So, should I be panic-buying loads of coral coloured stuff or what?

Right so I got my colours done on the weekend (!) and I'm a bright/clear spring and to cut a long story short one of my really good colours is that pinky orange/coral that is about a lot at the moment, or flamingo pink, or a peachy pink. Coral, basically, is what it tends to be called.

Since then I've seen shedloads of coral coloured stuff about, much of it in the sale or about to be. Its possibly passed me by before now but I suspect it has been one of the season's "fashionable" colours - or is it always about of a summertime? Hmm Confused

Anyways. I've never been attracted to it on the hanger particularly but it does make me look 10 years younger and light up my face and make my eyes pop out in a good way and generally make me look like there's life in the old girl yet. Obviously there are lots of other colours that also looked good but none of them quite made the lady draping me and her other victim client's jaws drop to the floor quite so much

So is it a temporary thing, will this colour dissapear for approximately a decade till it comes back in again, or is it always about a bit in the summertime? If not, I guess I should buy a few key pieces in the size I ought to be my size? Confused

I am currently a facebook refusnik. If i set up a profile just for this, how do i avoid outing myself on mumsnet?

I have said too much about my kids to want to be identified

As to my ante n atal threads, well lets not go there.............

Dorothyredboots · 12/08/2011 13:10

YY to fb group. I'm on there with loads of pics - some shockers from pre HoC days - so assume there is some way members of a private group could see those? (daft ludite emoticon).

TattyDevine · 12/08/2011 13:13

Do you have to be friends with people to add them to a private group? I think you do - or perhaps not - anyway regardless, if you want a group to see photos you can "post" them in an album to the group if that makes sense. Would love to have a good nose!!! Particularly the pre ones just to see what the complete journey has done for you... Grin

Right, I've started a group, rather boringly named "Mumsnet Springs". Its secret at the moment as opposed to open or closed where people could search for it and find it. So if we keep it as "secret" it really is invite only. That said, its saying "choose friends to add to the group" so I think the easiest way if you don't object is to PM me a link to your facebook profile, and I'll add you as a friend. If that makes you uncomfy, you can probably tweak your privacy settings so I can't see anything you don't want me to see (or anyone else you add as friends in the process) as you can give certain friends limited access to your profile if you know how but you would have to google that. If there's a different or better way of doing this, let me know.

Oo do you have to be a "confirmed" spring to join (not in the religious sense : ) )

Been following this and reading loads, fairly confident Im a spring, got the really bright blue eyes, real contrast to my colouring, and coral has always made my look SO much better (as do the green and blue suggestions.)

TattyDevine · 12/08/2011 13:28

No that's fine Gillybobs, feel free to live as a "spring" in the meantime, as you are probably right!

Just to say, I'm popping out for the afternoon soon, so anyone else joining/adding etc I will sort late arvo/early evening!

Am confused. Thought was light spring, but gold jewellery and coral make me look ill. So am I light summer? too skint to get colours done this month, so relying on you ladies...

Hair is mousy/dirty blonde. Was v blonde as a child.
Eyes v blue. Dark brown/black eyebrows and lashes.
Skin pale. Goes red in the sun. I think it's a bit yellowy rather than pinky.

jbg · 12/08/2011 15:25

Thanks all, having read through the whole of this thread, I've made an appt with a HoC consultant for 22 August. I can't wait!

Dorothyredboots · 12/08/2011 15:46

jbg - you might be joining us in the Munsnet Springs group before you know it! You will save £££s
It really is the only way to be sure. The colours of the drapes the consultants use are very specific. Even they do not guess. Some peeps are much more obvious than others but some Winters look like Autumns, you can get very cool 'Spring into Winter' people. The main determining thing is if the underlying tone to the skin is BLUE (cool) or YELLOW (warm). Forget about pink tones in your skin. After that it is the depth of colour which determines Autumn or Spring and Summer or Winter. I accept that a natural redhead is 99% sure to be 'warm' but they can be Spring or Autumn - not all redheads are Autumn. Not all Winters have dark hair - DH is a Winter and his hair is almost silver, but when young his hair was brown, not black; his skin is 'blue' however and that will not change.
I know it sounds like a lot of twaddle but there is something to it. You will also have a lovely day and be made a fuss off. The consultants are there to make you feel special so lap it up!

CakeandRoses · 12/08/2011 16:53

Secret rather than just closed please tatty, with closed your fb friends can see you've posted to a group with that name whereas with secret there's no trace of it at all < paranoid >

You don't need to be friends to be in the group and see photos and posts posted to the group.

I'm a member of a few diff types of groups so am used to the different settings.

If you make me and you admin then we can both invite/approve new members.

My name is as per my album you've seen, can you find me on fb and send me and invite please?

Cheers!

< Very excited >

CakeandRoses · 12/08/2011 16:56

Thinking about it, the admin might need to be friends with each member, can't remember for sure tho

latherrinserepeat · 12/08/2011 21:44

Wow - I am not on mn as much as some of you but loads of lovely posts - will have a read and try to do a more detailed reply soon. But tatty pleased you like the hair although all the talk of shades and brands is way over my head (no pun intended!). I just go to the hairdresser and get a half head of highlights and leave it up to them really.

What should I be asking for other than warm shades? Am dark blonde and the high lights are really to break up the uniform colour and add texture as much as anything.

Cake and ruby I thought the style stuff and pen and lid analogy was good and I have just seen the other thread about styles ... I think I am a pretty safe Classic and as am pear shaped find it hard to get out of bootcut jeans and wide legged yoga pants and would love to know what to do to get a bit of a stylish twist - the HoC thing of two contrasting colours and a splash of a third is quite a departure so am def going to be working up to that! I am also not really a Facebook user but might give it a whirl for hair advice Grin

CakeandRoses · 12/08/2011 23:28

dorothy you'd have been proud of me today - i so rocked the 3 colour thing, in fact almost 4. i wore a beige/cream cami, THE pink scarf that tatty OKd earlier, navy cardi with a bright green trim and cuffs Shock and darkish blue jeans, beige wedges and pink toenails (or toe makeup as dh called it Grin)

and it felt good, not wacky like i was worried it might. dh complimented me too

also, as our resident spring expert, i'm interested to know your view on the subject of bright pinks and also the 'missing' style category

moragbellingham · 13/08/2011 08:54

I was a bit confused the more I read until I clicked on the blueprints link (thanks to whoever linked) and found an actual photo of someone with the exact same colouring, rather than a cartoon. Much more helpful I think and has proved my liking for bright & shiny colours was not just a magpie thing.

Disappointed to read that MAC's Viva Glam Cyndi is discontinued as it suited me and didn't find it too browm at all.
Clinique's Chunky Cherry chubbystick is going down well though.

Next time I'm out shopping I'm determined to find something terracotta to see if it really does work - it's just so 70s thoughGrin

I fancy a bit of HofC with my mum but it's a little impracticalSad so I have bought a book for her until we can enjoy a day out.

TattyDevine · 13/08/2011 10:44

I find my hair colour options turning to 2 different shades - both Loreal Excellence - one is 6.41 Light Amber Brown, and the other is 6.54 Light Copper Mahogany.

I was looking for the Hazlenut shade that Catswipe recommended, then realised that 6.41 Light Amber Brown is the same. Had to google to get that far.

It might not be my "root shade" on my natural colour but in terms of layering tones, bearing in mind my hair is already about a 6 and a half in terms of depth, I don't want to go too deep initially. So I might strand test this, and if I end up doing it and get "root glow", I know I need to go down a shade in my touch ups.

I wouldn't rule out going to my local Sally's and picking the brains of the lovely Essex girls ladies there to find my perfect "professional" shade either...I've heard the grey coverage is far superior...

so today i had my style day. amazing!!! i was soooo not what i thought i'd be but now i know it, it's spot-on. so i'm a......... natural-ingenue!!

tatty the natural encompasses the 'missing category' of boho/eclectic/ethnic that we thought was missing so makes complete sense now. the ingenue is princess (rather than queen), the girl (rather than woman), innocence and vulnerability and it's about liking details and prettiness. i came back and told my step-mother and she said 'of course, i always see you as 'pretty/bohemian'

i feel so empowered (scuse wankery) to be myself now and to stop trying to be a grown-up Grin

it seems far deeper than just clothes. you all have to do it!!

CakeandRoses · 13/08/2011 19:42

oh and fellow natural-ingenues include liv tyler, jemima khan, nicole kidman and jane seymour

Dorothyredboots · 13/08/2011 19:43

Told you it wasn't a lot of tosh! Glad you had a good day. Am putting a few links up on the FB page - just as things come to mind..
As I'm Ingenue as well we might be able to help one another! Being Gamine makes me even less grown up - at 55 that's sometimes tough!

TattyDevine · 13/08/2011 19:44

Ah!!!!

I think there is an element of natural about me.

Ingenue? There might be after all...or not. You are right, I have to do it.

I feel I'm too crass and brash!

thanks both of you

i reckon you'll be a natural-romantic tatty

Dorothyredboots · 13/08/2011 19:52

Natural Romantic - very 'big' and 'out there'. Pirates and highwaymen remember!

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 13/08/2011 20:33

{crash} anyone know if there's a MN thread for autumns?

KristinaM · 13/08/2011 21:49

Oh cake, that sounds very exciting. What have you to wear as a natural /ingenue?
