Now, mrscb - we are very organised for winter, aren't we? As I am terrified of turning up to Cribbs in matchy-matchy Barbours I may have to look elsewhere....Grin But I do like it. And you are so not a Country Mouse. Ah, am also liking the Aigle v much wan !!!! I do like Aigle....in spite of Ms Humble!

Ollie - every cloud has a silver lining...fingers crossed all sorted soon.

Went to a lovely hotel (Barnsley House) at weekend...just fab! Modern Cotswold country living...yummy food too. Highly recommend for weekend away mrscb .

Am looking at Aga's for new house. Would be rude not too I think. I loved cooking on the aga- and 'ironing' of course.

annie i am contemplating the pied a terre brogues (in black) to wear with skinny black trews for winter. Love brogues on girls...

PORTIA4 · 21/09/2011 19:48

Evening Ladies, Barcelona was wonderful, lots of eating, drinking and shopping - and time to do it all!
I've been looking for links but been unsuccessful so far.
I bought grey suede over the knee boots - I hope that I don't look like D'Artagnan! I also got really nice black knee high boots with a cuban heel for wearing with jeans - they don't look like wellies, which is a common complaint for me!
My winter wardrobe is going to have lots of deep dusty pink and slate grey coordinating pieces, which I really like. - I can't exlain to you the luxury of being with one of my sisters shopping and getting an honest opinion and best of all not being short of time Smile.
Carciofi I do remember the chill of SPS and also would have suffered from chillblains!
I love brogues but they don't look right on me, I wore them a lot last time round.
Ollie Hope that all gets sorted out with DH, these really are troubled times that we live in.
That Aigle coat is fab, but I could not justify it, in fact I need to revert to my mantra of wearing what I have!
I'm off to London for the day tomorrow and getting my hair cut so I need to go and peruse magazines for some ideas.

FritziGreenEyes · 21/09/2011 20:07

Welcome back portia! Glad you had a great time in Barcelona. I wore a lot of slate grey, white and dusky pink over the summer and loved it too.

dolcee Good to see you too! Have you decided on how to do your bathrooms in the new house yet? I found that more difficult than doing the kitchen or any other room.

ollie That must be terrible for your DH... Positive thing is that he let you know right away. You'll get through this!

annie I love brogues and wore my black pair from last year yesterday. Might buy a heeled pair too, maybe in grey. The coats you linked to are fabulous! If you don't like the shoulders of the one you linked to on your profile, maybe you can have them altered?

carciofi Your DD looks so sweet in her uniform. Smile I'm glad to hear that Auntie Bloss is going to take her under her wing for her first make-up lesson Wink.

Have fun tonight notyummy. Your dinner sounds delicious.

I'm in awe of the thorough research on the Cuckmere Grin.

FritziGreenEyes · 21/09/2011 20:08

I'm going to watch Downton Abbey now. Hope it is good!

blossoming · 21/09/2011 20:39

I am in the intermission of Bridesmaids. Really enjoying it.

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 21/09/2011 20:41

I haven't seen any of these. But I did watch Made in Chelsea last night.

redllamayellowllama · 21/09/2011 21:06

Marsha my sister?s friend is one of their script developers and absolutely loves her job. I?ve not yet had the pleasure of seeing it. Fritzi I loved Downton, but I?m a sucker for a spot of period drama ? must go and see Jane Eyre. Bloss hope you enjoy the second half, Mellissa McCarthy is my new favourite person.
Sorry to hear about your DH Ollie - good that you have some time away to try and take his mind off of things. Fingers crossed for answers soon.
Sounds like a lovely trip Portia - my (other) sister lived in Barcelona for a few years and I loved visiting her there. Such a wonderful city.
Hope you had a great evening NY - menu sounds yum. Lace tights not naff.
Not sure about the coat Annie - it looks like it could be quite drowning.
Cannot decide whether to return to the playgroup where DS inflicted such horrors last week. He has been so glorious the last couple of days, settling in well to Nursery and being a real help today, but he has tends to have behavioural patterns... Recipe for disaster???
Remain torn on the coat front but am determined to order tonight after reading up on the anticipated arctic October.

MarshaBrady · 21/09/2011 21:11

Red!! Red. oh my word. I love it. I am fascinated by how much is 'real' and how much is made up. What a great job.

Maybe skip the playgroup, only as he is settling in so well to nursery and being so helpful. Can you go next week?

MarshaBrady · 21/09/2011 21:13

Or maybe all actors, made to look badly real.

redllamayellowllama · 21/09/2011 21:20

I shall hound my sister for some information and get back to you Marsha. Will have to watch it too, y?know, for research purposes. Very good advice re. Playgroup, will do something low-key tomorrow instead.

OllieinOrange · 21/09/2011 21:22

Loved Bridesmaids. With you Red about Melissa Macarthy. Loved the way she got her Emmy award with everyone going up on stage here

Fav quote from Bridesmaids "im going to climb you like a tree!"

redllamayellowllama · 21/09/2011 21:25

Am more puerile Ollie - my favourite moment was her burp/farting her way around the bridal shop. And I particularly loved her work as she drove past Annie with a van full of puppies.

OllieinOrange · 21/09/2011 21:32

Yes they were v funny bits too - and when she was on the plane with the air marshell! Wonder if the comedy she won the award for will make it over here? Have only really seen her in (whispers) Gilmore Girls!

redllamayellowllama · 21/09/2011 21:35

Ssssh, me too...

carciofi · 21/09/2011 21:45

Ollie, hope everything works out for your DH, I am sure it willl. I used to love Gilmore Girls and seriously considered naming DD1 Lorelei but DH wouldn't allow me!

Annie, I like that coat and it is a bargain price. I have a pair of tan loafers, I quite like the preppy look. I'm not too keen on brogues for me but I like them on other people.

Portia, I like your winter palette.

Bloss, she would be in seventh heaven at the Mac counter. She had a great morning but has already lost a cardigan, hopefully we'll get it back tomorrow. DD2 had a two and a half hour nap while her big sister was out, I think she enjoyed the peace!

redllamayellowllama · 21/09/2011 21:50

Marsha she was headhunted for the job after a producer read reviews of MiC that she was writing for a random website. They aren?t actors, but were all auditioned from many to be in the show. They interview them about what is going on in their lives and then set up the situations again, but select the location and give them certain lines that they must say. My sister was just telling me that they have quoted lines directly from conversations that her friends have had (which gives you a little insight into what my sister is like...). I shall keep my ears pricked for any nuggets I can glean for you.

MarshaBrady · 21/09/2011 21:54

That is fabulous Red thanks! Grin. Love your sister's lifestyle too, feeding into the quotes. If you do watch it, I should say it falls into the so bad it's great bracket. (I still love it. Very clever).

blossoming · 21/09/2011 22:37

I really enjoyed Bridesmaids and so glad I went. It was the last showing tonight and I debated staying home and marking books. But went snd have just finished the marking after coming home.
I cried buckets though, and no tissues so sniffed loudly instead!

Sorry to hear about your DH ollie. Batch of shortbread or a lemon drizzle cake for the weekend?

Glad your DS has been better this week red. Mine was 'ill' after school. So we didn't go to piano. Hmm, think I was conned.

Great she had a good first day carciofi, and a good break for you!

OP posts:
notyummy · 22/09/2011 09:35

Morning all!

Glad you enjoyed Bridesmaids Bloss - I have it on our Lovefilm list so we will get it eventually!

PORTIA - glad you enjoyed your break.

Slightly blurry after last night and I didn't even drink that much (two large glasses of wine.) All went well though and casserole was big hit. Was very easy actually - just put a load of stuff in a pot and leave, which is my favourite kind of cooking! I am working at home this morning as I have to pick DD up from school early and take her to the hospital for one of many follow up appointments about the pneumonia she has been repeatedly hospitalised with. They have re-immunised her with the specific strain that she got, but blood tests have shown that it hasn't worked. Health protection agency is involved as they are worried that a new strain is emerging. She is very brave about all the injections/blood tests (as long as she gets a sticker....) but I wish they could find something that would work as I dread another blue light trip to the hospital.

Wore my new purple ruched sleeve top under new chunky knit with leggings last night. Was cozy and comfy.

notyummy · 22/09/2011 09:37

Oh yes - meant to say Ollie - so sorry to hear about your DH's situation at work. It is worrying, particularly when there is little you can do to change it. I will keep my fingers crossed for him.

VerityBrulee · 22/09/2011 11:43

Oh, Ollie that's awful for you and dh. I'm sure it will be fine, but those stressful situations are so difficult when there is nothing you can actually do. So typical to have happened just after you ordered your Aigle. Hopefully by the time it's delivered, dh will have had good news.

NY poor dd, and you. When ds1 was younger he had severe asthma, and the winters were a nightmare. Whenever he picked up a cold he would end up in hospital, needing nebulisers and lots of steroids. Luckily he has largly grown out of the asthma, but I do not look back fondly on those nights spent on matresses beside his hospital bed. I hope the doctors can find a solution for your dd.

My lovely aunt died yesterday. It was so unexpected. She had been very ill over the winter, was in a coma for 3 months after a dreadful illness and had to learn how to walk again, spent 5 months in hospital in all. She was at home and enjoying life again, and out of the blue got an infection and died. I haven't taken it in I don't think, so I am distracting myself by deciding what to wear. In Ireland funerals happen much more quickly than in the UK, so there will be a service tomorrow evening and on Saturday. I will wear navy I think, and let dd wear a pretty dress as my aunt loved to see her in pretty dresses twirling around.

I hope I haven't depressed you now. I had better go and bake for the wake. I'm going to do a few quiches and Ollies shortbread. Just bought 4 pounds of butter!

For some reason I woke up in the night and thought about snow boots, these are the ones I got, my mum has a similar pair here. They both have this grippy thing on the bottom for when you are out in the ice, and then you can flip it over for non-icy conditions. V clever I think.
