And holy shit it hurts! Shock

Why did I not check on here before?

Looks good but I think I'll stick with waxing in the future.

I have my eyebrows threaded - would not have it any other way. But some people are more skilled than others. The last time I had it done it really hurt - had never hurt like that before. I've also had it done in a department store where the person left a gap in my eyebrow!! You need to find someone good. The ladies on the Brow Bars are all excellent ime...

DrCoconut · 05/08/2011 23:40

I don't find eyebrow waxing painful. Would I cope with threading?

happy2bhomely · 06/08/2011 00:17

I threaded my own eyebrows and upper lip for the first time on Tuesday night, and by Thursday morning my mum and sisters had been round and I did theirs too!

I watched a tutorial online and it is ridiculously easy and the results are sooooo much better than waxing for me. I found it a little bit uncomfortable but my sister was in tears!!! So, it obviously is different for everyone.

I will never wax again and I'm looking forward to being able to thread myself whenever I like in my own bathroom, all thanks to youtube!

SpareRoomSleeper · 06/08/2011 01:23

I regularily thread my eyebrows (at a salon) and upper lip (myself). To be fair, neither areas need loads of hair removing, but the results are amazing.

Highly recommended. Wink

Mumcentreplus · 06/08/2011 01:37

I love a good threading..much better than waxing...very precise and an amazing finish..no worse than plucking imo...but it is shocking the first time I wont lie...I was thinking WTFFF?? when it was being done...but it looked so good and the pain didn't last...

Mumcentreplus · 06/08/2011 01:38

3 quid in a Walthamstow salon...

SnoozleDoozle · 06/08/2011 09:10

I would never wax again, threading gives me a far better result, doesn't hurt any more and also doesn't stretch the skin in that horrible way that tearing off the wax strip does. I also have had horror experiences with waxing, including being left with two red scars above my eyebrows and on my upper lip, where the salon burnt me using wax that was too hot. (I had asked for my eyebrows to be plucked, as I was taking medication where a side effect was super sernsitive skin - they refused and slapped the wax on instead, saying 'oh, it will be fine'). This was the day before my wedding, so it is there to remind me every time I see a photo of my wedding.

But, I go to an Indian lady who is fantastic. I have to drive 30 miles to the salon, so its quite a commitment, but I recently tried a local salon and the girl there was terrible - it hurt a lot, and she didn't make anywhere near as good a job. If that was my only experience of threading, I'd probably be posting here saying it is overrated and too painful.

eandz · 06/08/2011 09:35

they have an anesthetic cream they can put over your brow area 1-3 minutes before they begin. it does take the pain down.

in my family, you only get them threaded. i did try waxing them once, but i was missing half a brow and my eyebrows were un even.

practicallyimperfect · 06/08/2011 09:56

I get mine waxed. I can't pluck my own, I find it too painful so not sure threading is for me!

EmJayg · 06/08/2011 10:25

I have had my threaded by a asian lady who has a lil salon and its great. Does hurt a bit, not as much as waxing and the results are soo much better. Also it doesnt stay as red for as long.

Guess everyone is different.

Lunabelly · 06/08/2011 10:58

First encountered threading a year ago. I love it. The most perfect eyebrows ever. (And perfect eyebrows is one of my 'things')

Yeah, hurts a bit the first time (I too thought my eyelids had been ripped off), but the results are worth it.

prolificwillybreeder · 06/08/2011 11:12

How long does the hair need to be? If I didn't tweeze for what 5 days would the hair be long enough?
My eyebrows always look terrible I'm hoping threading will sort the years of over plucking.

RunAwayWife · 06/08/2011 12:37

I love having my eyebrows threaded and I would recommend it to anyone, not the way to go for a bikini line though

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 06/08/2011 12:44

just like waxing, don't go get threaded (esp first time!) in the week before your period, your skin is much more sensitive then and it WILL hurt like buggery. Best time for waxing/threading/ etc is the week AFTER your period.

ChuckYouFarlie · 06/08/2011 13:06

For heaven's sake, at the risk of stating the obvious:

  1. if you find it painful, take a bloody paracetamol an hour beforehand! You would for a brazilian, why wouldn't you for this? Angry

  2. of course some threaders are better than others, it's not a generic procedure; it's a human being who is wielding that thread! If they draw BLOOD then it's probably a sign that they're NOT. VERY. GOOD. And therefore you should find a different threader. Angry Hmm And not write off the entire practice of threading which you can see works fine when done properly.

melika · 06/08/2011 13:16

Ok here's my version!

Went last week, first time, only £2.50! My one eye watered a bit but I soon got used to it.

Am really pleased with result, had never been so tidy!

Will be back even tho she doesn't speak any English!

I depends on your face. And your eyebrows. Maybe yours are naturaly fair and shapely? Why dont you post a photo so we can laugh at you advise?

bushymcbush · 06/08/2011 16:01

I am shocked at the tales of people bleeding, scabbing and swelling! Your therapists really don't know what they are doing if that is the case.

I go to an Indian salon, pay 3 quid, I can barely feel anything and the results are fab. The skin goes a tiny bit red for about an hour afterwards.

mumatron · 06/08/2011 20:21

Hmm, not impressed today. One eyesbrow se
ems to be growing back already. won't be going through that again if its only going to last a day or two.

upahill · 06/08/2011 20:26

They should last weeks!!!!

shandyleer · 06/08/2011 20:53

It totally totally depends on whose doing it, really. I used to go to one lady for about two years and it ^hurt. Then she disappeared (never did get to the bottom of what happened to her), and went elsewhere. Couldn't feel a thing, was so shocked. Since then, I've tried several different people, and it does depend on the threader.

zenoushka · 14/01/2013 15:18

I live abroad in the Middle East and have been getting my eyebrows, upper lip and chin threaded every 2 weeks for the past 5 years (I'm very hairy!)

The woman I go to is from Sri Lanka and is excellent. It definitely makes my eyes water, but totally worth it. More uncomfortable I'd say rather than painful.

Only thing is that I'm working back to London next month and will need to find a new place to do it. What's great out here is that it's so cheap too! When I have been back in London, I've been going to Blink at Selfridges which is good but just far far too expensive. Any tips for cheap but good threading places in North London will be very much appreciated!

adi82 · 14/01/2013 15:47

The first time I was almost crying, the second time too but somehow I got used to it. It should be done regular in 2 or max in 3 weeks. Waxing got me some dark spots over my upper lip.

zenoushka · 14/01/2013 17:59

Definitely agree that the more you do it the less painful it becomes. Also depends on the person doing the threading, some really don't have a very good technique and it can hurt.
