Do not go on girls nights out with your teenage daughter and her friends.

gggimmesnowsnow · 12/12/2005 10:15

The disco look is a killer no no past the age of 24

Feistybird · 12/12/2005 10:27

Look after your hands - nice nails (painted or not).

GingerBearingGifts · 12/12/2005 10:29

ggg, no one told that to Maddonna!

harpsiheraldangelssing · 12/12/2005 12:12

buy some funky sunglasses, they will make you look and feel foxy

doormat · 12/12/2005 12:23

manicured nails
hair done by hairdresser every 6-8 weeks
wear micro minis and knee high boots when going out on the razz

dont wear cardis, leggings or furry boots as these are granny magnets

orangina · 12/12/2005 12:26

go to topshop and see a personal stylist (for free).... was feeling very mumsy and thick around the middle, and I had a fab time last week.... have obviously emerged looking very foxy and updated indeed (despite my stylist being about 18 years old with legs like matchsticks and no concept of what big pants might be for...)

Nightynight · 12/12/2005 12:27

so what this thread is really saying is, as you get older, your look should be more sophisticated. So that you can look like a well preserved 40 year old, instead of a frumpy, dont care one.

Nightynight · 12/12/2005 12:28

Im with that

walkinginawelshmumwonderland · 12/12/2005 12:33

Remember v-necks and scoops are much more flattering for those with bosoms. Make sure said bosoms are well hoiked up so waist is obviously a seperate area of interest.
Always have mini make up bag with you with loud and soft lippy, powder/concealer/, eye shadow, perfume (testers v handy) and hand cream.
Find a pair of comfy heels.
Find a very flattering black skirt that makes your bottom look as good as it can.

Glitterygook · 12/12/2005 12:33

Manicured nails - if your own are crap, acrylic are a good substitute

Er, trainers are allowed if trendy - I wear Diesel square toe ones with jeans - got 2 pairs, one white with green stripes and one cream with navy stripes.

Agree with skirts and fitted jackets.
ALWAYS wear make up (cannot fathom for one moment why people don't bother).

However, it doesn't really matter how trendy I look, the buggy with buggy board just blows the look for me!

wessexgirl · 12/12/2005 12:35

Don't do as I do and continue to wear your maternity wardrobe until it falls to pieces ...well, it's a waste innit?

TheFish · 12/12/2005 12:42

I think a lot of this - certainly over 40 - is about working your own look, whatever that is; making sure you're neither mutton dressed as lamb or mutton just looking mumsily muttonly. Agree about getting a properly fitted bra.

I don't wear heels. Sorry, I'm not going to wear heels - I walk for an hour every day, and heels make my feet hurt.

TheFish · 12/12/2005 13:51

youa re so tiny though youll doa rumplestiltskin one day

motherinfurrierfestivehat · 12/12/2005 13:52

I have just realised my feet are smaller than a size 3, which makes my F-cup norkage even more hilarious.

Die your hair a really bright new colour- I went scarlet a few weeks ago, feel loads younger now, and because everybody looks I HAVE to wear make-up!
