Apologies if there is a thread going already

Where do these people live who have to think about it? Not anywhere near me-they just look smart if going to work, in gym gear, old clothes etc .

Dorje seriously, you need to re think your childs schooling. If you are competing for your DC's friendships based on the clothes they wear, what message does that give to your DC?

I live in Jersey and there is a certain amount of snobbery here about schooling etc, but if any other mother excluded my DC based on what I was wearing, then why on earth would I want to have anything to do with her? That is seriously fucked up!

FunnysInTheGarden · 31/08/2011 22:50

sorry, should have said 'clothes you wear'

ChippingIn · 31/08/2011 22:52

If this was in chat or AIBU I would say 'WTF - who cares??' but as it's in S&B I'm just going to back out quietly. Somewhat relieved I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I don't do the school run, so have asked my husband. He is rather amazed that there is even a question about this.

His reply was "clothes" - which is good to know, at least.

I won't even think about this until about 4 minutes before I leave the house Blush. Unfortunately that will likely show in how I look too!

I'm sure that most women are too!

If an outfit of 6 year old jeans and a £3.99 10 year old t shirt is a good enough outfit for
Carol Vorderman it is good enough for me.

I love S&B.
That is all.

we have a high proportion of what we fondly call loafers at our school. people (men and women) who work from home/work for themselves/work part-time. clothing is chosen depending on whether you're going for a run/walking the dog/mucking out the stables/taking your mountain bike out or actually going to work. if you look remotely like you've made an effort people comment. in a nice way.

Rather amused that Debretts have a guide to School Gate etiquette on their website, the last paragraph of which states that dressing to the nines and roaring up in an SUV is vulgar. Grin
