Apologies if there is a thread going already

A miserable face - my PSB is starting school.

I will however be wearing my new Fly London boots, which I cant stop smiling at!

seeker · 31/08/2011 09:30

Dorje- why are your children still at that ghastly school?

And yes of course people should be free to discuss cloThes. I love clothes. But specific outfits for the school run is (-apart form the child's very first day when there might be photographs) is bonkers. And worse, might make women who are feeling nervous about it or who have self esteem issues feel worse.

Malcontentinthemiddle · 31/08/2011 09:35

But it's not necessarily about getting a 'specific outfit', I read it more as 'what, out of the clothes you own, will you wear....'

And even if it does risk making people feel bad, I see no need for some people to fetch up within the first page of posts to decry the existence of the thread at all.

seeker · 31/08/2011 09:43

Why not? If people aren't being rude or aggressive what's wrong with sayin that q thread is a bit........silly?

FunnysInTheGarden · 31/08/2011 09:50

oh god, the CM. I better text her and ask what she is wearing for the pick up. Prob jeans and a top of some kind Grin

MissKittyEliza · 31/08/2011 09:52

Not decided yet... Haven't seen the Autumn Collection (makes mental note to self "must book front row seat for London Fashion Week") Grin

Whatever it is, I'll accessorize with a paper bag on my head.... Our school has had a 7 weeks and 4 day summer break this year and frankly, I'm stressed and look shagged out.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 31/08/2011 09:58

Seriously?!
People do this?

Ermmmm, I'm a childminder and really don't have time to plan an outfit. It'll end up being whichever pair of jeans and top / jumper is clean and ironed and ready to go. :)

MistyMountainHop · 31/08/2011 10:00

glad to see i am not the only person with too much time on hands who has been thinking about this :o

i am going to be wearing black skinny jeans, ballet pumps and a baggy stripy jumper. Blush

Malcontentinthemiddle · 31/08/2011 10:01

Well, you could say it nicely, which I think (seeker) is pretty much what you did. But the 'why the hell are you thinking about that' type posts - well, they seem to be everywhere, on every forum, if someone starts a thread that someone else thinks is less important than anything else, and I think it's a bit mean.

ruddynorah · 31/08/2011 10:07

The OP is joking you over sensitive dullards.

EldonAve · 31/08/2011 10:10

I know this thread is silly and thought it might kick off

I will be making an effort as it's DC2's first day and I've been way to scruffy this week
Yesterday I took the kids to the dentist wearing a workman's sweatshirt, complete with company name and 0181 phone number Blush

I agree with SuePurblybilt

I've just realised I always read your name as Superbly LIT

animula · 31/08/2011 10:34

Wow! Massive lightheartedness FAIL.

It's Style and Beauty, folks - one of the last bastions of humour, gentle parody, shared joy and camaraderie on mn. It is NOT compulsory to parade your higher-minded virtue here.

I'm guessing a few of you will be parading an outfit of smug expressions of "I am ABOVE such frivolous considerations as "fashion" or "appearance" in these times of austerity" as you drop the children off. Might I suggest you accessorise that with a copy of "Nausea", something by Kafka or an early twentieth-century Russian poet?

Agree with SuePurbly and others. Chill!

And as for me: well. I've decided this is the year I take hold of my middle age and start dressing more eccentrically. I feel it is my right. So am thinking of tweed jacket, skinny combat trousers and high heels. Am going to teach my daughter that a. it is a chil'd right to cringe at her parents b. clothes are always about fantasy and dressing-up and fun.

MrsCampbellBlack · 31/08/2011 10:37

I reckon you'd need a medium dress hall - which one though?

animula · 31/08/2011 10:44

Can I grab one of you to help me decide between this and this? (To complete school-run-eccentric look.)

I like fluffiness of second but colour of first. Haven't seen either in the flesh, so is pig in poke time - hence sudden desire for vox pop.

(Hall - it is hard when you have a bust. Bust is large, but large things swim, small things fit everywhere except over bust. V. annoying. 12 = safe.)

MrsCampbellBlack · 31/08/2011 10:47

Peat definitely - I love that!

animula · 31/08/2011 10:50

Smile @ MrsCB.

sailorsgal · 31/08/2011 12:00

On This Morning they covered an article from the Daily Mail that mums are spending more on the "school run outfit" than school uniform. Really??? I doubt it.

Where the hell do they get this from. Confused

Popbiscuit · 31/08/2011 12:14

Animula--the second one is more eccentric, if that's the look you're after. Even better if you could find one with a face/paws. And do this with your hair.

animula · 31/08/2011 12:43

Grin @ popbiscuit.

Can't do red hair. At all.

Popbiscuit · 31/08/2011 13:05

Too bad. I'm not brave enough and I suspect it wouldn't suit me either but I love it.

HalfTermHero · 31/08/2011 13:31

I will be wearing something that disguises my fat tummy little baby bump.

EldonAve · 31/08/2011 16:04

animula - I prefer the oat scarf

OP posts:
Littlepumpkinpie · 31/08/2011 17:23

I will be wearing clothes on the school run of course :) I never think about what I will wear untill I get up in the morning and look out of the window to see what the weather is like. Then I open the wardrobe and take out suitable clothes no need to rumage around for stuff as I hang it together anyway. Brought a couple of new tunic woollys today from TKmax as I needed some plus two pairs of boots. Still in need of some more winter clothes for the DCs by god they have grown this summer.

sjuperwolef · 31/08/2011 17:29

i cant remember.. we went back 3 weeks ago..
