Keratin/Brazilian Blow Dry

I got this on Amazon and a friend helped me do it last week. It was a faff - lot of blowdrying and straightening.. probably took about 3 hours in all but it was sooo worth it!!!

My waist length scarecrow frizz is now sleek and glossy.. it looks like I've done it with the big hair but I haven't... it's fantastic!!! I would even go so far as to say that it looks better than when I had it done in the salon for nearly £200.

I reckon I could have done it by myself but it would have taken me a lot longer and I might not have got the back done so well but omg I can't rave about this stuff enough!!!

Right, 3 days gone by so I'm about to wash it out ladies! And do a quick rough-dry. Will let you know if the curl/wave holds, and how it looks and feels. Wish me luck!

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 08/10/2011 10:53

I have had this done in a salon twice now and I love it. I have wavy hair, and lots of it! It really makes a huge difference to frizziness.

Tatty and others who have tried the home kit, very interested in how you find it.

In the past I have used OSMO shampoo for colour treated hair. Bought online, not expensive. This time I bought the Copolla keratin shampoo and conditioner.

TattyDevine · 08/10/2011 11:16

Right, all washed out. The curl did not hold. I wasn't really expecting it to - my hair is stubbornly straight. But that's okay. I am absolutely amazed at the feel and condition of my hair. It is soft as anything and so supple and elastic and sleek and gorgeous. Its an absolute get-out-of-jail-free card if you've got overprocessed hair. Fantastic. It has replenished what oil treatments and conditioning treatments were not able to.

Highly recommend this product! I will definitely be using this again.

Angel786 · 08/10/2011 16:58

I've seen a few ppl mention shampoos. Any recommendations? Salon brand was 50 quid, thought I'd prob be able to get sth much cheaper online!

I had it done in salon today after a groupon deal. Looks good so far - just like it's been straightened. Naturally have v thick wavy hair, hopefully the frizz will reduce.

fergoose · 08/10/2011 17:58

I tried this the other day, did the 48 hour patch test and then applied to hair and I had an awful reaction. Eyes streaming and sore, scalp on fire. Had to wash it off pretty sharpish. It is very strongly perfumed which I guess is to hide the chemical smell maybe?

I followed all instructions to the letter, well ventilated area, keeping away from roots etc, but to be honest it frightened me, and looking online it seems quite a few others have suffered the same reaction.

Anyway, just be careful if you use it, and a safe skin test doesn't always mean you won't get a reaction. I have never had a reaction to anything before, so it must be pretty strong stuff. i have chucked my leftovers in the bin!

TattyDevine · 08/10/2011 18:24

Tresseme Naturals shampoo is legal, but I used "Milkshake" stuff that i had, which happens to be salt free (Sodium Chloride free) - this

Fergoose that's interesting. I found my eyes felt slightly sensitised (not as bad as chopping onions or anything like that though) and my throat felt a bit weird till I remembered not to inhale it too closely but it was fine.

I love my hair! Its so soft and sleek. I kid you not its as soft and silky as my 2 year old daughters! I made DH compare Blush

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 08/10/2011 19:21

angel can I ask where you got it done? And do you know what sort of keratin treatment they used? The first time I had no idea - but it smelled like Chocolate which was nice.
Second time I got loads of information about it, the salon used Coppolla keratin stuff and the shampoo and conditioner was £50, but it has lasted until now and I got it done in July.

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 08/10/2011 20:39

I got mine done on Weds but I'm going to wash it tomorrow, its been a long busy day and I'm a minger! Tbh it feels ok today, first two days after having it done my hair looked great but felt yuk. Maybe I will never wash my hair again!

The salon used La Brasilia, and I got the shampoo, conditioner and style and finish (like a serum) from the same range.

I will report back if I ever wash my hair.

TattyDevine · 08/10/2011 21:06

It becomes self-cleansing after a while, just pick the baked beans and crisp crumbs out if it from time to time Grin

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 08/10/2011 21:13

Tatty yes, my dc have not been allowed to touch me since Weds. Living in Scotland makes avoiding the rain pretty difficult though.

AmberLeaf · 08/10/2011 21:23

You are all mad!

Its no good for your hair at all!

Just embrace your curls/frizz/whatever!

AmberLeaf

TattyDevine · 08/10/2011 21:34

Lol, its a protein conditioning treatment, how can it be bad for your hair? Grin

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 08/10/2011 22:00

amberleaf it doesnt straighten hair, it removes frizz. I am happy having curly/wavy hair, but I hate it doubling in size the second the humidity rises!

It gets straightened at the salon/home as the heat seals the treatment into the hair and adds to the process.

madhousewife · 08/10/2011 22:15

i'm desperate to try this but I'm very worried about what's going to happen when I sleep. I always wake up with my hair like a bird's nest, won't those kinks stay in my hair if they are in there all night?

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 08/10/2011 22:35

mad you just re straighten your hair in the morning again. The more you add heat the better it 'takes'

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 08/10/2011 23:36

Mad I had that worry too. The first morning I woke up with some serious kinky bits Grin the second morning I had a a great big bumpy bit on the top left of my head from where I'd been lying and this morning I woke up with my hair perfectly straight and sleek.

Like witches said, the more you straighten it or apply heat, the better it seals in to the hair.

madhousewife · 09/10/2011 07:30

Thanks for that advice! I'll report back after I give it a go.

TattyDevine · 09/10/2011 09:27

You needn't worry about kinks I don't think as long as you then straighten them. If you bear in mind that I actually curled my hair with the treatment in and wore it up with a crocodile clip for 3 days, then when I washed it it was straight and sleek...even a heat-made kink didn't stay on me. So I guess if you are working against nature and want your curls to go straight then do worry about kinks but honestly I think the main thing is its back to "straight" before you wash it for the first time.

Alouiseg · 09/10/2011 10:20

TattyDevine. How would you feel about doing mine for me?

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 09/10/2011 11:23

I'm going to wash mine now, I've just straightened it first. Dc think I've lost the plot, doing my hair to get in the shower!

ScaredKittyWitchyKitty · 09/10/2011 21:50

Right, I don't get this. It's supposedly a straightening conditioning treatment, yet someone a few posts back said it doesn't straighten the hair, just takes the frizz out?! Yet the before and after pics on that site show someone with curly hair and it's bang straight after treatment.

I've got curly hair that tends to be quite frizzy and I would like to keep the curl but get rid of the frizz. Would it do that? Or would it actually go straight?

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 09/10/2011 21:54

it only goes straight once the treatment is put on as it needs the heat from straighteners to seal the stuff in. Then 4 days later you wash your hair and if it is naturally curly it will go back to that - minus the frizz.

IT is NOT a permanent straightening solution. its more to smooth, heres a link to one of the treatments I have had done.

Angel786 · 10/10/2011 09:52

witches I got a deL through groupon for gf salons in London, it cost 69 for a nano keratin treatment and cut. Stylist was a kittle rough with me and the chemicals made my eyes water but so far looks good. Guess I will see for sure oboe I've washed it as my hair is v frizzy as it's been bleached within an inch of it's life!

They said it's def not to straighten but to remove frizz. My hair is naturally wAvy so we'll see if frizz free!

Have bought the Coppola shampoo and conditioner too for 15 quid than the salon alternative.

TattyDevine · 10/10/2011 10:12

Alouise - yeah I reckon I could! I'm doing one of my friends this Thursday. In theory it should be even easier to do on someone else than on yourself if that makes sense!
