Time for a new thread.....

OP posts:
florenceuk · 22/07/2011 12:52

Oooh - just wanted to say I bought these in the NAP sale :taupe ballerina flats and they are fantastically comfortable at first slip on - super soft leather and padded inside. I'll give them a good test run at home but my Pretty ballerinas don't really compare (and they're pretty good! Better than Blochs). they were a worthwhile extravagance at 50% off. There are still a few pairs left on NAP...

My bargain cheeky monkeys from Coggles I couldn't zip up so they're going back.

blossoming · 22/07/2011 13:06

Wow florence, I'd hope they were good at that price.
I just bought some fuchsia espadrilles, and some metallic silver havaianas for my holiday!

florenceuk · 22/07/2011 16:29

Didn't pay that price as they were in the final mark down stage at NAP - although they were still a lot Blush

blossoming · 22/07/2011 17:45

Promise of a sunny afternoon did not materialize. Instead we've had torrential downpours. Lovely new dvf stuff on the site, so wanted to wear Bec tonight, but don't have wet weather cover up as just sent trench to dry cleaners. Boden stuff won't be despatched till Monday.
Everyone very busy today?

AntPants1 · 22/07/2011 18:43

bloss sorry about the weather in Wales. Have spent the day running round after my two. Am knackered. Just digging deep before last push till bath time. Am out tonight so looking forward to that first glass of wine! No purchases to report other than a couple of nail varnishes from Space NK.

redllamayellowllama · 22/07/2011 19:47

They are gorgeous Ant.

What have you decided on for tonight then Bloss? This weather really does wreak havoc on outfit planning.

Apuski, I haven't bought it yet either - don't know why as it is so lovely. Fingers crossed that the viewing went down well. Will DH be commuting to Briz from Monday?

Have had a lovely day here - DCs and I visited all of our favourite local haunts to say goodbye (in the spiritual sense; I didn't put DS through the trauma of saying goodbye to all he loves!) and just played and played.

redllamayellowllama · 22/07/2011 19:49

Meant Florence, not Ant. Have fun tonight Ant; nothing like a the -first glass of wine on a Friday.

rufus101 · 22/07/2011 19:51

Hi everyone. Back from my holiday. First week in camp site in Frejus (not quite glamping, but enjoyable) and second week at plush villa near Callas in Provence. We were with friends the second week, which was lovely. We go away together every year, the children are the same age, and we always have a ball.(Food, wine, food, wine and the boulangerie) My DS2 who is 3, locked himself in a restaurant toilet the 1st week, which necessitated a sledge hammer to knock the door down. I don't know who was more relieved when he got out, him or the poor French chef! I am keeping the bill to frame, pizza, pizza, boeuf, and er....door! (We decided to split the cost of the door between us. They made it seem very reasonable!) I couldn't stop laughing at the time. (Does anyone else get that? Mild hysteria obviously!)
Bought lovely khaki tailored sort of shorts in H and M, that I wore constantly with my red H and M, swedish hasbeens. They were a winner!

WAN and Icecream CONGRATULATIONS! What was your name before Ice, I can't seem to pick it up?

Fritzi how nasty of your neighbours. So unhelpful. And your poor friend. A dear friend of mine is pregnant with her first DC, on first IVF attempt at 41, and I am all so excited for her.

Bloss I bought that MAC blooz (?) eye pencil in duty free and I.LOVE.IT.

Carciofi delighted that little Rosanna is smiling, those first smiles make all the hard work worthwhile. (I am obviously being nostalgic here, as you must be wrecked totally still!)

Verity I am like you, I love to go in at the very beginning and the very end of a sale. Usually manage to get some complete bargain.

AnnieMac I too am going to a wedding in the West of Ireland in August! My brothers! Wouldn't it be amusing if it were the same? Doubt it though. My one is in Sligo. Your outfit sounds lovely, and so individual. I bought this Milly dress from Mywardrobe with the extra 20% off. It arrived today. I.LOVE.IT! It's actually navy, so will wear the navy Choos with it. Will have to get either implants or a good strapless bra with chicken fillets, as the neck line, which is very unusual, won't allow a bra with straps.(think NY linked to a strapless bra before? Thanks in advance NY. BTW, am totally impressed with the Table mountain run. You are wonderwoman) Am thinking gold jewellery, so will keep an eye out for a "gold" cuff.

Thanks to whoever recommended Every last one by Anna Quinlen. It was the first book I read on my Kindle, and I couldn't put it down. Love the kindle by the way, and I know this must seem the height of laziness to anyone who hasn't experienced it, but it's great for reading in bed, as you don't have to turn your head to the other side, when you turn the page! I am currently reading The Northern Clemency which was nominated for the 2008 Booker, and am really enjoying it. Have realised that my preference in books relates to the American novel, the English novel and the Irish novel (although Irish writers are my least favourite) I started The Tiger's Wife, and while I can see why it has won the Orange prize, find it a little pedestrian.

DH off to my DB's stag tomorrow, also in the West of Ireland, so I am home alone. My sister, whose husband is also going will have to entertain ourselves. Wine and chocolate will be involved.

OllieinOrange · 22/07/2011 20:01

Phew - back in the land of clogs after a 9 hour drive home today. Went v smoothly tho and DSs were little stars in the car - thank goodness. Have sort of unpacked/done a load of washing etc but post holiday blues have set in - esp as DH pointed out its only 6 weeks til he has a week sailing in Greece - hmmm.

Will now try and go back over the thread to catch up properly.

Oh yes - did you see that Kew is going to be re-branded as Kew 159 - whats all that about?

OP posts:
BelaLugosiinStripes · 22/07/2011 20:58

The Kew rebrand seems to be mostly an excuse to put the prices up see the near the end of article

OllieinOrange · 22/07/2011 21:07

Couldn't read whole article Bela (hello to you!) but interesting about their aim to crack the Whistles etc market.

Think I mentioned how I spent one rainy hour perusing the new Next stuff - found this stripey slub jumper (a la WIT) which I am quite taken with in both colour ways here but fear the stripes thing may be on the wane? Good price tho!

Fitted jumpers seemed v popular in France at the mo - esp those with elbow patches on.

notyummy · 22/07/2011 21:32

Hi all. Glad you enjoyed your holiday despite the weather Ollie.

And Rufus- your holiday sounds lovely.

Bloss- Sorry your weather didn't hold. Started well here but clouded over badly as the day went on. No rain, and forecast looking ok for the two nights camping. Am taking indigo denim shorts, knee length black cargo shorts and will be wearing skinny flares which j can change out when it warms up (hopefully...) Jeans, jumpers and boots for the chilly evening.

Rufus- I thoroughly recommend Julian Rathbone. Am reading the second of his novels now. His historical novels are amazing.

Petit- have you decided what to wear with your Carrie yet? I would have a plain fitted tee or vest top could work?

OllieinOrange · 22/07/2011 21:35

JA does airport chic so well imo here

OP posts:
AntPants1 · 23/07/2011 07:58

Interesting ollie about Kew. I have one very near me and have managed to get some really nice things there over the years. I definately see Kew as a cheaper (in both senses of the word) version of Jigsaw. Sill I nope they don't loose what currently works for kew in the revamp.

FritziGreenEyes · 23/07/2011 09:46

ollie Lovely to have you back Smile.

notyummy Fingers crossed that you will only wear shorts this weekend.

Had a Dermalogica facial yesterday and it was AMAZING! My skin analysis less so: severely dehydrated! Bought cleanser and moisturizer from their range for "prematurely aging skin" Shock.

florence Your new shoes look great! I can't remember which shoes I wore before I had my first pair of ballerina flats.

rufus Welcome back! Your holidays sounds fab. I am sure that the incident with the door in the restaurant will be told for many years to come Smile. You will look stunning in that dress!

DD has left with my treasure MIL this morning to spend a few days at their place, then a few days with my parents who live close to my in-laws. Have decided to meet my friend (who had the MC this week) on Sunday. We are having an authors' conference and she is nervous about about not having prepared everything well enough so I am trying to help out.

Welcome bela!

Sending good weather vibes to bloss!!!

red So nice that you made time to say goodbye to the places and people you love instead of just getting caught up in all the logistical and organisational things that come with moving houses. When is your actual moving date?

notyummy · 23/07/2011 14:15

Facial sounds great Fritzi!

Tent up, no rain but slightly chilly breeze so jeans on at the moment. Have applied holiday sun cream to bronze legs for shorts though as forecast hood for tomorrow.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Fleecy · 23/07/2011 18:44

I have those espadrilles in red bloss but I haven?t worn them yet. I thought they?d look nice with denim shorts or crops and a plain tank.

No S&B news to report here other than this which I picked up new on eBay for a bargain £35ish inc postage. I have started drawing up an A/W wishlist though ? anyone else been doing that? Mine is:
New white shirt (mine is past its best)
Berry colour jeans (Top Shop Baxters I think but too soon to buy)
Knitwear ? just a couple of simple fitted knits to throw on with skirts or jeans
Tweed jacket ? saw someone looking amazing in one the other day
Brown boots ? like the Burberry ones marsha linked to a while ago
Cream silk shirt
Chestnut bag ? something like the mini Alexa in conker but cheaper
Camel trousers ? like these DVF ones but cheaper
Navy pea coat
Mustard pointy courts ? loving this look but can?t find the shoes on site, grr!

Love the door story rufus although I?m sure it was a bit panicked at the time. Pretty Milly dress ? would it also work in winter with a little navy cardi and some tights?

I like that jumper Ollie and it?s a bit of a bargain. I think stripes will fade for a while but they?ll be back as it?s such a classic look.

Hope the rain holds off ny and you have lots of fun.

Hi to everyone else - hope you're all having good weekends Smile

MarshaBrady · 23/07/2011 18:55

Red when are you moving? it is very difficult. Saying goodbye, I have done it so many times with friends and family. Brother went back to Berlin today, but am looking at flights to visit. Closer than Aus in any case.

Amber I love the shopping with little bambino. It's nice when still in the nice cuddly zone. For bf'ding I ended up using an thin silk skirt under dresses so I could lift them up and bf! I did it for so long it would have been difficult to wipe out most of wardrobe.

Pickled I didn't mn in early years, it could have helped or actually remembering the mil problems I had, possibly not Grin

Verity lovely stuff, I adore pink and red and have finally got some from Sandro.

Anniemac bet you are having a wonderful time with your sister(s?). It's great isn't it to be with family for a bit.

Icecream, WAN hope you are feeling ok, not too sick.

NY enjoy camping.

Fritzi hope all is good. Have a lovely time with your friend.

florence great Lanvin shoes! I saw someone in them today, they looked good.

Rufus hello! Love the dress.

Ollie agree re popularity of elbow patches on slim-fitting jumpers.

Am waning... Grin hello to everyone. Did a blow out in Sandro today. Will try and find some links.

MarshaBrady · 23/07/2011 18:57

Fleecy hello! I LOVE those mustard pointy shoes too. All lovely stuff.

My list so far is a big plush cashmere blush scarf, boots possibly R Lauren ones and a bag. So far!

MarshaBrady · 23/07/2011 19:04

So Sandro. I had a three day going out for every meal sense of obliviousness in the store. I should possibly stick to online only.

lace top plus light coloured skirt.

red flippy floral skirt and watermelon jumper thing. And this red one for hanging about in over the summer.

spotty dress.

And some J brand skinny jeans from Matches sale.

MarshaBrady · 23/07/2011 19:08

skirt and top (but half price).

Now A/W.

Ambernj1 · 23/07/2011 19:32

Hello all

sad news about Amy - seems a real waste of exceptional talent.

Had a lovely day here, was DNephews' (4 & 1) joint birthday party today so spent afternoon with family which was lovely and DS had a great time (first party he's been to where he is old enough to understand and particpate). I wore Earharts, this top and bright yellow Supergas with my ancient battered CK denim jacket. DD wore her first ever dress (little yellow and White Breton number) and looked just gorgeous!

Someone (think it was Fritzi) asked me about the fit of the Earharts - I would say definitely go down a size, maybe two. They are great though, super comfy, I highly recommend - considering a second pair, they are £79.50 at Donna Ida.

Autumn wishlist a great idea! Definitely fancy coloured J Brands (maybe cobalt), Boden autumn breton in purple, snake print ballerinas, this bag, houlis and a Barbour international polarquilt. Sure there will be more to add!

Hope you've all had a lovely Saturday!

Fleecy · 23/07/2011 20:13

Good haul marsha and all of it lovely. I particularly like the lace top. Can see you looking fab in it.

amber you seem to have taken to life with 2 DC effortlessly. I'm sure it took me a while! I wasn't sure about all the quilted jackets last winter but have seen a couple I like recently. ASOS have a selection of nice Barbour and Penfield ones.

Fleecy · 23/07/2011 20:16

ooh checking out that Mulberry bag you linked to amber I've just remembered that I have a quilted dark red and black chain strap leopard bag in a similar size. I will have to dig that out for winter...

redllamayellowllama · 23/07/2011 21:56

Very saddened by the news in general today. DH and I went to see Amy Winehouse at Brixton Academy and she was just amazing; almost as if her voice came from a higher power. Such a waste of exceptional talent.

Hope camping is going well NY.

We move on Thursday Fritzi/Marsha (great Sandro haul btw) and I actually started packing today!

Nice wishlist Fleecy also like the Berry Baxters and have my eye on this navy coat.

Love the zebra top Amber.

Rufus glad you enjoyed ELO - Roary originally recommended. I still think about it now.

Agnes arrived and are going straight back - they looked bloody awful on me. What haven't I got that you all have?!!
