If you are OVER 5'7", where have you got a good longish waterproof warm coat?

I realise this has been done before and there was some success last year in persuading companies that such a thing would sell.

However I've just had my usual utterly rage-inducing visit to my local (very good) outdoor shop, where I was told that a warm, waterproof coat that was also long was 'doing a different job to what we sell'. What, doing a different job to keeping people warm and dry? Hmm I was shown jackets that are a bit longer than sit-on-your-bum style, hillwalking jackets which are warm and dry but basically awful, etc. And the man wouldn't stop talking.

What's around this year, have you bought anything good, or are we still at the stage where yes there are a few coats that fit shorter people fine, sell out in a week, and we have to look to Denmark for imports?

If anyone from a likely company reads this, please let me be clear: I WILL PAY MONEY FOR A LONGLINE WATERPROOF WARM COAT THAT FITS ME AND LOOKS EVEN JUST OK but I cannot find one

Me too... Thanks for the info. If I don't get made redundant I may treat myself in celebration!

Please tell me about the Celeste Parka! Is it warm, warm, warm but not so heavy that it isn't suitable for a mildish winter's day? Also, colours. I can only see black and White being available online. Is the black shiny? It looks a bit shiny in the photos!

Thanks

OMG You lot are a life saver!! I have been having a nightmare looking for a winter coat for the school run. I've never needed a proper outdoorsy coat before so was completley stuck. Didn't like any of the ones that look like sleeping bags etc. and for me its going to be a big spend that i want to get right and for it to last.
I finally narrowed it down to the Didrikson Elly or Isabelle and needed to know what other peoples thoughts were...and there you all were!!!!
Im only 5'6'' and between an 8-10 so do you think i will be ok with these ?(leaning more towards the Elly) after a particular soaking in my 'waterproof' or 'unwaterproof' as it will now forever be known as.
Thanks for all the great tips so far :) What size is the 10??

GLewis · 18/11/2011 21:34

Hi does anyone know where I can buy a Didrikson celeste coat in snow white rather than black?

RonnieBirtles · 18/11/2011 22:18

Oh love it! Just ordered the Didrickson Celeste in dark green. Perfect 'weekend, take kids to park, go shopping in rain' type coat. Thanks for the recommendation laydeeeez Grin

I got the Elly (based on the recommendations in this thread). I'm not particularly tall (only 5ft 5). Got the size 10 and it fits perfectly. It's machine-washable, which is great with 2 young kids who have no issues with wiping snot or food on mummy's coat and clothes. It's a really nice coat- even drew compliments from DH and SIL (she is something of a coat expert, and was very impressed). Lots of pockets, very warm, looks good and customer service from the website where i bought it (for 50 quid less than elsewhere) was impeccable. All in all, really pleased. A very good mumsnet-swears-by piece.

lolasdaughter · 06/12/2011 09:48

btw the size 10 is a 36

DownyEmerald · 13/12/2011 19:59

Thanks to this thread I bought the Didricksons Isabelle, and I am loving it. Feel so warm and dry in it, but not bulky at all, so great to wear in the car.

Hi girls,

since you have experience with parkas, could you please help me?

I am ordering Didriksen Celeste via internet and am not sure wich size to take 12 or 14?
I am 179 cm (5ft10).
Thnx

Prolesworth · 17/01/2012 14:46

I'm a size 14, 5'9" and the Didriksons Celeste parka in size 40 fits me perfectly. HTH :)

Ana2405 · 17/01/2012 14:48

So you say I should go with 40?
Wohoo, I'm buying it asap! :)

Thank you!

WinterGoddess · 17/01/2012 15:03

Try North Face Arctic parka - warm, waterproof and long enough for me @ 5ft 9in.

If anyone is after the Didriskons Celeste or any of the other fantastic ladies coats - check out www.vikingkids.co.uk they have their sale on at the moment and their coats are fantastic. I've ordered for DD from them for years and they are so friendly and helpful. They were the first ones to bring Didriksons to the UK so they really know their stuff. They have the Isablle, Desiree and Celeste, all of which are waterproof and breathable and also great for tall ladies :)

Please please can i resurrect this! Am also looking for holy grail but style names changed. Would love feedback on how you all lked your coats.
I am looking at Thelma Tilde. Want nicely long, nearly knee length ideally. Am 65 kilos 5'9.5 around a UK 12 but can vary 10-14 as broad shoulders. Confused as to whether 38 or 40 best. Thanks.
