Tights Dilemma. What do you think of this?

After MUCH trawling of shops and six returned dresses, I have finally settled on a frock for a friend's wedding. It is navy blue with lots of little mustard colour butterflies all over it. However, as much as I love the dress, it is above knee-length and I HATE my knees. So, I need to wear opaque tights, preferably navy. I would also like to wear some mustard colour shoes but do you think that coloured shoes with navy tights will make me look like Minnie Mouse? Don't really want to wear navy shoes if I can help it.

Or do you have any other ideas? Help!

Sorry but in my head, that sounds awful. Navy dress, navy tights and mustard shoes. Can't you go for nude tights?

I have a wedding and have a dreadful varicose vein so I am doing black/cream dress, nude tights and nude shoes. That said, I may try the Sally Hanson stuff that lots have recommended.

No nude tights. I HATE my knees. They cannot be shown in public.

The Sally Hansen stuff is fantastic, BTW. It will definitely hide your varicose vein. Why can't they do something to hide knees?

Thicker nude tights? Or what about fishnets- surprisingly flattering on knees.

I would wear barely black sheer tights, you wont be able to see your knees . Opaque tights might look too heavy for this time of year. I would go for heels if you can .

Eugh no, I hate sheer tights (on me). They just seem to accentuate all of the bits of my legs that I hate.

I think that a burqa might be the way forward. :(

I feel your pain, Bupcakes. Unfortunately, I think navy shoes would draw less attention to your legs in general than mustard shoes therefore not highlighting the fact you are wearing opaques in summer. And pray for rain or at very least an overcast day. Sod the bride!

I have wedding the weekend after next and the worst legs humanly possible so need opaques too. Tried nude opaques to 'summer-up' the look but ended up looking like I had prosthetic limbs.

I think I may have to go for navy shoes too, as non-opaque tights are not an option!

Sally Hansen do a spray-on make-up (not as scary as it sounds, promise) It's like an airbrush tan that covers blemishes/imperfections and evens out your legs whilst giving them a nice colour. It came in about 5 shades last time I looked. I use it if I am wearing a skirt/dress belowe knee-length as I actually don't mind my calf area but need help on the issue of them being pasty/bruised.

Airbrush legs is what it's called. Surprisingly.

Oooh dear, though; just reading the reviews on that link and it looks like they've changed the formula and people don't like it!

Crap. They appear to have added glitter. Just what I need. The worst legs humanly possible highlighted with sparkle. Thanks anyway, Bupcakes, may still give it a go.

Pity it wasn't the same wedding.....we could have brazened it out by insisting opaques were de rigueur and spent the day scoffing in the face of 15 denier.

15 denier, or indeed any denier up to 50, are for ladies with legs like Jerry Hall. Not for ladies with legs the shape of skittles and the consistency of suet.

Definite raindance! I almost wept with glee when the Daybreak weather woman said that summer is over, yesterday. Crack out the opaques!

I would wear navy tights with mustard shoes... BUT I would go with clashy-clashy.

Get some tabio tights in mustard, orange, red or green and either wear mustard shoes or another clashy colour. Navy shoes would also work. You need confidence to pull it off, but it would look fab.

Well, I do have confidence and I was thinking it might look nice in a '60s sort of way. I was thinking of raspberry-coloured shoes with navy tights, then getting some rapberry coloured chunky beads and a bag.

exactly- I would do mustard tights with raspberry shoes and pick out the raspberry with jewellery or hat.

I second fishnets. Navy blue fishnets and navy shoes would look far more European chic than opaque tights. Flesh-coloured fishnets can look surprisingly sophisticated too.
