Any winters here?

I've been following the other season threads and found them really useful. It would be great if any other winters want to share tips, links and advice :)

I think I'm a deep winter. I'm going to get my colours done in November before returning to work, until then I'm saying deep winter as that's what my wardrobe looks like! :o

Really want to know what colours to avoid but worried I will have to scrap all my favourite clothes as a result!

I believe I am a winter. Dark hair, green eyes and fair skin.

I still tend to stick to blacks, neutrals and grey though!

PeriPathetic · 20/08/2011 09:16

I'm a winter - but no idea if I'm a 'deep' winter or the alternative! Had my colours done years ago. iirc it's mainly clear colours, not muddy ones. Pure white is good for us, for example.

I can't do links yet, but google kettlewell for some ideas.

miche8 · 20/08/2011 09:33

i think i'm a winter dark hair, dark eyes, pale skin in winter but tans in summer. Think i look good in the jewel colours pink, purple, green, can also wear white, i don't think black looks too bad but try to avoid, i wear alot of grey instead on black.

I recently tried to get my colours done but my local consultant isn't actually very local, almost 1hr away and i'd worry about getting back to pick my children up. She is also much much older than me and her photo wasn't that great.

I wonder if personal shoppers are trained to advise, my only experience was years ago in debenhams, the girl wasn't much younger than me but dressed me in wallis and principles i was only 25 at the time, big waste of money the clothes didn't feel me. I can only remember her asking me what colours i liked though.

FoofFighters · 20/08/2011 09:53

Hi Gregs :) I love wearing black so I would be gutted if I didn't suit it. I think I do!

I can't wear charcoal grey though, it makes me look ashen. My best colour is dark blue, and I love to wear blue-toned reds.

FoofFighters · 20/08/2011 09:56

Thanks Peri I keep seeing kettlewells mentioned so I'm going to have a look. I think I do suit pure white, but then again I had a champagne-coloured wedding dress as I didn't suit the pure white ones, so actually, maybe not!

I know what you mean Miche, I found lots of consultants near me but some of the photos were not great. It does affect your choice I think.

I will be watching this thread as I have just realised that I can look better if I get the colour right & appear to be a deep winter, dark hair, hazel eyes, pale skin in winter & tans in summer, have tried all different colours as wanted to avoid black (everone says it's boring) but in all honesty it suits me,I have a fave polo neck in black & wish I could wear it all year as it looks great with the blackness really near my face.....I have also been seriously looking at necklines too.

I want to look more polished in my 40s instead of someone trying to be in fashion, will be awaiting all advice as reuse to pay to get my colours done (too tight fisted),well that & it brings back memories of the mother in" Bridget Jones":o

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2011 12:14

I think I'm a winter, although I've never been 'done' to find out. I've got dark hair and eyes and pale skin.

I wear black and grey almost exclusively, although purple and v dark blue also look okay on me and dark dark brown or deep burgundy. I look awful in white but fine in black and white (although the white needs to be away from my face really). There's no wonder I love buying/wearing clothes in Autumn and Winter and hate it in Summer!

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 20/08/2011 13:02

Oh hell,I just went through my wardrobe & all the dh could hear was "shit, shit, shit" as the getting rid of due to be unflattering pile grew in size.........I now have not a lot to wear & no free money this month due to dc needing entire new uniforms, shoes & dd growing out of her entire wardrobe..................is wearing your dressing gown on the school run acceptable??? (runs away to sob at her lifes errors)

nicole333 · 21/08/2011 20:16

I was a Winter in the old days. Now Colour me beautiful have changed the way they assess you, I am a deep, cool and clear. Deep is my dominant colouring. My hair is dark, my eyes are hazel and my skin is pale. My eyes almost foxed my consultant and she at first thought I was going to be a Deep and Clear. That was until she started draping the colours over me.

My colours need to be deep and contrasting. Clear and pure in their clarity. In other words nice, strong jewel colours are great. Black is great on me (this surprised me at first, but was always the colour I'd go to). It's not just about the colours but how you wear them together. This is where the contrasting bit comes in. It's hard to explain, but I'd never wear two of my light colours together.
Wishy, washy colours are a strict no go for me. No orange either.

Think cobalt blue, emerald green, shocking pink etc.

Bunbaker · 21/08/2011 20:39

I am a winter. Colours that suit me are black, white, indigo blue, navy blue, scarlet red, crimson and fuschia.

Colours that don't suit me are browns, taupe and olive greens, and colours that are deeply unflattering are orange, lime green, bright yellow and beige.

I don't bother looking for clothes at this time of year because the shops are full of unflattering (for me) autumn colours.

FoofFighters · 22/08/2011 10:13

Shopping in summer is a waste of time for me but autumn and winter are good times. I got this cute jumper in Dorothy Perkins last week. It's lovely and soft and has cute buttons on the shoulders, kind of a military style, and the sleeves are cute really nicely.

www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33053&storeId=12552&productId=2516399&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=208654&parent_categoryId=208600&pageSize=20&refinements=Colour{1}~[blue]&noOfRefinements=1 Jumper

Found this site on the Autumn thread and it's great for helping with make-up colours: make up I just got similar colours to Toffee and Sand from Boots No. 7 using the £5 off vouchers :o

I'm narrowing down which type of winter I am as I don't typically fit into the old type. What type of winter looks good in dark colours such as blue red, dark grey, black and purple but can't do icy pale colours or white or any shade of pink unless it is a deep raspberry shade not fuchsia? Any help most appreciated.

catswipe · 22/08/2011 11:40

Forgot to add my colouring is like Liv Tyler's.

Bunbaker · 22/08/2011 12:21

catswipe Those are the colours that suit me. I have fair skin, dark brown eyes and dark brown hair.

catswipe · 22/08/2011 12:33

I've found this palette called Winter III which most closely resembles the colours I suit. Is this Clear Winter? It has fully saturated colours but a bit of warmth mixed in. No pastels shades at all and the type of pink that is raspberry. Bunbaker- sorry I can't do links but it comes up if you google it.

Bunbaker · 22/08/2011 12:42

I'll have a look. These different shades of winter are new to me, but I had my colours done over 25 years ago.

FoofFighters · 22/08/2011 20:44

catswipe Liv Tyler is a clear winter: www.thechicfashionista.com/winter-color-analysis.html

I googled Winter III and found this site: trepanrr.tripod.com/color_analysis_test.htm#your_an_autumn

I am driving myself flipping mental trying to work out what I am! Dark warm brown hair, fair skin, dark blue eyes with golden ring round my iris. Dammit I need expert help! Confused

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 22/08/2011 20:56

fooffighters - I have not paid to have mine done, just got everything out my wardrobe & held it up under my chin in natural light, all the things that loooked yuk have been tossed & all the colours that suit a dark winter have been kept, trial & error really.....& that site confused the hell out of me too

MumblingRagDoll · 22/08/2011 20:59

I am a deep winter too....I have found that the bes eyeshadow for me is a silvery grey...and I just got a coat in a mulberry purple shade which looks great. I used to wear a lot of black but ave realsed it drains my face terribly. I am much better in reds, greys and french navy type blues.

FoofFighters · 22/08/2011 21:24

Thehusbands I have tried that a bit but I can't really see if the colours are good on me or not, as I look so tired just now with night feeds and early starts :o I know I suit dark blue, purples, blue-toned reds and black (I think). I can do icy pastels too.

I can't decide if I don't suit certain colours or I just don't like them, IYSWIM :o

Clear/Bright Winter here. Loving the Purple, Grey, Silver, Turquoise, Black, Bright Jewel Tones and Bright White, high bold contrast over flowery or small prints.

My colouring is most like hers according to dp.

jbg · 22/08/2011 22:31

I had my colour analysis with HoC today!!! I'm a Jewel Winter. I'm pleased as i already have some of the correct colours in my wardrobe already. I'm on hols now but plan a big sort out when i get home.

My 'best' lipsticks are ones i would NEVER have chosen myself but i admit they clearly lift me and me me look better. Just have to get used to them.
