MarshaBrady · 28/09/2011 21:00

Hmm it will be 20C max then will drop at night (I predict). So... there is hope Red!

Thanks yes ds is ok but arrgh he thought bedtime was a game. Took me an hour. It takes dh 10 minutes

redllamayellowllama · 28/09/2011 21:01

Aah - DS does the same for me. He knows how to make me laugh and then I get sucked in and bedtime takes aaaaages.

IceCreamCastles · 28/09/2011 21:04

Yes red - I was counting on it being cold enough for tights and winter coat too. Lovely that your DS made such a good impression.

Ooh, I know what I was going to mention - need opinions... school has been invited to take some students to visit the Olympic village, have tour, meet athletes, see show and stay over night in London. Would absolutely love to go but trip is just over 3 weeks before my due date. I would have been fine doing this at that stage with DD but obv all pregnancies / babies different. What do you all think?

OllieinOrange · 28/09/2011 21:10

Noooooooo, not even thought about afternoon outfit looking 'wrong' for the evening!!! Crapola! i will certainly be wearing tights as legs are beyond pale!

DH and i are watching Mad Men - a girl could get paranoid about secretaries wiggling past desks.....!

fritzi had no idea about Gabor! Will avoid forthwith! Shudder! The Kew ones were lovely but heel was too high for me to run around in. Useful feedback too thanks Red.

Bloss ive said it before, you have a very lovely DH.

Have you all seen the new Thanks ? V cute!

FritziGreenEyes · 28/09/2011 21:25

ollie I think Gabor has just a bad rep as it used to be old ladies' shoes only. They now aim to be much "trendier" and there could be some treasures, you'll never know.

MarshaBrady · 28/09/2011 21:29

Icey so hard to know really. I'm trying to remember what it is like to be 3 weeks before due date. I suppose you do have to say for certain now as things will be booked. Be good if you could wait and see how you feel.

Cute flowers Ollie.

Have been a bit naughty..

Have ordered the Ash boots

www.my-wardrobe.com/ash/jess-biss-curved-zip-ankle-boot-733572

Will let you all know how I get on.

Am tempted by this skirt from Jigsaw

www.jigsaw-online.com/fashion/1001450/J14092/GN020/womens/skirts/paisley-jacquard-skirt

Oh and am quietly lusting after this bag....but I REALLY can't justify it....

www.reddirect.co.uk/p/Clearance%20Bags/BE1-07.htm

ollie I had a look at the Kew boots over the weekend. I think are right. They are too high for every day.

fritzi I have NO idea what to wear for afternoon team either and like everyone else am thrown by (a) weather and (b) finding an outfit which works for afternoon tea and cocktails. We have set ourselves quite a challenge!!!

Have just caught up on Great British Bake. Fantastic. Am rooting for Mariane or Jo.

bloss you have your DH well trained. Am well jell (TOWIE) is another guilty pleasure.

Have booked blow dry for Saturday as have school reunion. Have still not decided what to wear. It's a lunch do and obviously do not want to look like I have tried too hard...

notyummy · 28/09/2011 22:23

It's no good. I may have to bring a large handbag and get changed. Seriously!! Everything looks wrong.

Or nip back to hotel.

How can it be so hard?!

rufus101 · 28/09/2011 23:51

Am chorlting (?sp) at all the wardrobe dilemma changes!
Bloss I need your DH to come and give my DH lessons on birthday gift buying.
Just found out that a child in DS's pre school has measles. Bloody hell. Know this is probably a sensitive mumsnet topic, but children need to be immunised against these illnesses. I know far too many people with brain damage as a result. DS not due his top up of immunisation for another 6 months so he could still get it. Rant over, and hope I haven't outraged anybody.
Ollie I'm kind of with Fritzi on the Gabor, but that is because my mum wears them. It's a bit like M and S foot glove stuff though isn't it? You secretly think "oooh that looks comfy', but then secretly fear that it's the start of a slippery slope.
Right, up the wooden stairs to my leaba. (Gaelic for bed!)

AntPants1 · 29/09/2011 07:25

Rufus am with you on measles. If parents with children with no health issues do not immunise children who cant be immunised due to health issues or age, ie too young, are at risk. It's that simple. When my DD was a baby everyone had the MMR and this was never a worry for me. When my DS came along we had had the Prof Meadows scare and immunisations had dropped off. Until my DS was 13 months able to have the MMR I was on edge every time he was exposed to measles. rufus you are so right measles is a horrid illness. I think because it was not a problem for so long people have forgotten that. Can you tell you have touched a nerve!! Rant over! Rufus I hope your DS is ok.

Ambernj1 · 29/09/2011 08:52

Hello all

made big mistake yesterday - tried on purple Davina. How can one simple dress look so great? Seriously it makes me look like J.Lo (in a sexy curvy way not a fat arse way, I bring that all by myself), may be main selling point to DH.

Also went to Boden town hall sale where I bought nice silver ballerinas (as opposed to nasty ones? What a stupid thing to write!) and a polka dot swimsuit.

Am still without dress. Sigh.

rufus so with you re. Measles. I was year one for the MMR with no ill effects. My mother, having had measles and a son who had had it jumped at the chance. I think it's pretty irresponsible to say the least! Hope your DS is ok!

red people have done worse from peer pressure

cannot even consider going opaqueless, legs constantly battered and scratched [glamour emoticon] though have no idea what to wear or if I'll even make it. DD still strenuously resisting bottle.

wideawakenurse · 29/09/2011 08:57

Gahhh! I keep typing long, long posts and then losing them.

So good morning all. I'll be back later.

rufus101 · 29/09/2011 09:43

Amber you are making me want the Davina dress by tthat description! I am always on the look out for dresses that transform my rear end into J Lo proportions.
I bet she can look just as awful as I do in the wrong outfit!
Glad I havent offended anyone, but there were a number of deaths with tthe last outbreak in Dublin and working in the area I do, it breaks my heart every time I see someone who has a learning disability as a result of something which could have been prevented.
Okay, no more ranting today, and I promise to be quiet!

FritziGreenEyes · 29/09/2011 09:59

ant Lunch do for school reunion is difficult I think. Will it be a sit down at tables thing? I'm curious to hear what you have to say about the Ash boots. Colour is more brown than grey, yes?

Maybe we should get drunk at stretch teatime into the night and not worry about multi-tasking outfits so much. Everybody will look fabulous anyway Smile. Although I have also thought about taking a really big handbag with different shoes/top. But that would be a bit ridiculous and schlepping around a big bag all night is awful.

rufus Oh, I love a bit of Gaelic! Had a short romance with someone who came from Dundalk when I was an au-pair in the UK. Very very long time ago... Hope DS is ok. DD has been vaccined against MMR, chickenpox and also meningitis, pertussis (whooping cough, is that correct?), hep b, polio, tetanus and diphteria (Have just checked her vaccination booklet). It is a sensitive topic though and I know many people here too who are reluctant to have their DCs vaccined at all.

amber Purple Davina sounds gorgeous. Totally get what you want to say with "nice silver" as there really is "nasty silver" Smile.

notyummy · 29/09/2011 10:31

Liking the sound of the Davina on you Amber.

Am in a summer dress today, although was like this Hmm as I stepped out of the door in dress, bare legs and wedges into 10C and thick fog at 6 15 this morning. Sunny now though and 28c predicted later, so hopefullyt outfit will look appropriate then.

I know why we have this weather system hanging over us btw. It is because I have bought a whole load of knitwear and opaque tights. Someone up there is laughing.

Still no idea of what to wear to meet-up and no time to do much trying on last night because was still working on lap-top at 10pm. May try and have a session next week when weather forecast is clearer. My new Top Shop dress is a contender, however definitely looks better with opaques (in fact opaquee and flat boots looks kind of quirky/cool but not evening-y. Have ordered pair of black patent heels for M and S that come highly acclaimed so am hoping they will work with a few different things. Only thing I am very short on is handbags, so I will not be the bearer of one that people can lust after unfortunately. Probably will not match outfit either!!

Talking of jabs - I have to take DD back to hospital for more be-spoke vaccinations next week, and we have been told to make sure she has the flu jab as the consultant says she is definitely in the 'high risk' category Sad.

Ambernj1 · 29/09/2011 10:59

fritzi glad you understand! They are a nice glittery sort of silver, not a dull flat silver. They are also, unfortunately, as hard as nails and have crippled me this morning - will take a bit of breaking in I fear!

NY I think a few of the girls at work have the M&S patent shoes you describe and have raved about how comfortable they are. I miss work fashion chat, the kids are lovely but they're not that interested in the subtleties of heel height.

ICC I would go personally, but as my babies have to be dragged out I'm maybe not the best judge!

I really would like the purple davina and DH is on board (he is big J.lo fan) but should I wait until I have lost all the baby weight (may be some time given my propensity for biscuits...) the 12 fits like a glove.

roary · 29/09/2011 11:57

Hello all
I'm completely with you all about jabs. I heard an amazing interview on the Archive Hour with Roald Dahl about the death of his daughter from measles, and the shock he had that people wouldn't immunize. In Australia DD will not be able to go to her kindergarten without an up to date immunization, I had to show them her UK records. Period, no negotiation - you have to have a certificate from a doctor with a genuine medical reason NOT to immunize, and as the nurse who looked at our records says, there are basically almost no such reasons. In addition there will be 2 children with CF in separate kindy classes and they could DIE if exposed to something like whooping cough or diptheria. I will now duck my head back under the parapet because I too know how sensitive this is but I do feel strongly about it.

Now on a lighter note. I was just very naughty supporting the UK economy at Reiss. I bought this and was sorely tempted this, the colour is AMAZING. I sized down in the latter, to prevent tent ilke appearance. Not 100% convinced about shape but the colour is so perfect for me. Hmmmm. Bought this instead also beautiful and good colours: lovely. So do I get the kingfisher one or hunt for similar colour different top?

Amber, love your work.

notyummy · 29/09/2011 12:04

Hi Roary - I like that skirt and the blouse - very pretty! The plain coloured top is a lovely shade but does look a bit tricky to pull off tbh.

On a slightly different note, do most shops do a size 4 these days, or only a few? I just noticed that Reiss has it, but I dont see it on all sites. (Not that it makes much difference to me - I have a couple of items in a size 8 and I am never going to be any smaller unless someone removes some bones from my hips. Grin)

redllamayellowllama · 29/09/2011 12:41

Hi al, just back from the playgroup of doom where DS was immaculately behaved this week. Phew.

Thank you for bringing up MMRs Rufus - had completely forgotten about DDs 1 year jabs and phoned now to book her in for them. Am on the same page as all of you - I used to have infuriating conversations with an NCT comrade as she made the decision not to immunise her child and couldn't see why that worked other people up. She also refused to give him calpol as 'it only alleviates the symptoms'. Ummm, yeah, if my child's at risk of febrile convulsions I'll be alleviating away. Anyway, I digress.

I love your top and skirt Roary - did you see the silk front t-shirt in kingfisher? Might be an easier way to wear the colour.

Amber sounds like you need to get yourself the Davina. Have you anything to wear it to or could you wait to get and see if you end up being any smaller? Am guessing you won't be wearing it until you stop bf'ing as much, so maybe worth waiting.

Icey I probably wouldn't go. But that's just me!

I've noticed that too NY - not sure if it's to compensate for vanity sizing or what, but i find it a little worrying.

redllamayellowllama · 29/09/2011 12:43

And Fritzi's got the right idea, I think Grin

IceCreamCastles · 29/09/2011 12:56

My turn for playgroup of doom this week red. Dd arrived and left tantruming and barring a brief spell of happily eating toast she sat on my lap sulking and whining- aghhhh. My crime was accidentally breaking a leaf she'd become attached to 2 minutes before leaving the house Confused

With you on the immunisations although I dithered on the swine flu one. Wouldn't venture onto any threads about it on here though!

Beautiful day here but all proper summer clothes packed so wearing earharts and vest top- v dull.

Really should clean my oven ready for new house occupants. Dh has kept promising to do it but has ducked out everytime I've tried to pin him down. Hate hate hate cleaning the oven. Grrr.

notyummy · 29/09/2011 12:59

Yes, it probably is because of vanity sizing Red. Realistically (i.e not taking into account vanity sizing) I am a large 10. I still have size 12s from years ago - dating back to 1993 - and whilst they may be loose on me now due to exercise and some care over my diet, they are not hanging off me! Yet I go to some shops now and find that a 10 is nearly too big, and the 12s are massive. Hmm. I guess if you are very petite then the same problem would leave you needing a 4.

redllamayellowllama · 29/09/2011 13:03

Oh crap - sorry to hear that Icey. Hope she cheers up for the afternoon. Get yourself some of this from Sainsburys. My old cleaner recommended it and it is brilliant. Yep, I really did just link to a cleaning product.
