And holy shit it hurts! Shock

Why did I not check on here before?

Looks good but I think I'll stick with waxing in the future.

I had this done for the first time 2 weeks ago.. wow, did it make my eyes water but produced an excellent result.. all the fine hairs completely gone and a lovely shape to the brows.. had them tinted as well as my eyebrows are very fair.. took no more than 5 mins, hardly any regrowth so far, £10 very well spent!

I love having my eyebrows threaded - no pain, perfectly done eyebrows and all over in about 3 minutes. It takes longer to pluck them at home! I also love my eyebrow lady - she's great.

Plus they grow back at pretty much the same rate, whereas with plucking them I seem to have the hairs grow back all over the place and am forever at the mirror with tweezers.

The only downside is the redness, but it lasts less than an hour. Well worth it IMO.

Shutupanddrive · 05/08/2011 18:48

To all of you that have said it makes you bleed and get scabs, this should not happen! It does makes your eyes water and is red for a few hours but that's it. Find somewhere else to go that does it properly Shock

mumatron · 05/08/2011 18:53

All those who say it doesn't hurt, you are mad! It is extemely painful.

Anyway, wine is making it much more bearable. I'm staring to forget how bad it actually was.

johnworf · 05/08/2011 18:55

I've been having mine threaded for over a year now and it's fantastic. I'm a total convert. The redness lasts nowhere near as long as waxing and I've never had bleeding Shock

They're a fabby shape and the pain is more uncomfortable than anything else.

If you're in agony or having blood drawn, I'd recommend you go somewhere else!

midnightexpress · 05/08/2011 18:56

I've only ever had mine waxe, but our local shopping centre has a cafe with a gallery that overlooks a threading place so i wsa watching fascinated the other day and wondering if it hurts.

Can I ask a question about the upper lip - is the regrowth, y'know, bristly? Every time I have my eyebrows done, the lady asks me if I want my lip done too. I think perhaps she's trying to tell me something. I've resisted so far, on account of bristle-fear and the prospect of having a bright red lip for 24 hours.

MrsCampbellBlack · 05/08/2011 19:03

I don't find it painful at all but then I don't find a brazilian too bad either.

But I'm fair and not terribly hairy - does that make a difference I wonder . . . Oh and also have botox - yeay another brilliant thing if it reduces pain Wink

befuzzled · 05/08/2011 19:13

I hve mine done, fiver in the local shopping centre, had it done today in fact and i don't find it painful at all?? mild sting at worse. I must be hard Grin

Oblomov · 05/08/2011 19:17

I wonder if you find it that painful, then maybe the person doing it is crap ?
Threading, for ME, is painfree. But I am unable to cope with waxing, at all, which shows that I do not have a high pain threashold.

bumbleymummy · 05/08/2011 19:25

I don't find it painful and I think it looks much better and seems to last longer than waxing - much less redness for me too! I'm totally converted.

Leg waxing, on the other hand, is worse than labour and I will never let anyone near my legs with wax again unless I have had a bottle of wine or 2! Funnily enough I don't find bikini waxes as painful....very strange!

ednurse · 05/08/2011 19:29

It doesn't hurt me too much. Only ever had it done by work colleagues on quiet night shifts Grin I do have very fine blonde hairs though so maybe this is why it doesn't hurt too much.

ZeroMinusZero · 05/08/2011 19:42

I'm of Indian origin so get it done all the time and I have a very very low threshold for pain.... BUT I get it done back home (DP's home) which is a very Indian area and the people there know how to do it. Is pain free and only about £4 and lasts for ages. I would never get it done where I live now, a very very white area.

ZeroMinusZero · 05/08/2011 19:43

My darling parents home, not my darling partner's home, I should have said. Not that it matters. What's the shorthand for darling parents?

RedAmberGreen · 05/08/2011 19:45

I don't find having my eyebrows threaded too bad to be honest, however, when it comes to having your top lip threaded it is like a 60 seconds whirlwind of pain

JambalayaCodfishPie · 05/08/2011 19:49

I much prefer it, to any other option: £3.50, less than five minutes, lasts about five weeks. Love it. :)

SarfEasticated · 05/08/2011 20:01

I think the results are good, but the stretching you have to do of your eye can't be good for your skin. I blame my crepey eyes on threading

menagerie · 05/08/2011 20:04

Jumping back to p1 here but Twenty six - that is an ignorant, stupid and hideously racist statement. The quality of your one-off eyebrow thread has nothing to do with the colour of the threader's skin. Some are talented and experienced, others are not. Can't believe this thread has run three more pages without a comment on what you said. If you'd said it about a coloured person you'd quite rightly have been roasted.

No racism of any type is acceptable here on MN, am I right?

janajos · 05/08/2011 20:06

It is the BEST thing I've ever done for hair removal. The re-growth is so much less and finer and it hurts less than waxing. Go to a good salon and you will have no problems. The finish is SOO much better.

janajos · 05/08/2011 20:08

I do agree menagerie, it does have nothing to do with skin colour, but might have something to do with training and perhaps cultural preferences. I.E. threading was much more common in asian communities and has only recently been adopted by the rest of us - hence they perhaps tend to be more expert in it!

bytheMoonlight · 05/08/2011 20:09

I opened my eyes after having my top lip done and the tears streamed down my face - unbelievable agony.

And it grew back in two weeks Angry

gazzalw · 05/08/2011 20:37

Sorry, really don't like Ariadne - okay in an Athenian Temple but not in 21st Century UK. Always think about the diminutive that you give DD from that - can't think of a nice one. Prefer Beatrice myself. Definitely don't go for both names. Also, unless you are uber upper middle class and will go down the very smart school route, your poor daughter will get mercilessly teased with a name like Ariadne - especially once people clue up about the real meaning of it. Friend has Penelope as middle name and everyone at school used to be hysterically amused by it ....and I would say Penelope is a lot more usual than Ariadne.....

midnightexpress · 05/08/2011 20:39
Confused
fluffywhitekittens · 05/08/2011 20:39

I've had mine done 4 times and it seems to hurt more or less depending on who does it. The most recent hurt the most but is the best result I've had and there was very little redness afterwards, unlike with waxing.
But I'm very jealous of all you who have handy cheap salons as the only places I have found in the area is Debenhams and I don't really like having everyone watch but it is really quick and I don't have to worry about getting an appointment and someone to watch dc.

beanandspud · 05/08/2011 20:51

I think the results are great, and the pain is no worse than waxing.

Strangely though plucking, waxing or threading my eyebrows makes me sneeze really badly, not just once but twenty/thirty times. It's far more embarrassing than the watering eyes.
