M? LOL! Grin

CointreauVersial · 24/11/2011 22:36

MrsS, that is depressing. My boss is a good few years older than me, and a "self-made man", so devoid of any qualifications to speak of.

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/11/2011 22:43

I am devoid of qualifications as well, CV. Blush Apart from O levels. And a couple of crappy A levels.

LadyWord · 24/11/2011 22:47

Hello. I've just seen this and don't know if I'm intruding, but it looks like my scene in here. How crepey does one have to be exacty?

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/11/2011 06:10

Welcome, LadyWord. The more the merrier! I like to think we are not that crepey, but you need to be able to discuss perimenopausal symptoms, leather jackets, Champagne and anything else in between. I am sure you will fit right in.

PS If it will make you feel better, when we had the Crepeys' Convention, they all greeted me with "Oh I thought you were going to be really old!" ConfusedHmmGrin

bigTillyMint · 25/11/2011 07:49

Hi there LadyWord and please join us - we are ladies in our Prime Grin

CointreauVersial · 25/11/2011 09:23

Ladies in our Prime. Grin I fear I am a little over-ripe, possibly.

Anyway, it's all happening in the CV house today - the solar panels are going on - yay! Looks like we will be OK to beat the deadline and benefit from the full Feed-in-Tariff rate for the next 25 years, so after 7 years or so we should be "in the money" tra-la-la-la......Or so the theory goes. I now need to change my habits to use electrical things (washing machine, underfloor heating etc) mainly in daylight hours. Lighting is going to be a problem.....Grin

CointreauVersial · 25/11/2011 09:24

....still thinking about that lovely suede jacket, though.....

CointreauVersial · 25/11/2011 09:41

Nooooooo.....one of the roofers has just had a huge stinky dump in my loo. OK, he had to go somewhere, but bleuurgh, I feel violated.

Blackduck · 25/11/2011 09:43

CV - go buy jacket to compensate ;)

Dp is wildly spending my tax rebate on accommodation in Goa and not listening to me!

CointreauVersial · 25/11/2011 10:13

Nice idea, BD, but I daren't leave the house today. It's like Piccadilly Circus in here (they have to go through the house to get up to the loft).

I can't concentrate on anything today. I might go and watch something trashy on Daytime TV for a while (I have a ton of apples to cut up and stew, but apparently the electricity is going off shortly, so I don't dare start that).

CointreauVersial · 25/11/2011 10:28

An hour of electricity left, apparently, so no excuse - off to tackle the apples.

House still stinks (vom).

herbaceous · 25/11/2011 10:30

Strike a match, CV. Works for us. We only have the one lav, in the one bathroom, so for the morning rush matches are essential to prevent instant vomiting on the part of the second person in the bathroom.

CointreauVersial · 25/11/2011 11:27

I was going to walk down the corridor ostentatiously spraying Febreze, but I thought that might cause offence.

Anyway, leccy going off now so I'd better sign off before I get cut off in the middle of a

Wink
bigTillyMint · 25/11/2011 16:54

herbs, serious? Must give it a go after DH and DD. DS ad I never make nasty smellsGrin

CV you are very brave to stay in the house with the roffers - I always go out when we hae workmen in, otherwise I seem to spend the whole time making cups of tea, and unable to use the loo!

Blackduck · 25/11/2011 18:24

Okay hags I need your wisdom and clarity.
Remember we got pipped at post for house B? Well now looking at house A again - more money remember? We have an offer, but a lot lower than we did our original Maths on for A so A has just got more expensive iyswim. Also in house A which was four bed they have knocked fourth room into third to make en suite. They are interested in us now we are proceedable and are happy for us to view work (big of them). They also want more money than last offer (not officially accepted) that we made.

If you are still with me....advice, views, cold harsh realities please. I know dp is utterly sold on this house, but I am the voice of caution (as always in our relationship although I pointed put this was not a debate over a 100 pound v a 50 pound beach hut in goa for seven nights...). I need some perspective hags.

oldqueenie · 25/11/2011 18:44

where is original info re houses? on this thread? point me towards it and i'll be v happy to opine....

Blackduck · 25/11/2011 18:52

OQ - here you go..

Okay, but it is really the comparison that is the issue.

House A - detached, on a hill, stunning views. Small, cottage style and is subject to very tight planning regs so no real scope to develop/extend.

House B - semi detached, down the hill from House A, same views, but not quite as stunning (due to fact down the hill a bit). Bigger house (room size), very usable space. Potential to extend (not hugely, but enough).

We have an (unaccepted) offer in on House A, but are in weird position that owners are no longer actively advertising it, but still have our offer on the table - they haven't actually withdrawn it from sale (as dp said if they had we probably would not be in this dilemma).

I am trying to think about how I would feel if House A didn't exist!

Blackduck · 25/11/2011 18:53

House b now sold....

oldqueenie · 25/11/2011 18:59

hmmm. are you sure you don't need to hold out for house C? how do you feel about house A? will it always feel like second choice? how long could you plan to live there if space is an issue (moving is sooo expensive)?

Blackduck · 25/11/2011 19:02

House A was really first choice (it is pretty unique) house b was the pragmatic, more affordable second choice (but would have been happy with it) with have a house C in mind but it always was pipped by A and B.

oldqueenie · 25/11/2011 19:09

do you luuuuuurve house A?

Blackduck · 25/11/2011 19:18

The physical house? No. The location, yes. It is very much a life style thing house B or C we could manage comfortably and not really change our current habits. House A is a bigger mortgage and thus a bigger financial commitment.

Stropperella · 25/11/2011 19:21

If buying house A means lying awake at night worrying about an over-large mortgage, don't do it. House C will be along after Christmas, I betcha.

Blackduck · 25/11/2011 19:25

I think part of the issue is dp and I have always had mortgages that are doable on one salary, house A isn't. It my job went pearshaped we would be pushed to live on dp's income. See dp is of a 'something will come along' attitude, but short of a lottery win (50k would do), i just think its eggsonbasket territory...
