And holy shit it hurts! Shock

Why did I not check on here before?

Looks good but I think I'll stick with waxing in the future.

For those who don't know - it's an epilation technique using cotton thread.

Look it up on youtube (I can't - it's blocked). Basically, they take two pieces of thread and use those to remove the hairs.

Enraha · 05/08/2011 13:24

Never had any problems at all, even with lengthy gaps between sessions, supplemented by home-pluck tidying. Was not aware I had Brows Of Steel

MotherMucca · 05/08/2011 13:28

Threading

It is AMAZING. I will never, ever have them waxed again. The shape you get is fab.

I'm a sensitive flower and yes, it hurts like fuck. But the results compensate x a squillion.

My friend never feels a thing when she has hers done. [Botox]

eurochick · 05/08/2011 13:34

It hurts like fvk and makes your eyes water terribly but it does give a lovely result.

LaLaLoopsie · 05/08/2011 13:34

I've never had it done but intrigued as to why it gives a better result than using tweezers, if anyone can enlighten me?

I've overplucked my brows and had a thin arch for years. I've been letting them 'grow out' for about three months now, but the hair is very sparse in places. Can regular threading help with uneven shape and hair growth, or is more due to the skill of the person doing it?

upahill · 05/08/2011 13:41

Even better than 'just ' threading is HD brows which involves everything!!
Threading waxing, tinting, tweexers.
Flippin amazing!!!! love it!

MamaMary · 05/08/2011 13:42

A friend had it done recently and is convinced it has given her wrinkles on her brow! She's in her late twenties. Put me right off.

onlylivinggirl · 05/08/2011 13:49

I would never do it again- not only was it excruciating but it drew blood- and the scabs etc didn't enhance the look

upahill · 05/08/2011 13:50

onlyliving Did you have the same thearpist as moomoo? That clearly isn't right!

No way should that be happening.

upsylazy · 05/08/2011 14:14

I'm a definite convert - the results are fab although it does hurt. What i don't like is that the only places that seem to do it are really public like in the middle of shopping centres. I don't want everyone gawping at me while I'm wincing with tears pouring down my face.

Pawsnclaws · 05/08/2011 14:15

I love it, yes it stings a bit but over quite quickly. I have a lovely middle aged Indian lady, she never says a word just nods and smiles but is so skilled I find it amazing. She makes them look very naturally groomed.

I've never had bleeding or scabs! That just sounds wrong. I do get the swollen red look under my brow though and have to walk round in sunglasses for a couple of hours. A few months ago I had it done on the afternoon of an evening do and bumped into a friend in Starbucks .... both wearing sunglasses, and yes we'd both had them done at the same place!

Dragini · 05/08/2011 14:16

I'ma BIG fan. Ok, it does make your toes curl (and not in a good way) but the results are great and last for ages.

I got DH to have his bushes done last year - he came out looking like Tony Curtis Shock

GothAnneGeddes · 05/08/2011 14:17

I cannot handle having my top lip threaded but everywhere else on my face is ok. It's almost pleasant on my cheeks.

Tanyaaah · 05/08/2011 14:18

Saw a woman laid on a bed in the doorway of Superdrug having her moustache threaded, everyone who walked in the shop had to walk right by her!

Tootingbec · 05/08/2011 14:19

Hummmm, not sure where you are all going but not only should it not be AGONY but forget £5 off vouchers - it should only cost £2-£3!

Go and find your nearest Asian beauty salon and you will get a really good job done for a fraction of the price of overpriced stands in shopping centres. The salons might not be "luxurious" spa type places but the women there know their stuff and you will be in and out in 5 mins having only spent £2.50.

Getting my eyebrows done is about the only thing that seems to be cheaper to do than just about everything else in London!

KristinaM · 05/08/2011 14:23

i am amazed at these comments. i am the biggest woose out and i dont think it really hurts at all. ok it nips a bit just like using tweezers. i have never had tears running down my face and certainly not blood or scabs Shock.i had mine done at 11.30 this morning and there is now no redness or stinging at all. the redness usually goes after a couple of hours

maybe i have delicate ladylike hairs and you lot have tough old buggersGrin

bestmate · 05/08/2011 14:27

I found it hurts on the stray ones at the under end of the eyebrow, you know the finer hairs, that are way too fine to tweeze? elsewhere it was ok.

GetOrfMoiSamsungFridgeFreezer · 05/08/2011 14:34

It DOES hurt like buggery, but it gives a lot better finish than waxing or threading.

I have found though that the brow bars in House of Fraser and Debenhams (Shavata for instance) are not very good. I have found (by chance) a local ethnic salon where an Indian woman does it- she is evidently very skilled and it hurts a lot less. Plus it is in a salon, so no gawping.

GetOrfMoiSamsungFridgeFreezer · 05/08/2011 14:35

x posts tooting.

sedgiebaby · 05/08/2011 14:35

lalaloop for me I find it takes away all the tiny tiny hairs under above and between the brow and hairline that I can't get myself with tweezers, the look is really clean. The girl who does mine takes tiny scissors also to the top of my brow for a nice straight edge where some of them are a bit long. It is a huge difference to anything else I've done (waxing/plucking)

I dont find it that painful, definitely on a par labour as has been suggested, I'd prefer a thousand eyebrow threading sessions one after the other over labour!

MooncupGoddess · 05/08/2011 14:37

It's like having barbed wire ripped across your forehead... but as everyone says, the results are great.

Had my upper lip done once and not only was it agony, it brought the whole area up in tiny spots. Not a good look. I prefer to have a faint yet undeniably dashing moustache.

eandemum · 05/08/2011 14:38

I pay £3.50 at a local Indian salon - takes at most 5 mins inc a lovely head massage at the end!!

Agree that if there is blood/ resulting in scabs something is NOT going right!

Also had upper lip done - ONCE- never again!!

MooncupGoddess · 05/08/2011 14:38

By the way, does anyone know a good eyebrow threading place in the East End? Have just moved from south London and would welcome any recommendations.

limitedperiodonly · 05/08/2011 14:39

I quite enjoy having my eyebrows done and the upper lip doesn't bother me any more.

But the sideburny bits by the ears and high up on your cheekbones. Ow! But after she's mowed a couple of times it doesn't hurt.

I actually quite like the crunchy sound of it being pulled out. And can't stop touching it afterwards.

TanyaBranning · 05/08/2011 14:40

I like the fact that threading is so quick, but I have gone back to waxing as i find it much less painful and leaves me less red. I see no difference in the effect, otherwise, and waxing also cheaper where I am.
