Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

1028 replies

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

OP posts:
cyb · 04/10/2011 19:48

STILL LOVE MINE

But mine looks better when I put warmth on afterwards, did mix with foundation but now not so impressed

I just love its staying power. Makes my eye make up stay on all day

Silver66 · 04/10/2011 19:48

Oh Oh Oh if you've still got them I would love them - I've ordered medium and I'm sure it's going to be too dark - still bloody waiting for it to arrive though...............................

Silver66 · 04/10/2011 19:49

that was meant for Fanjo ..........................

Silver66 · 04/10/2011 19:51

oops - so excited I didn't read back Grin

Pinot · 04/10/2011 19:56

I love the warmth - in the shape of a 3 like cyb said. Love it. I put the foundation all over my face, incl eyes and lashes.

Sooooo glad you're coming round to the dark side GetOrf :) I read you should buff each layer you apply for the length of time it takes you to sing Happy Birthday all the way through TWICE. Softly softly swirly swirly etc

Jux · 04/10/2011 19:59

I got my Primer today hooray!!!! Have been doing without as the tiny tiny sachet of primer I got ran out on the second day.

However, I wore NO MAKE UP AT ALL today Shock, but I've been ill and haven't even got dressed.

Am really looking forward to doing myself up again tomorrow with the primer. It seems to work better on me with that stuff. Ridiculous to get so excited about the putting on of make up. Are we all mad? Is there something embedded in our computers or this thread which has bewitched us? Is BE taking over the world? There will be paragraphs about this thread post-apocalypse!

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 21:36

Hurrah, more beautifully-complexioned sheep Grin

Full day at work, 2 mile walk, music rehearsal, journey home, still got a lovely face. I am STILL not over it and EVER SO VERY SLIGHTLY PISSING MYSELF WITH EXCITEMENT about by BE 'gift' even if it is just a bottle of brush shampoo.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 04/10/2011 21:36

Ok, so having just read the last few posts - how do you buff yours? :) I've been buffing furiously as I thought that was how you're meant to. But now I'm wondering if it should be done in a more gentle manner?

I'm struggling to achieve the flawless perfection Jodie promised, is my over-enthusiastic buffing to blame?

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 21:40

I was way too overenthusiastic this morn, Grape, and also put too much primer on, so got the dreaded cake face. wiped it off and began again.

i think (for me) it has required a bit of a re-think of how makeup works. I'm so used to thinking cover it cover it COVER IT that I can't get my head round the fact it's so strong you just need an almost invisible amount.

Honestly, it's stroking as much as buffing. But then - maybe you're just someone it doesn't suit? It's impossible it suits everyone unless my initial suspicions were correct and Beelzebub is indeed personally overseeing the production line Grin

meltedchocolate · 04/10/2011 21:46

Hellooooo :) Still loving my BE. There is deffo a knack to doing it and still experimenting a fair bit. I think I need to do BIG circles when I buff because otherwise I seem to get a cake face.

Tried to convince mum (49) to let me do hers but she turned her nose up and said 'melted, look at me, I am not faffing around with makeup' :( I wish she took more pride in her appearence. She looked like Princess Di when she was my age... Sigh

Hope everyone is well :)

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 21:49

Hi Melted - looking REEM* I see....

Your Mum is not putting makeup on at 49 Shock FORCE HER TO AN ORANGE LADY FGS!

*Not entirely sure this is correct usage Grin

meltedchocolate · 04/10/2011 21:52

I think??? it is... and right back atchya Wink

She does wear a little make up but it was a Saturday and she sticks around the house doing chores on a Sat. I just wanted to show her how pretty it was but I think she would be horrified at the cost. She is a Yorkshire lass :o

hester · 04/10/2011 21:54

Do y'all think the BE primer makes a difference, or should I just stick with my usual primer (from M&S!)

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 21:56

I reckon primer's primer's primer's primer's primer, myself. But I am speaking out of a natural tendency to thrift rather than experience....

Ach well, even I would abandon the BE for household chores mostly because I only do it once every 6 months

PeriPathetic · 04/10/2011 21:59

Ooh! After about an hour faffing around with my stoopid credit card I've now put in an order Grin

btw, there's a £4 off voucher code for Feelunique (when you spend over £40) - AUTUMNSUN

That helped a little, especially as I got a bit carried away with smellies Confused

Now to wait a couple of weeks for delivery. Humph.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 22:09

A couple of weeks?! Oh Peri!

And then you'll be PeripaFABULOUS

hester · 04/10/2011 22:28

I ordered my lololily stuff last night and apparently it has already despatched. Just saying...

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 09:01

hester I rather think we need a scientiffic assessment of their comparative qualities please. Half your head in BE and half your head in Lolo, and a thesis on respective benefits...

MEANWHILE MY PACKAGE HAS ARRIVED!!1!!!!1!!! Grin

Arrived at my desk to an overexcited call from DH, who begged to be able to open it (he is showing a worrying interest in this stuff). I said he could open it but only a) tell me HOW MUCH STUFF was in there and b) he had to wrap it up again perfectly so that I could have the pleasure of opening it.

THERE IS SHEDLOADS apparently

I would chuck a sickie and immediately go home but alas, alas, BE has seen to it that I look in the very pink or rosy-cheeked health Grin Hmm

hester · 05/10/2011 09:05

Oh Jodie, you need to throw a BE party Grin [pathetic angling for invite emoticon]

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 09:06
Grin

I do vow and declare that anything that doesn't suit me/is the wrong colour will get despatched courtesy of Royal Mail to fellow sheep Grin

I might also post a picture of the contents in a really, really quite hideously gloaty fashion

valiumredhead · 05/10/2011 09:13

Shedloads! Envy Wink

Ladies - off topic but I trust you lot - tell me about Babyliss big hair - worth it? I have Argos vouchers burning a hole in my pocket! Grin

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 09:14

Oooo, I'll be listening, re. Babyliss - I've wondered about that. I was using hot curling tong thingies (also Babyliss) but was ending up with breakages Sad.

I'll be sure to ask you if there's something going spare val :)

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 05/10/2011 09:15

(ask if you want it I mean. Disgraceful sentence construction, sorry!)

OhThisIsJustGrape · 05/10/2011 09:21

Ooh Jodie, wonder what's in there?

Babyliss Big Hair is fab, unfortunately mine now longer works :( I've only used it a handful of times too. No receipt as it was a gift so not sure if I have any chance of a replacement but I'm extremely peeved about it. Anyway, it's like having your hair professionally blow dried, I've never seemed to have quite enough hands to achieve that look myself - until the arrival of my Big Hair.

CristinadellaPizza · 05/10/2011 09:23

Please post a pic Jodie!

Re BigHair - yes, it's v good. Much better than irons/tongs because the air blows through the brush rather than being hot metal. When I can be bothered to use it (which is not often because I'm spectacularly lazy), my hair always looks fab. MmeL is the one to talk to about the BigHair, it was she who lured convinced me.
