Keratin/Brazilian Blow Dry

I got this on Amazon and a friend helped me do it last week. It was a faff - lot of blowdrying and straightening.. probably took about 3 hours in all but it was sooo worth it!!!

My waist length scarecrow frizz is now sleek and glossy.. it looks like I've done it with the big hair but I haven't... it's fantastic!!! I would even go so far as to say that it looks better than when I had it done in the salon for nearly £200.

I reckon I could have done it by myself but it would have taken me a lot longer and I might not have got the back done so well but omg I can't rave about this stuff enough!!!

I just bought the Charles Worthington one from Boots - have read good reviews about it. Not tried it yet though. It seems a lot quicker to do than a keratin one.

CrispyHedgehog · 27/09/2011 09:24

Haven't seen that one fergoose. I have stubborn hair that makes me look like Crystal Tipps if I'm not careful so I think I need a fairly heavy duty version :o

Hope you get a fab result too.

How long will yours last - the charles worthington one is meant to be 40 days apparently

CrispyHedgehog · 27/09/2011 09:42

it says three months but when I've had it done at the salon it's lasted more like 5 months so we'll see how this one goes.

i'm just soo impressed.. I washed it last night, haven't put any products in it and it looks like it's been done iyswim? It didn't even crinkle up in the night like it normally would!

sounds brilliant - how lovely to wake up with swishy hair. Is the condition good, does it look shiny.

CrispyHedgehog · 27/09/2011 10:35

It's very shiny, smooth and swishy. No frizzy ends or anything. it really does look like it's had a salon blow dry and I've not even had to comb it, just run my fingers through it. My hair's natural texture is pretty coarse, almost like pubes so this is incredible to me :o

I'm really pleased with it as when I've had it done at the salon I've still had to faff a fair bit every day.

Hehehe.. I keep gawping at it in the mirror and feeling it Blush

brilliant - am just doing my skin test then I will get mine done end of the week. :)

NewChoos · 27/09/2011 10:48

What's the charles worthington product - just had a google but couldn't see it.
Shiny and swishy sounds great.

It's this one - they do 2 versions, for dyed and undyed hair

Has only been launched this week and only from Boots I think

CrispyHedgehog · 28/09/2011 23:32

How's your hair fergoose?? :o

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/09/2011 08:43

I don't think it has worked

It seems to me to be perming solution that you comb through, then apply neutralising conditioner then straighten. My hair is shiny and straight it, but was no different before I straightened it and it has kinked and frizzed overnight. I reckon you could just use the contents of a home perming kit without the rollers as that seems to be all my kit contained!

Think I may give yours a whirl - is it difficult to do, my hair is about shoulder blade length.

lynlynnicebutdim · 29/09/2011 09:39

i am intrigued by this. anythign that would help control my hair and make it swishable would be a godsend. OP, do you think you could apply it yourself - without the assistance of a friend?

CrispyHedgehog · 29/09/2011 09:53

oh fergoose I'm sorry :( I did have a read of yours and it is definitely different to the one I used.

The one I used involved using a clarifying shampoo first, which was provided, then blowdrying the hair straight, then putting on the gunk, blow drying again, going over it with very hot straighteners (they recommend 400f but mine go to 230c - no idea what the comparison is) but doing each strand 7-8 times. You then have to be very careful not to get your hair wet, tie it or let it kink for 3 days.. you can restraighten it tho if needs be and then you wash it with a sodium free shampoo to get the keratin out on the third day and it's done. They do emphasise that the straighter you can get your hair, the better the result. I found when I had it done at the salon I was having to straighten it every day in those 3 days but with this one I didn't need to at all.

I'm pretty incompetent with grooming so got a friend to help but I think so long as you're reasonably proficient with a hairdryer/straighteners and have a lot of patience you'd be ok. It took my friend about 3 hours to do mine and I have almost waist length hair.

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/09/2011 09:56

So you don't rinse it out, you straighten with it in and then leave for 3 days?

Mine can't be washed for 48 hours now, but will go and straighten it again now. I guess I will see when I do wash it if it really has failed.

I wonder if I will have to wait a while to use yours - does it say anything about using on permed or coloured hair - is there a time you have to wait after having these done?

CrispyHedgehog · 29/09/2011 10:01

No you don't rinse it out til the third day. It's ok tho, it's not noticeable at all in your hair.

I think it's ok to use but can't 100% remember. It does recommend waiting two weeks after doing it to colour your hair. I've binned the instructions so can't check for you.

If you go to the amazon link and read the reviews and comments the people there are quite informative.

yummybunny i dont see why you would have to wait until after your baby is born. It is only Keretin you are applying, not a chemical as such. Keritin is just a protien and is naturally produced by the body. I am also pregnant and unless someone can tell me how it could be harmful, dont intend to wait.

fergoose · 29/09/2011 11:13

Some of them supposedly contain formaldehyde, or a similar chemical, so read the small print carefully if you are pregnant just to be sure. Mind you I did read formaldehyde was banned so am not sure how accurate that is!

CrispyHedgehog · 29/09/2011 11:26

Found the instructions! They were sitting in the recycling still :o

You can use it on children over 12.

it will last two months on 'virgin' hair and 3-4 months on any other hair.

Not recommended to do while pregnant or nursing.

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/09/2011 12:10

oh no! poor you typing all that out.

Did you get the Tresemme shampoo recommended - I was going to order that too.

CrispyHedgehog · 29/09/2011 12:46

I've still got some shampoo from when I had it done at the salon but I will get it when it runs out. You can get it in the supermarket/boots etc which would probably save on shipping costs
