Keratin/Brazilian Blow Dry

I got this on Amazon and a friend helped me do it last week. It was a faff - lot of blowdrying and straightening.. probably took about 3 hours in all but it was sooo worth it!!!

My waist length scarecrow frizz is now sleek and glossy.. it looks like I've done it with the big hair but I haven't... it's fantastic!!! I would even go so far as to say that it looks better than when I had it done in the salon for nearly £200.

I reckon I could have done it by myself but it would have taken me a lot longer and I might not have got the back done so well but omg I can't rave about this stuff enough!!!

Ah right, I thought sulphate was a salt? It's salt of sulphur...so maybe it's a different salt that does the damage...

hesaysyayisaynay · 13/10/2011 12:18

Thewisdom - mine is annoyingly greasy - if I have to wash it twice as often it defeats the purpose somewhat. I asked the salon and they said to use less conditioner and only on the ends. I just think the shampoo doesn't get rid of any grease well enough. Will try shampooing twice next time not once.

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 13/10/2011 12:39

The sulphates cause the shampoo to 'lather' and create the bubbly effect. The salt strips the hair shaft. So being Sulphate free - eg sodium laurel sulphate in ingredients is a good thing, but not essential. Salt free (Sodium Chloride) is essential as it will remove the keratin on the hair shaft.

hth.

I dont use conditioner on the fringe part of my hair, just length and ends but it is v greasy at the top. Not impressed at the moment.

BattyDevineIntervention · 13/10/2011 13:54

My hair is definitely a bit greasier at the roots since doing the treatment - I guess my over dried over processed hair before was just sucking the oil up but now its been replenished of its protein structure so it doesn't need as much so it coats the hair more I guess?

Its nothing a little dry shampoo can't fix though.

It was so worth it for the elasticity its given back, the soft pliable feel that I now have to my hair.

Alouiseg · 13/10/2011 14:16

Did you do your friends hair Batty?

Angel786 · 13/10/2011 21:53

Another query - once you've had teh treatment and washed hair, do you still blow dry / straighten etc or should the frizz be reduced if it dries naturally?

louloubellamozzarella · 14/10/2011 09:45

I did mine last night and it looks fabulous this morning. Very straight and shiny and soft.

It did take quite a while and I was convinced that all the goop would make my hair majorly greasy and would never dry properly but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. As I said, blowdrying and straightening did take a while as my hair is thick and long but it was doable. Got DP to apply the keratin formula for me - not sure I would have done this myself round the back especially.

Angel I think the idea is that the high heat from blowdrying and straightening is what bonds the keratin to the hair, so if you just leave the keratin in it'd be like a normal conditoning treatment but would not have a noticeable straightening/defrizzing effect (ie a waste of £25!)

Will report back with progress on Monday when it's washed out.

Angel786 · 14/10/2011 11:02

Thanks Loulou so I have let it dry naturally - it is better than before but not completely frizz free.

The waves are reduced and there is less frizz but I would still need to style it (blow dry / straighten) so all in all am not sure it was worth the salon fees / whether I would do it again Confused

louloubellamozzarella · 14/10/2011 11:19

Angel I think I might have misunderstood your previous post... did you mean you washed it out after you'd had the full treatment at the salon (ie they'd applied, dried and straightened)?

If so then I am thinking that you should only need to do minimal styling as the treatment should clear up most frizz but I guess this depends on your hair and how straight it was to begin with.

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 14/10/2011 13:00

angel after I had mine done we went to Egypt a few weeks later, I never dried my hair once, left it to dry naturally andit was lovely. Dried in waves - sort of like beach hair style but without me actually having to do anything! No frizz, no nothing.

If you arent happy then contact the salon, especiallyas you paid extra for more keratin. Sad

Angel786 · 14/10/2011 15:28

Thanks both. I'll take a look again in the morning / after the next wash and see if it is not as frizz free as it seems. Might be that I had higher expectations! It seems to be frizzier on one side (the thicker side) which they did last so perhaps they were running thin on keratin even though I had an extra 2oz.

I think I expected it to be a little sleeker / less frizzy (although not straight as it's naturally wavy) than it was after I washed it (first wash after the salon dried and straightened it).

ScaredKittyWitchyKitty · 16/10/2011 16:33

I noticed another home straightening product in Boots yesterday, from Charles Worthington. I had a sneaky read of the instructions and you don't need to dry and straighten it with the product on - the process is more like doing a colour where you apply it, wait so long, then wash it off. Think it might be better for people with hair that's not too badly behaved to start with, but I'll definitely need the one the OP linked to.

CrispyHedgehog · 16/10/2011 19:07

Kitty, I think fergoose further upthread tried that one and was very disappointed with it.

Three weeks on and my hair is still swishy and glossy, dp says it looks like a shampoo commercial, lol. I did have very tight curls and they are looser, frizz is gone and it's just so easy to manage.. I love it.

I got far better results with the home treatment than I did in the salon.

Thanks Crispy, I didn't realise it had already been mentioned. It didn't look as good as the one you used tbh. I have curly hair but it's very frizzy so think it'll be ideal for me. I've just coloured my hair so I'm going to buy the straightening product off Amazon when I get paid and do it at the end of the month. Will update then!

CrispyHedgehog · 16/10/2011 21:19

If you look at my posts on this thread on one of them is a link to buy direct from the site, I think it's a couple quid cheaper.

My hair is very very curly and now it's much looser, not frizzy at all. I can comb it with a nit comb!! as a fellow curly you'll know how amazing that is, lol

I've just bought this treatment and was wondering if you were all still happy with the results?

Also I notice that they no longer recommend the Tresemme Shampoo, its an Organix one now. Has anyone used this or are there any other brands worth trying?

Thanks

hoke74 · 08/03/2012 18:51

I used the Organix 30 day treatment and it lasted about a week but then even though it is frizzier now it is more manageable...... but then I wash my hair every day. I also went and bought the Organix Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner but after a week of using it... I have come out in a really itchy rash on my arms, back, chest and legs. GP says it looks like an allergic reaction and the only thing I can think of that I have changed is the shampoo and conditioner... which I use in the bath so my body would have been exposed to it.

Has anyone else had a reaction to any of these types of Keratin shampoo? - I did google it and apparently Keratin can block the hair follicle????

I've just stopped using the shampoo so my hair will turn back into complete frizz but the rash is so bad that I'd rather be itch free with fizzy hair!

I have just used the Brazilian Hair Straightening Kit

OMG, I wan't to dance with joy.

My hair looks amazing. I am so delighted. from frizz ball to sleek and swishy.

Now, how to keep it dry till Sunday......

CrispyHedgehog · 21/03/2012 11:14

I love this stuff.. I'm about to do it again.

It's fab, lasted 5 months! I used the tresemme all the way through too with no issues, so I reckon it's fine to keep using that.

Katie, if it does get a bit wet, dry it asap and run the straighteners through it - it will be fine.

KatieScarlett2833 · 21/03/2012 15:35

I made it till Sunday by the judacious useage of the MN scarf then becoming the MN head scarf Crispy

I'm most def. doing this again too.

CrispyHedgehog · 21/03/2012 18:05

Fabulous aint it.. I can't believe it's lasted 5 months!

I got 4 out of the salon version, when they said it would last for 6-9.

I can't wait for it to arrive, I'd forgotten how annoying my hair is, lol.
