Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

1028 replies

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

Good morning sheep ladies, and may I say how quite remarkably well you all look this morning? You hear that? ....... That's the sound of my breath being taken away Grin

Hurrah for everyone feeling gawge. My meeting went weller than I had dreamed of, and once again that now-familiar remark, "I must say you look ever so well." It's getting outright spooky.

Also, I must needs have a Hot Photo taken in the next week or so and you can betcha bottom shilling I'll be radiantly lovely in it. Shame BE can't do anything about the extra 3 stone I'm hefting about Hmm

Snape et. al. you are all so lovely Blush

MissV I've been using the Prime Time thingammyjig that comes with it. I haven't actually tried it without primer yet, but might just for shits and giggles, as they say.

Right off, to stalk Mme Lindor read MmeLindor's blog ...

StuntCubble · 01/10/2011 09:13

Need this but am confused can someone tell me exactly what I need to buy please?

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 01/10/2011 09:26

Hey Stunt - well, it kinda depends what you're after. I think most of us have bought the Starter Kit, which is the one for complexion perfexion (see what I did there?). It's got 2 kinds of foundation (you need to chose whether you have a light/medium/dark kit, then it gives you 2 shades to work with), 'warmth', which is a shaping bronzer, and mineral veil (a very very fine loose powder), and a set of brushes. You can get it in major dept stores, but QVC sell it and I think poeple have mentioned various cheaper sites upthread.

there are other kits - I've got the eyes, lips and cheeks one - which I really recommend if you are totally overhauling your look!

brassick · 01/10/2011 10:15

Morning!

I have been following this thread from the start, and [sheep] am keen to join the cult of the swirl-tap-buff.

Luckily it's my birthday next week, and the collection at work generally comes to enough to cover a starter kit! So I have subtly nudged my friend in the direction of one of the websites selling the miraculous miracle potion and will be swirl-tap-buffing away like a good 'un as soon as I turn 42

Thanks Thanks for introducing me to this - I hope it lives up to the hype!

StuntCubble · 01/10/2011 13:31

Thanks Jodie so is this the starter kit I need?

AmazingDisgrace · 01/10/2011 13:51

MissVerinder did you let the BB cream really set first? I put the BB cream on then potter about doing other stuff for 10 mins until it is no longer tacky to the touch then a very very light swirltapbuff of BM

DollyTwat · 01/10/2011 15:22

Mine arrived yesterday and I had a little play
Not seeing the miracle transformation I was promised yet
The concealer didn't do much for me
I must be doing something wrong?

DollyTwat · 01/10/2011 15:34

I'm watching the DVD
I didn't do it right
I'll be back

emilyofnewmoon · 01/10/2011 15:34

Read some of this thread and trotted off to Debenhams to buy some. Got the sales girl to put some on me but stupidly didnt have a really good look in the mirror afterwards. Splashed out £86 on starter set, some cream and some blusher but now I am home and have had a good look at myself I am not pleased. I think it makes my wrinkles and pores more obvious. Plus my face is feeling slightly burny and itchy. Am so gutted as never spend that much on make up normally but reading this thread thought it sounded wonderful. Sad
Anyone else had problems with itching etc?

valiumredhead · 01/10/2011 15:36

emily it contains talc and bismouth which is a common irritant. I would take it back personally if it was from Debenhams. I did similar with a powder from Clinique and they were fine and refunded me. Good luck.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 01/10/2011 15:44

Hope it goes well with the reapplication Dolly...

Gosh that's disappointing Emily Sad I hope you get a refund (and I'm sure you will) - I guess there must be some skins out there it just doesn't suit. Is everything unopened still?

DollyTwat · 01/10/2011 16:00

Ok now I've done it properly and know what each thing is I can report back, but it's probably worth mentioning that I hardly ever wear foundation

It has given me good coverage and have even used some warmth for a glow, but I think the overall look is too powdery for me
The bisque is awful for me as a concealer, I really look like an old lady who's put eyeshadow under her eyes, but it's nice as an eyeshadow base

I do like the primer stuff so might get some of that

So, it's ok, but I think I prefer a glowing slightly shiny complexion!

sabas · 01/10/2011 16:04

Do any of you ladies raving about BE have asian (indian/pakistani) skin? Havent tried it but am unsure if it will help my rubbish skin which has dark pigmentaion marks Confused

I am reluctant to go into town with no make up on to visit an orange lady unless I know that it could be for me Grin

valiumredhead · 01/10/2011 16:07

Orange lady will remove your make up and then apply it sabas. I would NEVER go into town to visit orange lady without my make up - I know how you feel! Grin

trixymalixy · 01/10/2011 16:16

Hmm, just had mine done by an orange lady. I thnk it accentuates my open pores and fine lines. I have bought a tester kit and will try again.

I thnk I thought my skin would look like the girl who did mine's it was totally flawless :-(

She was asian btw sabas and I'm assuming she was wearing BE given she was trying to flog it!!

sabas · 01/10/2011 16:23

Maybe it is time for me to go to Debenhhams in Glasgow town then....... Smile

Although, in the quest for the holy grail of foundation and after trying all the raved about products (MAC, EL, BB Lancome), I have rediscovered Revlon Colourstay and think that with my MAC mineralise powder, its actually quite nice, not caked just nicely even and glowy Grin. DH agrees although I did have to elicit this info, he never volunteered it!

But I don't think I can not try it and miss out!

brighthair · 01/10/2011 18:09

This thread has a lot to answer for Angry
Got home, quick BE top up, blush etc and nip to shop before going out
Have to return home as shop keeper refuses cigs and demands ID
I'm nearly 28...,, Blush

emilyofnewmoon · 01/10/2011 18:16

Everything still sealed so should get money back but where to go from here? Am on mission now for perfect make up. I want flawless, glowing skin! Maybe too much to ask of 42 year old face? Grin

kerstina · 01/10/2011 18:54

Love it brighthair but you still are just a baby and probably beautiful skin without any makeup you will appreciate that when you get to my age Grin

OhThisIsJustGrape · 01/10/2011 19:05

On day 2 of my BE experience here... Don't feel I applied it as well today as I did yesterday. Not sure if I used too much primer or if I was a little heavy handed with the bisque but it went a little patchy on the tops of my cheeks.

Still can't get the veil right, it just takes off the concealer and I end up with blemishes showing :(

That said, 7 hours after applying, it was only just starting to get shiny. My face is usually an oil slick long before then so it's a huge improvement in that respect. A bigger bonus is that even though I went shiny, the base didn't slide off/go patchy/cake which is what I hated about every other foundation I've ever used.

Also, it didn't feel shiny iykwim, usually I feel like I'm wearing a layer of grease but BE feels invisible. It washes off so easily too, normally (due to the vast amount I needed to trowel on) my make up would need washing off with face wash and then a going over twice with cleanser on a pad. Now, it comes off completely with face wash and no orange tide mark left round the sink!

I love BE, and you Jodie Grin

GetOrfMo1Land · 01/10/2011 19:31

Hmm.

I don't like it much.

I went to Cavendish House today and a really nice orange lady spent ages applying it, and talking me through.

She kept on showing me the stages in the mirror, it looked okay, but then I am never that impressed with what orange ladies do, always get a better result putting my own make up on.

It looked allright, yes my skin looked very good (though it is clear anyway, albeit very dry) but I looked very painted lady. My idea of foundation is that you shouldn't be able to tell if you are wearing anyway (which is the effect I get from my By Terry, and to a lesser extent Teint Miracle).

I bought it anyway as I thought I would get a better result at home.

I have reapplied it after a bath and I still don't really like it, however it is dark now and I haven't got a bright light (why the hell does this house only seem to have 60w lightbulbs?) so I can't really judge. But - it still looks painted lady. Yes, flawless, but looks like I am wearing foundation, which I don't like.

The concealer is awful - really cakey.

The bronzer stuff is far too dark and brick looking and the colour just sits there (I am very pale though). The finishing veil makes no difference but just adds to the made up look.

I will give it another go tomorrow.

QuinnFabray · 01/10/2011 19:33

I agree, I was fairly shiney today, but it it was a natural kind of shine, and felt much better.

GetOrfMo1Land · 01/10/2011 19:34

Just read dolly's post - I agree with that. The foundations I usually use just give me a dewy look. The BE is far from dewy, very matte looking and powdery and looks done iyswim.

GetOrfMo1Land · 01/10/2011 19:51

The orange lady said I had flawless skin though and

StuntCubble · 01/10/2011 19:56

Will it cover my freckles? Info have good'skin but freckly and bags under eyes
