carpets elsewhere then top of the range laminate in the kitchen area. I almost cringe to write it but have been persuaded by the samples which are great. Will replace with real wood in the future but it makes sense with our chair- dragging, floor-soaking pair.

Have ordered the Whistles skinnies for click and collect so can return immediately on Monday if they're no good. Just watched Drive with Dh - such a fantastic film. He's now watching Eastbound and Down which i struggle to be amused by. Bed!

Marsha, saw these burgundy patent ballet pumps and thought of you as they are much reduced.

loobylu3 · 07/01/2012 23:36

Evening all!

Sorry to hear about all the poorly people and hope you feel better soon.
You are all tempting me with this chat about coated skinnies, especially fritzi's remark about spanx for the legs! I kind of feel like I can't justify a purchase that I wouldn't actually wear for nearly a year though. I am also in between a 26 and a 28. Will probably be a 28 no question post no.4 though!

dauphin- no reason why you couldn't have a no.4 Wink.

fritzi- hope you are well and what an amazing holiday. The stuff memories are made of! I would love to go to SA one day.

verity- sorry to hear about the flood. I assume it was v serious if you are replacing the kitchen, etc. You are brave to choose white but I'm sure it will look gorgeous.

fleecy- sorry to hear about your mastitis- horrid! If you are unlucky enough to get it again, do see the GP early for antibiotics. Don't worry re the clothes- take your time!

red and pickled- loving your baby sex predictions! Maybe you can predict for me later on although I am v likely to find out the sex at the 20 week scan. Had a brief chat with DH this evening re names and he is being a total pain as usual. He says 'no' to everything that I suggest and fails to come up with any ideas himself- aargh!

bloss- biking sounds fun but not sure I would want to go with lots of hard core bikers as a novice! Your DS must have done really well if he managed to keep up.

Really tired after taking the DC most of the day and must go to bed.

FritziGreenEyes · 08/01/2012 06:30

looby So great to have you back! How exciting about DC4 Smile

Morning all! Have great Sundays!

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2012 06:38

looby sympathies re names, DH was exactlythe same, no to everything but absolutely no suggestions of his own! Bit of browbeating did the trick, eventually.

red and verity I have the same problem, though it's a 10 and a 12 for me sadly. Low rise not good at all, muffin top city when they inevitably slip down.

Am exhausted today, this flipping baby! Even if she woke me just once or twice in the night would be fantastic. Must have been six times last night, then up for good at 5.15am - what am I doing wrong? DS was sleeping through by this point!

blossoming · 08/01/2012 06:52

Hi to all the early risers! You would think that after his exertions yesterday and then watching rugby till 8, DS would have slept in. Not a bit of it. Then he woke dd. we're all on the sofa drinking tea!
amber, we read this.

MidnightinMoscow · 08/01/2012 06:55

Morning.

Great to have you back Fritzi, sounds like you had an amazing time. Sorry to hear about the flying though. Lovely news about your Sister, I am sure DD will love her new baby cousin.

VB I cannot ride a bike either! I am totally useless at all things outdoors. Your plans sound great - what sort of kitchen did you go for? We have a slate floor in the kitchen, but my goodness it shows every speck of dust and crumb. Never again.

Sorry to hear of the mastitis fleecy, hope you are feeling better soon. You too ollie.

I am really hankering after the Lily's now, they look great and I have wanted a coated pair of jeans for ages...(since the GAP ones linked here ages ago). But, just a little worried about what size to go for. I am a 28/29 in jeans normally...but cannot imagine wearing anything that doesn't involve a massive elastic panel at the moment.

Amber you are the queen of the sales, may I ask what you paid for the Houlihans in the end? I love the olive ones. If you get to Wimbledon village Marsha, I hope you are as successful. Lots of nice places to stop for coffee and cake as well, one of my favourite parts of London.

Had a visit from the loft company yesterday, we are just finalising the plans now, and are hoping to have an en suit with a bath and shower now which will be wonderful. DH and the architect were discussing soil pipes and inlet valves whilst I was thinking about White Company towels instead....suspect the interesting part for me is a little way off yet!

Hopefully hello, do stick around. This thread was invaluable for getting me through the post natal style desert with DS.

MidnightinMoscow · 08/01/2012 06:57

Morning, back to you Bloss!

Sympathy on the lack of sleep Amber. I posted here on MN on the sleep board a few times, and received some helpful advice.

notyummy · 08/01/2012 07:54

Morning!

Welcome Hopefully!

Fleecy- well done on the weight loss and sorry to hear about the mastitis.

Bloss- I had set the Biggest Loser to record. Dh refuses to watch it (along with One Born. Every Minute) so I have to watch when he is away. Well fine on the biking- think of the calories!!

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2012 07:56

MiM they were £49. I think avidity has been key to my success. I know a lot of people don't like sale shopping but I love the thrill of the chase!

bloss thanks for that recommendation. Will take a look.

I think a lot of it is to do with co-sleeping (i.e. I disturb her), but then she is immensely reluctant to sleep in her cot so it's a bit of a rock/hard place situation. We will get there I'm sure, I just hope I don't lose my mind first.

hopefully you're in the right place. This lot have kept me on the style straight and narrow since my DD was born, after the dark days of men's hoodies and ripped jeans post-DS. Grim.

MidnightinMoscow · 08/01/2012 08:25

Hmm, it's difficult Amber. I'm sure you have probably tried this, but have you left something you wear in her cot (all day long) to see if she is comforted by your smell? I also used to put a hot water bottle in DS's cot just before he went into it (obviously took it out when he went in there Grin) to take the edge of the coldness of the sheets.

Great price on the Houli's by the way.

Meant to ask Marsha if I could see your work too, am fascinated.

Morning NY.

Ants hows the hangover today?!

Feeling ultra organised, roast chicken in the oven (Oh I so miss roast lamb/beef...the sacrifices for allergies in this house Wink), stuffing made and vegetables prepped. Cannot contemplate a roast dinner without being able to everything done before hand, otherwise it's carnage.

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2012 08:47

MiM I did try that when she was tiny to try and get her into her Moses basket (sensing a trend here..) but haven't done for a while. Will give it a go. TBH she might just be one of those PITA babies who wake every hour. Roll on self-settling... Serves me right for feeling badly done by when DS took 6 months to sleep through!

AntPants1 · 08/01/2012 09:04

hopefully stay! I also joined the thred after having a baby and it really helped me find my way back to the light!

amber have you thought of using a sleep consultant? We used Milpond when DS was about 8 months as he was waking several times in the night, some nights every 45 mins! And I was broken. Anyway google Milpond and see if they as for you. They got DS sleeping within a week and they do not force you to control cry if you don't want to (although we did because it was the quickest way to sort things and I was broken!)

MIM I am broken. I have cystitis. Have been up since about 1 am. DH has just gone out to get me cranberry juice. I so rarely drink and this last month I have really gone for it. Am suffering now though! I hate cystitis. Am in really bad mood....very exciting about loft BTW. We had ours done when we had DS and it was a great move for us and actually not too disruptive ( unlike the side return we had done the year before, Red and icey I feel your pain!!). With the loft the builder spend the first 2/3 weeks outside working on the roof and the structural side of things so not in the house. You have a bad couple of weeks when they put the stairs in and "break through" and then you are on the home stretch and considering white compan stuff!!!

Anyway must crack on. DD has her first swimming lesson and is beyond herself with excitement...

Hopefully · 08/01/2012 09:12

Thanks for the welcome! Maybe I'll pop my head above the parapet occasionally. You know, with all those little gems of style wisdom I possess (e.g. check that the baby didn't smear bogies all over the shoulder of your new casually chic knitwear before leaving the house).

I have just started actually properly dieting. Have been forced to accept that the last stone of baby weight is not going to fall off, and I look significantly nicer as a 10/12 than a 12/14. Grim, but at least I'll be able to shop properly soon (wise, see - not shopping too much while fat Smile).

Amber I thought DS1 was a pain with his sleeping, but DS2 took it to a whole new level. He woke basically hourly until he was about 7.5 months, then gradually started to improve, and at 9 months he almost always sleeps till at least 3am before waking, and sometimes 5:30am. Bliss.

MarshaBrady · 08/01/2012 09:13

Amber big sympathy. We were nearly destroyed by ds2's sleeping. Difficult breathing meant bf'ding for decongestion. Every two hours or less for a year. The only thing that helped was getting dh to put him to sleep so the connection between sleep and bf was broken.

Do you have to bf each time she wakes?
Ants suggestion of a sleep consultant is a good idea.

Thanks MIM, I hope it's easy to park round there.... I will send a link!

Pickled ooh excellent. Maybe I should get the Bloch pumps instead of these. What do you think? Or both?

MarshaBrady · 08/01/2012 09:14

Hopefully welcome and do stay. I found it a good incentive to lose the pounds after having ds2.

IceCreamCastles · 08/01/2012 10:20

Morning everyone. Huge sympathies Amber. Getting dh to do bedtime & settling worked well for us (eventually when dd was 20 months old) also, accepting that there was going to be a bit of crying but not leaving her alone.

Enjoy your roast MiM. Yes, loft does sound exciting. If we extend here it will be in front of and above garage so hopefully not too much disruption inside. Still undecided but suppose we would never regret having more space.

Hope the ill ones are feeling better this morning. Ants-sorry you are feeling so rubbish but you do make me laugh with your tales of self destruction Grin

Dd made me melt last night - 'I love my new dolly from father Christmas, mummy' (her corolle one) 'and I love you so much mummy' ahhh Smile

notyummy · 08/01/2012 10:31

Many sympathies Amber. I wish I had words of wisdom but nothing original. Second the ideas so far though.

Ants- sorry to hear about the cystitis. Sounds like medication and an early night is called for [mother hen emoticon].

Another great day for running here today and i did a quick 5 miles before breakfast. I had a fab longish run on Friday under blue skies with no wind- was 7 miles which isn't that long compared to the distances I was regularly doing last Summer, however the winter has interfered with my distance training so I am going to have to build up again. Just nice not to be running in the rain and wind.
