Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

1028 replies

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

OP posts:

Arfur You can get some tester kits/starter kits for very little - but before you part with ANY of your coin you need to go and see an orange lady, really...

If you are dry and a bit lined it might not be for you BUT I suspect an orange lady would say with correct priming and application it'd be perfect. You don't know until you've tried, I guess

CAN I JUST ADD that it is definitely better for my skin than all the gloop I was using before. I have far fewer spots and blackheads and less red bits. DEFINITELY.

hester · 05/10/2011 10:21

Jodie, my thread is going nowhere, but I looked up on some review websites and the consensus seems to be:

Load of old shite.

I will not be bothering Nanoblur with my custom.

hester · 05/10/2011 10:23

Arfur, I am a dry wrinkly 40something. Do not be discouraged Grin

PS. I have found the very solution to lines and wrinkles is to get fat. Works a dream. No, no need to thank me for sharing.

bootus · 05/10/2011 10:23

ok.....so Ive been convince to buy some. BE experts...I am sallow skinned, tan v easily but havent seen the sun for months so am pale and unhealthy looking at present. Mousy hair, blue eyes...what shade d'ya reckon????

GetOrfMo1Land · 05/10/2011 10:23

Arfur I have dry skin and I am not really convinced. You have to be very, very careful and light with application otherwise you will look parchment skinned.

It has started to look okay but a better effect can be had with other liquid foundations tbh. The best thing about it is that it is obviously made with withstand nuclear attack and lasts all day.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 10:24

Oh What an arse. Since the whole Protect & Perfect thing I've tended to believe everything Boots does....

hester · 05/10/2011 10:26

I misled you, Jodie. I thought it was Boots own brand, but it's actually an American import.

ArfurBrain · 05/10/2011 10:28

hester, i am trying out (inadvertently!) that very solution. unfortunately i still have wrinkles and laughter lines. You should see how wrinkle free my hefty arse is now I have gained 2 stone though Hmm

I don't hjave dry skin per se. it's pretty normal. just ...well...old.

oh and i was one of the 3 per cent of people for whom perfect and protect brought out in a frickin' rash round the mouth and nose. very attractive it was.

hester · 05/10/2011 10:32

Ah, unfortunate. I am the only person I know not to rave about YSL Touche Eclat. It literally brought me out in scabby eczema everywhere I used it - yes, that's brown scabs all round my eyes, and round my nostrils. A charming look.

Two years later I thought, "It must have been a coincidence" and tried again. Same result.

meltedchocolate · 05/10/2011 10:33

Envy Am I to understand Jodie, that you have just been given loads of FREE stuff from BE for this thread?? Envy Envy Envy

Poor cyb, she was the one that got me to buy it :o :o

Jux · 05/10/2011 10:35

I'm 53, Arfur, and look slightly considerably younger [who am I kidding emoticon goes here]. The BE stuff does help, and it does cover my awful thread veins if I apply it right; however, there is no doubt that the primer makes a big difference. I had to go without for a few days as the starter kit I got only included a little sachet of the stuff, and the order I placed for a bottle only got here yesterday, but TODAY I HAVE PRIMER AND WILL LOOK BEAUTEOUS AND GORGEOUS AND ALL THINGS WONDERFUL!!!

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 10:39

You unnerstand correctly Melted and I honestly honestly cannot believe my luck. So much good stuff has happened this month that I feel the moon is doing something funny. I shall be boffing DH with more than usual enthusiasm, convinced this is the month I finally get up the bloody spout Hmm

Hurrah for Jux and her smoothly plumptious cheeks Grin

hester · 05/10/2011 10:46

This stuff is really getting under my skin (as well as on it). Am I the only one who watched George Osbourne on the news last night and thought, "I bet he's wearing mineral powder"?

Jux, I think I will cave in and order some BE primer. Ignoring the three nearly full tubes of primer I already have at home.

ArfurBrain · 05/10/2011 10:49

Primer? What is all this talk of primer? The last time i bought primer was for repainting my kitchen tiles. And that didn't work either.
And as for buffing?

So:

I will spend a million pounds,
I will have to watch crap you tube vids
I will spend hours buffing something
I will probably get spots anyway
My children, who have only just remembered who I am after coming out of a 7-year mumsnet orgy, will lose me all over again as i am carted off to the poorhouse, still buffing and screeching: ''jodieharsh made me do it...!''

I'm going off this idea a bit.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 10:49

Him and his stupid fat nose. His nose has bum-cleavage right at the end: it freaks me the heck out.

Ach, to be sure, go for it. Might as well be hanged for a sheep as for a lamb.

MissIngaFewmarbles · 05/10/2011 10:50

i have bought the 3.50 sample, thanks to whoever suggested it :)

valiumredhead · 05/10/2011 11:04

Jodie - make another thread please! I like chatting shit discussing beauty products with all you ladies Grin

valiumredhead · 05/10/2011 11:05

WRT to BBBH - I think I am going to get it - I can take it back to Argos if it doesn't work on my hair. I shall be very impressed if it's ok as my hair needs a lot of taming!

fannybanjo · 05/10/2011 11:06

Hester my friend also told me I look tired yesterday and I always never look rough.... Grin that's when I realised fairly light was draining me.

MissIngaFewmarbles · 05/10/2011 11:12

I did think the lightwas a bit too light, what's the next darkest?

Pinot · 05/10/2011 11:14

I'm using any old primer that is hanging about in my drawer.

Things I've learnt today - it works well on oily skin if you do a light cover of veil first. That really helped the first cover of foundation buff on lightly. Use biggest brush for first coat. For second coat, use medium brush and concentrate more on centre of my face where I need coverage (T zone). The used bisque to cover undereye circles and a blemish. Then used big brush to do a 3 on each side with warmth and an all over cover of veil.

I love this stuff more and more every day. It works with the oils on your skin, not against them. And it lasts and lasts - all I do is re-buff before school pickyup time (no more product just a buff) and I'm flawless from 7am to 11pm.

I feel almost overwhelmed at how much better I look compared to recent years. It's actually a bit WOW. Genuinely.

Pinot · 05/10/2011 11:16

Oh val you must get the BBH - it's just as amazing as BE (nearly). It leaves hair all swishy, like the Timotei ads from the 80's.

Dillydollydaydream · 05/10/2011 11:18

I'm on day 2 of BE and I'm really liking it!
I haven't watched the DVD cant be bothered is it necessary, any marvellous tips on there I'll need to see?
My skin looks really good, doesn't look made up at all, can still see my few freckles on my nose. I use the denser brush where I wan more coverage but like less coverage on my nose as I find it looks more natural. I love how you can vary the coverage by using the different brushes. I found I didn't even need the concealer, the foundation works absolutely fine on redder areas with the concealer brush.
Very impressed!
Glad I saw this thread :)

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 11:18

Just to clarify: I am up for ANY AND ALL SNOGGING, AT ANY TIME OF DAY OR NIGHT Grin

I have to fess up to having a very slightly cakey nose. This is what comes of hurried buffing in poor lighting whilst a new bed is being delivered and one is not fully awake yet Hmm

I do think BE is far more skilled work than normal make-up but the pay off is mahooooooosive. But ain't that always the case. The Sistine Chapel ceiling took longer than the graffiti on the South Bank, but looks better and will last longer

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 11:20

Yay Dilly - and my, don't you look well Grin

I reckon the DVD is worth sitting through (I watched a YouTube vid) simply because the application is the key, but if you've already got the hang of it I say fuck it, watch Embarrassing Arses on 4OD instead
