Here we go..

OP posts:
blossoming · 09/10/2011 18:06

Yes, explanation needed pickled!

redllamayellowllama · 09/10/2011 18:36

Ignore DH Bloss, you looked amazing.

I too am intrigued by this wild tale - please reveal!

AntPants1 · 09/10/2011 18:44

I feel that the hair, candle, fire drama is really pickled's tale to tell.....

pickledsiblings · 09/10/2011 19:25

Here is the incident, retold by DS1:

When I was out in London with some of my friends we were having drinks together in a lovely cave bit in a pub and there were two nice candles. Then I leant over to get a chip and my hair just burst into flames. I kept on wacking my hair to put the fire out. The whole thing was because I put this lotion on my hair that was flammable. Everyone around me went crazy!

I think that just about sums it up Grin.

IceCreamCastles · 09/10/2011 19:37

Erm, I think ollie deserves some credit for her fire fighting skills but an otherwise succinct summary from pickled's ds1!

I think the story of ollie's kew skirt debacle needs retelling too for the benefit of those who missed it.

Hello zembo- great to see you back. We missed you and your beautiful links.

Bought dd some stickers at the station so was rewarded with a lovely welcome and 20 minutes peace when I got in

Emo76 · 09/10/2011 20:00

I will never forget the sight of Ollie "scrappy doo" style beating the flames out....it all seemed to happen in slow motion. Pickles was an incredibly good sport about it all - hope the locks are okay today!

notyummy · 09/10/2011 20:09

Ants- so pleased you ordered the clutch!

I missed the hair incident- went to the loo and came back to the smell of searing hair. Was relieved that fire warden Ollie was there to save the day.

Dh has just made us a chorizo, cod and chickpea stew and am lolling on sofa watching skyplussed strictly and X Factor. Ideal hangover fodder!

redllamayellowllama · 09/10/2011 20:12

Bloody hell!

  1. Where on earth was the cave - can't remember seeing that feature?
  2. Has your hair recovered?
  3. Is there even the smallest of chances this may have been documented in some way. Although surely distressing at the time, sounds like comedy gold.

Have just enjoyed Strictly very much - Nancy Del'Ollio is surely completely nuts?! I love her. And Russell Grant is my new hero. Am praying that I luck out with getting tickets.

OllieinOrange · 09/10/2011 20:14

On train, will post properly later with a few more tales from last night but have just snorted out loud reading the above posts! Yes, i do have a scrappy do style of fire fighting (whilst also shrieking" Pickled" slightly hysterically!)

The Kew skirt debacle. Ah, well, after preparing my 'having holes in side seams is just not acceptable for a 80 pound skirt' speech, it turns out the 'holes' are actually where the POCKETS have been sewn up, as pointed out by the store manager who was wearing one! Oh the shame!!! I didnt even know it had bloody pockets!

Just another day in Ollie's world then!

blossoming · 09/10/2011 21:00

Oh my goodness. That sounds horrific. Poor pickled. There is a lesson there for us all.
But how I laughed at ollie's skirt story. And really, as my DH pointed out, why were the pockets sewn down?

notyummy · 09/10/2011 21:08

We will get you a high visibility jacket got the next meet-up Ollie! At least you didn't wrestle her to the floor and roll her (which is what I am trained to do in that kind of situation, but I am fairly sure the blokes in the Mews might just think it was some sort of entertaining floor show and start clapping.... Hmm)

OllieinOrange · 09/10/2011 21:40

Home now - seemed like a v long journey. Dh says I look exhausted - nice!

Had a nice potter round the shops this afternoon - brought this Gap dress because it was a steal and I saw that the waitress who was serving the outdoor tables last night was wearing one and looked nice in it! Will wear it with the top buttons undone, white vest underneath and tan sandals - next summer of course! I also got some of the lovely black patent M&S shoes a la NY - very comfy and a good wardrobe staple.

Many things are making me smile from yesterday:

  • Obviously the fire thing could have been a lot worse but I will never forget turning to my left to see half of Pickled's head on fire - literally. You really were amazing how calmly you dealt with it all Pickled and yes, it really hasn't left any noticable damage other than the faint pong of singed hair!
  • My face - when out came (the much anticipated on my part) cake platter only to see the cupcakes were tiny! (But apart from that, the food really was yummy);
  • Enjoying a lovely lebonese Mezze platter with Icey and Pickled at 2am in a restaurant close to the hotel;
  • Getting Emo to run over and ask a girl where she got her lovely sequin dress from (Harvey Nics was the response!);
  • I loved meeting WAN, Ants and Red - all just as lovely as they appear on this thread.
  • Never being able to go into that particular brach of Kew again!
  • Other fashion items worthy of note include Fritzis lovely chunky necklace and the gorgeous watch DH gave her - good taste Mr F; Pickled's coloured tights;Emos red dress - a total man magnet; all of Bloss's new puchases; Portia's lovely top and shrug from Spain - great colour; Annie's shoes and her ability to keep upright in them whilst tackling a steep cobbled street; NYs skirt - much admired by us all, Reds beautiful skin and make up; the lovely colour and print on Ants Kew dress; WAN and Iceys rocking maternity chic and Marsha's amazing hand knitted scarf - Liberty would be proud to stock it - gorgeous;

Made it to breakfast Bloss and scoffed rather a lot but it was all very nice!

Right - really must go to bed now. A lovely, lovely weekend - thank you!

FritziGreenEyes · 10/10/2011 07:04

Hehe, managed to smuggle my "filet" through customs and now back home!

Had such a wonderful time at MU. Everyone was just so lovely and the venues perfect this time!

notyummy · 10/10/2011 09:14

Glad everyone home safe!

Annie - your day sounded great. Yes, The Fades is definitely a bit freaky. I love the relationship between the main character and his best friend - that black guy is hugely charismatic and watchable. We have watched the first three so far - odd mixture of bizarre ghost/zombie stuff and well written realistic relationships, but certainly very watchable.

ollie - loved your skirt story. Sounds like the sort of thing that happens to me!!

MarshaBrady · 10/10/2011 09:45

What an excellent rendition of the hair event by your ds1 Pickled. And so glad it wasn't worse but I did chuckle Ollie reading your version and the 'Pickled!' part.

Anniemac yes to cuteness. Ds2 says atchoo when given stuff meaning thank you. I love it (although probably cuter to me as my own child Grin).

Red we were moved downstairs into a cave part. Which in hindsight was very lucky considering how busy it got later. Loads of people dancing next to our little secluded bit.

Glad everyone is home safe. The MU was fab, I really enjoyed it. Smile

What a day and night! Am very envious of you all. Some day I will get there.
Agree with the others Bloss, DH clearly just nervous! Re the Sandro dress, I was thinking just black opaques and my Kurt Geiger shoo boots from last year.
Am going to a charity fashion show this evening! Planning on wearing my Max Marx fushia coloured dress (purchased in summer sales) with
opaques, House of Harlow black platforms Dsis got me from my birthday and a silver evening coat! Can't wait.
Meant to say, got a very nice black pencil skirt. It's from Inwear. Can't link, but its a brand you come across a lot in various boutiques. It's stretchy, and has am exposed zip as a nice feature in the back. Very reasonable price too. (70 euro)
Lovely cosy links Annie

MarshaBrady · 10/10/2011 10:04

Anniemac, Oh yes that is a rather dreamy nightie isn't it! I really need new pjs too. All the buttons got ripped off my last Bodas ones with all the tired attempts at middle of the night bf'ding back then. Grr.

Rufus I loved your Sandro stuff. I particularly love the gorgeous blue skirt and black band on the dress. Really lovely.

FritziGreenEyes · 10/10/2011 10:54

marsha The things they say and words they come up with, just adorable. I actually started to write down some of DD's "special words" because I'm sure I won't be able to remember them later.

After breakfast yesterday I made a tour through the shops along Piccadilly, Regent St. and Oxford St. ending my tour at Selfriges. Like portia I didn't buy anything. Err, except for a butter dish and a lunchbag for DD at John Lewis Grin.

Spent a long time in Waterstones/Piccadilly, which at 11am on a Sunday was deserted and lovely and quiet like a library.

Next stop Anthropologie. They have lots of very nice skinny belts. Had to buy a pair of cheap but glam sunglasses there as I had left mine at home. I feel almost naked without sunglasses on a sunny-ish day. I'm not really into their clothes but love to have a wander through the shop.

Loved this dress at Reiss but they didn't have my size. They also had the softest, most gorgeous leather jackets (in case anyone is looking for on).

Went to Hoss on Regent St. but was really underwhelmed. Colours very boring and a lot of very shapeless dresses. Used to love that brand so much and loved their spring/summer stuff last year.

Then on to Topshop where I wanted to hunt down the feather skirt. Haven't been to Topshop in ten years I think but got excellent CS from a sales girl who looked about 12-years-old but was very efficient and friendly. Unfortunately they don't stock the skirt anymore. Anyone looking for a boucle jacket: I thought this looked very chic and would work well with pencil skirts or jeans.

Lots of gorgeous cashmere sweaters in Uniqlo in all colours of the rainbow.

Had a look at the Joseph collection in Selfridges and they also had some seperates in the gorgeous lipstick red of emo's fab dress.

Sorry for long, long post.... Feel free to skip smile
