OP posts:
Jux · 25/10/2011 17:19

She's been using the cream since yesterday evening. I think I can see a difference, but that might be because I really really really want to Grin (feel so guilty about the break out, even though I'm pretty sure it wasn't really down to BE and my doing her make up for her! and even though that led to her getting the dx and the cream).

She and doc talked about a-bs but she decided she'd try this first, and will go back at some point if necessary. She's pretty positive now, and with luck we should see a real (rather than imaginary) difference by the end of half term.

meltedchocolate · 25/10/2011 18:23

So what do you DO with the veil? Buff like the foundation? Just wipe over? What exactly is it for?

ggirl · 25/10/2011 19:29

veil is just a translucent powder that you sweep over your skin. No need to buff it in. You can also put on before foundation if you get oily.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 25/10/2011 21:06

Jux sounds good about the improvement, hopefully DD will return to school with a little more confidence than she had before :) Teenage skin can be so cruel - just when you want to look your best and have an active social life, up pop spots to spoil it all Angry. You've done a great thing for her by making that appt, well done.

I use a very soft, flat powder brush to apply the veil. I got mine from Boots, and I just sweep it on. The first time I used it I buffed it in but it lifted off the foundation and I thought it was crap. When I tried it again, properly, I found it brilliant. It is good when used before foundation too, it does help absorb oil.

Right, anyone got any ideas as to why I've suddenly gone all 'porey'? My skin was unbelievably dry last week, as someone who usually resembles an oil slick this was most unusual, nay unheard of for me. I was slapping tons of moisturiser on day and night and the flakiness has finally gone.

However, my pores are definitely more visible now and I'm wondering if, somehow, the events of last week have caused it? My make up also looks really patchy now too. Not changed anything about how I apply it, using same brushes etc, but it looks as crap as my old liquid foundation did before I started using minerals. Only more disappointing now because I know how great it looked before this weekend :(

What can I do? I'm using primer already but making no difference. I have honestly spent all day today wanting to cry, sounds ridiculous but the LL really had made such a difference to my confidence and now I'm back to square one again.

ggirl · 25/10/2011 21:35

grape - sounds odd , could it be hormonal ?
I once asked an orange lady about my pores and she put her hand on my face at the top of my cheek and lifted my skin up "it's not pores my dear it's just your skin drooping and dry"
well I was shocked but she was right
I started to used eucerin face cream with urea and it did help because it helps to moisturise as well as exfoliate (learnt that from you tube video)
I'm guessing your patchiness is dry patches of skin.
Are you taking any medication?
central heating at work/home?

OhThisIsJustGrape · 25/10/2011 21:52

Skin isn't at all dry now so that's not causing the patchiness.

It's the areas next to my nose that have the enlarged pores - not on my actual nose but not as far over as my cheeks itms - and the skin looks different, slightly shiny but not from oiliness. Almost like it's new skin? Having just typed that, I guess that's exactly what it is - the dryness caused my skin to flake off and this is the layer underneath.

Oooh, I wonder if it's just temporary then? I think the dryness is a combination of central heating, the cold snap last week and using the minerals. I guess slapping on liquid foundation for over a decade must've hydrated my skin more than I realised whereas the minerals are dry - obviously - and all that buffing probably roughshod the skin up a little.

Off into town tomorrow so going to look for something that promises to minimise my pores. Will have a look for that cream, thanks ggirls

OhThisIsJustGrape · 25/10/2011 21:53

*roughed not roughshod. Flipping iPad autocorrect!

valiumredhead · 26/10/2011 11:54

I think sometimes mineral foundation can high light pores and so make us more aware of them.

I seem to remember there was nothing on the market you could buy that actually minimized pores - it was all a big fat lie! Grin And that you could just disguise them with products.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 26/10/2011 15:53

But they weren't this visible before the weekend and I've been using minerals for about a month now Confused

What I would give for perfect skin that didn't need make up... :(

fannybanjo · 26/10/2011 16:19

Grape I use Retin A and it's diminished my pores. It's hardcore stuff and you can't use it if pregnant or breastfeeding but I sorts out pores, spots AND lines.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 26/10/2011 21:19

Oh bugger, I'm breastfeeding :( Still, not for much longer as after 16 months I'm reaching the stage where I feel I've done my bit :)

So, for future reference, where do I obtain this magical ointment?

fannybanjo · 26/10/2011 21:46

Grape what skin type do you have?

ggirl · 26/10/2011 21:47

Yes as a true sheep I want some retinA too..where do we get it?

fannybanjo · 26/10/2011 22:11

G girl I'll PM you. It's strong stuff and I wouldn't want people to willy nilly order it without knowing what they're using. My skin texture (after using it since March) has remarkably improved. Still break out every now and then but lines are improving (I don't have many anyway) and I have a lovely sheen to my skin. A girl I met begged me to tell her what i used as she said my skin looked liked I'd just had a facial. You don't need to ever exfoliate. I bloody love it. Grin

Jux · 27/10/2011 01:03

I've just googled Retin A. £70!!!!!!

meltedchocolate · 27/10/2011 01:17

Thanks for the tips with the veil. I have tried it and not sure. Got my garnier BB creme samples today and LOVE it. Thought I wouldn't like it, thought it was all hype most likely and in reality it would be crap. No. I LOVE it! I shall be using it under BE on days out :)

SO glad I got BE in fairly light. Light made me look yellowy/orange!

Where is Jodie?

The best product has to be the BE mascara though (thanks Jodie). It's amazing. I have also (only just Blush ) invested in some eyelash curlers

OhThisIsJustGrape · 27/10/2011 07:40

Fanny I have very oily, spot-prone, rubbishy scarred skin. I googled Retin A and Chemists Direct had it for £7-odd, is that the stuff? I also read reviews on acne.org and it sounds scary - lots of initial peeling, major breakouts before it starts to work etc. Is that right? Won't be stopping bf'ing this side of Christmas so in no hurry to try it but sounds interesting, don't have many lines or wrinkles (the only positive thing about having oil slick skin :) ) but would love to minimise pores and fade the scarring I have.

Melted tell me more about the BB cream. Also where did the samples come from?

Jodie has had a tough time lately so is taking a break from MN. Hopefully she will return soon under a new name (got outed in real life) as it's Just Not Right without her here :( I'm sure she's still looking totes gorge though Grin

PinotScreechio · 27/10/2011 10:41

Jodie is still about watching us

I'm having a terrible time with spots on my neck - if it was the bismouth, would it cause localised breakouts like that? Or all over? Anyone know or can help :( :(

valiumredhead · 27/10/2011 10:45

Tell me about Garnier BB - is it a light foundation?

You haven't changed your shampoo have you pinot - that irritates my neck sometimes?

fannybanjo · 27/10/2011 10:50

Jux I pay £30 for mine - however I was prescribed the gel and have a huge tube on repeat prescription so if anyone who has oily skin, would like a large sample, PM me. It's the mildest form of gel, think is the 0.01% but the gel more potent that cream and brilliant for oily skin.

Grape, I've just taken an extreme close up photo of my nose (I suffered with open pores and blackheads) and you can see how clear it gone. I'll put it on my profile later for you to see. You'll get an idea then of how good it is. The key to using it is only use it 3 times a week. Don't use it as your main product if you have oily skin. It is a wonder product for some and not for others (like any medicine). If you want a sample of my gel come New Year then I'm happy to do that as I didn't cost me anything. The £7 is prescription only but people sell it online for around £30 and I'd pay £200 for it if I had to.

Jux · 27/10/2011 11:36

Fanny, you are GORGEOUS! (so are your girls).

Is Retin A likely to help with thread veins? That's my major problem.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 27/10/2011 12:40

Fanny you are stunning as are your DCs (and DH if you don't mind me saying Wink )

Tell me more about your skin before RetinA then...any scars? Regular breakouts? Your skin looks so flawless on your pics, I find it hard to believe you ever had a problem lol!

fannybanjo · 27/10/2011 13:49

Haha a photo hides a multitude of sins.... Thank you Jux and Grape, I actually am age 36 starting to be able to take a compliment but for years. I suffered with low self esteem. Skin was never great in my twenties, suffered with spots and would make them worse.

Re the Retin A, I used it in my early twenties and my skin became pretty flawless. Then obviously had three DC and breastfed so laid off it. My skin has been up and down since having them and went to see a dermatologist who recommended Jan Marini bio-Glycolic products and they helped tremendously (would definitely recommend them), however always wanted to get back on the retin A. I ordered some of it and used it every night and my skin did peel but once I realised I could still get the benefits but only use it 3 times a week then skin calmed down and it's been pretty great. Still get odd spot (hormonal) but pores massively reduced, blackheads gone. Fine lines reduced. It basically sloughs off dead skin (hence peeling) and because it's pure Vitamin A it makes your skin produce collagen at accelerated rate hence reduction in spots and lines. Spots peel away after a couple of days. I am addicted to it! Just be aware that it can take 6 months to see a difference, you really have to be hugely patient.

I'll post close up shot later on as out all day today! Gruesome!

fannybanjo · 27/10/2011 13:51

Should read "at age 36, I am finally able to take a compliment" - how I've worded it sounds like I'm saying oh aren't I young looking!!!!! GrinBlush. Not meant to say that! Damn iPhone.

Jux · 27/10/2011 17:05

(I didn't read your post that way, Fanny.)

If it sorts out thread veins I'd be happy using it for a year before seeing a difference. Bet it doesn't Sad
