Keratin/Brazilian Blow Dry

I got this on Amazon and a friend helped me do it last week. It was a faff - lot of blowdrying and straightening.. probably took about 3 hours in all but it was sooo worth it!!!

My waist length scarecrow frizz is now sleek and glossy.. it looks like I've done it with the big hair but I haven't... it's fantastic!!! I would even go so far as to say that it looks better than when I had it done in the salon for nearly £200.

I reckon I could have done it by myself but it would have taken me a lot longer and I might not have got the back done so well but omg I can't rave about this stuff enough!!!

Just bought one of these after reading all your positive comments. Looking forward to giving it a whirl. Really hope it bans my frizz.

Just a quick question re application and blowdrying.. is it easy-ish to do for someone who's not great at blowdrying their hair? I don't do mine often as my hair is fairly long and really thick. I can do it but I'm by no means great at it. Would I be better off roping in a friend or does the treatment make hair slightly more manageable?

TattyDevine · 10/10/2011 11:29

To be honest I don't think the blow dry bit is that important, as long as it is thoroughly dried in sections. It doesn't really matter if it sits right or is completely straight or whatever because you then straighten small sections 7 times over. This takes care of any inadequacies in the blow dry. As long as its properly dry.

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 10/10/2011 12:41

angel I got mine done (2nd time) in the Charlotte St branch. The girl washing my hair to clarify it was horrendous! I have never had such a rough hair wash ever! And it seemed to go on forever.

The lovely girl who did my treatment was gentle. Grin Thank God, I was almost traumatised after the hairwash part.

It has lasted well in my hair, they gave me half price colour things and half price keratin treatment vouchers for next time, but I will probably just wait for a groupon deal again too.

Did you meet the owner?

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 10/10/2011 12:42

Think I might give the Amazon one a shot doing it myself, or I might take it to my hairdressers and see if they will do it for me.

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 10/10/2011 14:20

I've washed mine this morning, was in a rush so blasted with the hairdryer then used straighteners on top layers. Looked great, all shiny and swishy.

Did school run in drizzly rain (normally a recipe for disaster for my hair) went shopping, went to work, came home and its still all shiny and swishy!

It didn't keep its completely straight style, did use the irons very quickly though. But it stayed smooth and frizz free.

I will do the Amazon one myself next time.
Am a bit annoyed though as now have a drawer full of (salty) hair products that I can't use. Oh well Grin

Angel786 · 10/10/2011 15:57

witches that's where I was too! The groupon deal works out about 20 quid cheaper than the vouchers they gave.

Never had my hair yanked so much - could've cried! But the staff were all v friendly. Was the owner a middle aged man?

They were all v kind - would recommend / go back.

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 10/10/2011 16:02

yes they were all nice/kind etc - the owner was a man, Italianish looking, late 40's, v pointy prada type shoes.

Angel786 · 10/10/2011 17:25

ah yes - I think he was there. V kind - (I forgot my wallet and had to pay for extra keratin!) let me pay over the phone when I got home Blush. Was mortified to have left wallet in changing bag!

ScaredKittyWitchyKitty · 10/10/2011 19:05

Oooh, if it will tame my frizzy curls then I think I'll give it a go! What shampoo and conditioner do I need to use afterwards? Someone upthread mentioned Tresemme Naturals, would that be ok?

Also, I want to put a semi permanent colour on my hair. Am I best doing that first, then the straightening thing a week or so later, or do the straightening first and the colour after?

TattyDevine · 10/10/2011 19:21

Do the colour first.

Tresseme Naturals is probably the cheapest most easily available "legal" shampoo and conditioner, but if you want some "nice" stuff and like nice high end type stuff there are some you can use as well

ScaredKittyWitchyKitty · 10/10/2011 21:02

I'll do the colour this week then as I've already bought it, then maybe do the keratin thing the week after as I'll need to order it.

What other shampoos and conditioners could I invest in Tatty, bearing in mind I've got curly hair?

redglow · 10/10/2011 21:10

I had a brazilian blow dry a month ago and have now run out of the shampoo and conditioner they gave me. If I start using ordinary shampoo will this make the blow dry not last?

hesaysyayisaynay · 10/10/2011 21:58

Has anyone found their hair is getting very greasy just a day or two after washing it after having the Brazilian done? What can I do about this?

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 11/10/2011 00:30

Hesay I've only just washed mine today so don't know about greasy feeling yet, but maybe its the change in shampoo that is causing it? Tatty will know what to do.

louloubellamozzarella · 11/10/2011 09:27

Thanks Tatty, I'll stoke up the GHDs then Grin. Looking forward to trying it out. My hair is being very badly behaved at the moment and needs whipping into shape.

Angel786 · 11/10/2011 09:48

scaredy the salons say wait 2 weeks after colouring before keratin and vice versa....

red glow if you use shampoo with salt and sulphate that can strip out the treatment. Boots do an organix keratin shampoo and conditioner, otherwise ibought Coppola keratin stuff online cheaper than in salons.

redglow · 11/10/2011 19:32

Thanks angel I will go in boots tomorrow and get some.

Angel786 · 11/10/2011 21:09

this is the one :-)

redglow · 11/10/2011 21:45

Thanks thats a lot cheaper than the stuff that they gave me.

louloubellamozzarella · 12/10/2011 09:13

Tresemme naturals are on BOGOF at Boots at the moment in case anyone's looking for these :)

louloubellamozzarella · 12/10/2011 09:15

Hmph, just been reading up on Tresemme naturals. Apparently the range isn't suphate free, but low in sulphates... is this ok or would it be better to get products which are completely sulphate free, does anyone know?

AmberLeaf · 12/10/2011 14:16

Has anyone here that has used this sort of product got really curly hair?

Ive read some comments online that say its removed their curls as well as the frizz.

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 12/10/2011 17:43

never known it to remove curls, that isnt what it is for. just frizzy mops.

It isnt so much the sulphates that is the problem it is the salt in shampoo that strips out the treatment.

The salon said either to colour hair same day as treatment (in salon) or two weeks after treatment. As I had mine coloured a couple of weeks pre keratin thingy it was fine.

I have used Weleda shampoo and also OSMO osmo

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 12/10/2011 17:43

and this time with the keratin shampoo and conditioner I do find my hair getting greasy on the second day after washing. Sad

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 12/10/2011 18:52

Mine has felt a bit greasy as well, washed it on Mon, it needed done again on tues but I thought it might be the serum to blame so used less on tues after washing my hair. I didn't wash it today, if I had more time this morning I probably would've washed it again but it has been fine after styling.

Maybe that's just what well conditioned hair feels like? It's been a while so ...Grin
