What are you wearing for the first day back on the school run?

Apologies if there is a thread going already

OP posts:
Popbiscuit · 30/08/2011 23:33

Ok. Yes this is style and beauty but it's the school run. I'll be sweating and fretting over my kids on their bikes/scooters and trying not to let my dog jump on people. I would look and feel ridiculous if I tried to dress up to accomplish these tasks.
I think Elle and Co. look absolutely absurd.

MumblingRagDoll · 30/08/2011 23:33

pissed not really.....as LeBof says....work, weddings, parties, winter wardrobe advice...all fine and normal.

"What are you wearing on the school run? however smacks of schoolgirl phone calls on a sunday night..."What are you wearing tomorrow?" seeking reassurance that you've "got it right"

MumblingRagDoll · 30/08/2011 23:34

melted nobodies "abused" anyone. Hmm

People have sniggered though.

MumblingRagDoll · 30/08/2011 23:35

Nobody's....not Nobodies.

pissedrightoff · 30/08/2011 23:41

Yes mumbled it is a bit like that,I'll agree with you on that point but each to their own and all that.

Some people use their clothing, hair, make-up as a sort of armour. Not saying I agree with that but I certainly think they should be allowed to post a light-hearted thread here about it without getting a hard time.

Now I'm off to the dog lovers thread to tell them all to get cats :)

HerRoyalNotness · 30/08/2011 23:42

the whole of last year I rocked up in invariably dirty joggers and a tshirt/hoodie/coat. One of the other mothers through the winter wore her fur coat, every freaking day. Head to toe black, full makeup and hair. In my defence, I had just had a baby. In her defence she was trying to hide her pregnant body. I felt comfortable, and so did she.

This year, I'm back at work, so won't even get to do it, DH will have to drop off DS1, I wonder what they'll make of that?

Olivesandfeta · 30/08/2011 23:50

I have 2 babies and will therefore be wearing jeans avec muffin top, and some sort of breast feeding friendly top complete with sick marks.

I do however look at those for whom make-up and freshly washed hair is not a luxury but a daily habit and feel a twinge of envy... Looking good for whatever occasion, even for no reason at all, just makes you feel... Good.. So why not for the school run?

One day I may be that person

pissedrightoff · 30/08/2011 23:55

Olives I so get what you mean about freshly washed hair now being a luxury. :)

I too will be very glad to be out of sick stained clothes (reflux baby) When people tell you babies create washing, You assume they mean the babies clothes not your own clothes (and your bedsheets and your towels etc etc)

meltedchocolate · 30/08/2011 23:58

In two years time I intend to wear the same kinda thing I wear now. Jeans and heels (skinnies and boots normally) with a top of some sort, a nice jacket and bag containing kitchen sink.

TillyIpswitch · 31/08/2011 03:29

I'm a bit bemused by some of these responses... Grin

This is S&B people - if you can't stand the heat, get out of the walk-in wardrobe. Nobody's forcing you into this forum, let alone to read this thread. Wink

As for me, I'm in the wrong hemisphere for back to school and my two are too young anyway!

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 31/08/2011 08:20

I say dress up if you like (and no need to be bitchy, ladies! Find another thread!)

But having said that, I do the school run in my scruffy running clothes. Loads of the other mums look a million bucks and good for them. But here's the thing: none of them give a fuck what I wear. None of them give a fuck what you wear, either. Seriously.

hattymattie · 31/08/2011 08:30

Well - my kids are older and I've perfected the drive-by. Drive to school - stop in middle of road exactly in front of school gates - offload children - drive on. Come home have leisurly shower and dress properly. No worries about school run clothes!

DonaAna · 31/08/2011 08:44

It's my firstborn's first day at school and yes, I'm planning my outfit in advance. In fact, I bought a light flowery summer dress and lovely rose-beige ballerinas to go with it.

I've spent my share of time in grungy clothes and sickmarks but I've been doing a style and wardrobe overhaul. I've bought some lovely clothes in beautiful colors and some fresh make-up for the fall and got new highlights - to stay at home, to do the school run, run errands, and to look smart enough when I get the occasion to get out of the house to do something work-related.

I'm already feeling the positive effect: I'm getting compliments, I feel confident and in charge.

OP, what are you thinking of wearing?

wordsonapage · 31/08/2011 08:50

Gym kit as have foolishly arranged personal trainer for 7.30am

SuePurblybilt · 31/08/2011 08:53

In S&B it should OK to discuss any shallow clothes-related nonsense you like witout fear of ridicule. Just as in the Christmas topic you can ponce about with tartan ribbon from June onwards. That's what the topics are for, surely? Safe places, people Grin. Poor OP.

Anyway, I am not stylish but I will be wearing the walking-in-the-mud combo of biker boots, tights and dress, wax jacket and dog hair.

CrosswordAddict · 31/08/2011 08:58

Wearing slacks and Tshirt and waving them off on the bus Smile

Malcontentinthemiddle · 31/08/2011 09:02

Jesus, just because some people aren't that bothered, surely doesn't mean some can't get harmless pleasure out of planning something they are interested in?

I don't know what I'll be wearing, but that doesn't mean I won't know by MOnday!

MrsCampbellBlack · 31/08/2011 09:02

Not sure yet but possibly new aubergine jeans which means I need to diet as they are ahem a tad too tight. And I blame wearing dresses too much this summer for my weight gain.

HallnotOates · 31/08/2011 09:02

.... A look of delight. Tempered by the fact I'm
Back to school too

MrsCampbellBlack · 31/08/2011 09:03

And indeed this is S&B but you know anything with school run in the title always gets a frightening response from those who are above such things Wink

HallnotOates · 31/08/2011 09:10

Lol at cb. Ps. Sizing. White co dress for Busty 14?

TheBolter · 31/08/2011 09:11

I won't be there in the morning as I will be on a flight back from Ibiza ignoring my children. In the afternoon I expect I'll rock up with a couple of newly acquired bags (under my eyes).

TheBolter · 31/08/2011 09:13

BTW, what is it with handbags on the school run? I never take one even though I have five Mulberrys that I like to show off. (Not-so-stealth brag).

If I'm working I'll take the car and leave my bag in the car. If I'm SAHMing that day I'll walk and be too busy helping my dd's to carry their paraphernalia to worry about my own!

lupo · 31/08/2011 09:13

I love clothes and that's why I am on style and beauty forum.I do the school run and then go to work at another school and always plan what I am going to wear for this. Its smart stuff but not ott, and people often compliment me for making the effort. I can't see anything wrong with wanting to dress nicely whenever you go out, and I feel for the OP. If some posters have no interest in this maybe they should not be on style and beauty.

SquongebobSparepants · 31/08/2011 09:19

I can't do the school run this term so H will be doing some mornings and the CM the afetrnoons.

I think he will mostly be wearing worn jeans and a dark polo shirt, if that helps.

The CM will be wearing whatever the hell she wants, she is epic.
