So, should I be panic-buying loads of coral coloured stuff or what?

Right so I got my colours done on the weekend (!) and I'm a bright/clear spring and to cut a long story short one of my really good colours is that pinky orange/coral that is about a lot at the moment, or flamingo pink, or a peachy pink. Coral, basically, is what it tends to be called.

Since then I've seen shedloads of coral coloured stuff about, much of it in the sale or about to be. Its possibly passed me by before now but I suspect it has been one of the season's "fashionable" colours - or is it always about of a summertime? Hmm Confused

Anyways. I've never been attracted to it on the hanger particularly but it does make me look 10 years younger and light up my face and make my eyes pop out in a good way and generally make me look like there's life in the old girl yet. Obviously there are lots of other colours that also looked good but none of them quite made the lady draping me and her other victim client's jaws drop to the floor quite so much

So is it a temporary thing, will this colour dissapear for approximately a decade till it comes back in again, or is it always about a bit in the summertime? If not, I guess I should buy a few key pieces in the size I ought to be my size? Confused

opal I have just remembered that when I had my consultation I was told that Brown should be my Black. I think HoC don't like us to have navy as it is one of our coldest, darkest colours and brown will always be warmer. I think there will be lots of Camel around this season which is a good, light neutral for us. It was all over the catwalks last year but didn't quite filter through to the High Street. I'm looking for a camel jacket to replace an expensive dark navy one that I had before my transformation Grin. I can now see the navy is way wrong.

Dorothyredboots · 18/08/2011 10:58

opal can you link to your Boden things?
I think it is a shame in a way to get navy for bags & stuff as there are lots of coloured accessories out there and you can always use them as a 'splash' - i.e your third colour. Doing this avoids the hated matchy-matchy situation.
I was told to do 'nude' tights and I don't like them with navy shoes - too bank/building society/air hostess uniform for me.

opalmum · 18/08/2011 17:38

Can't seem to link now, Dorothy, am on iPad, but they are the navy ballet flats and navy suede bag I linked to back on page 12.

opalmum · 18/08/2011 17:45

You know your onions, Dorothy! Camel was unfortunately one of my worst colours.have you got your eye on any camel jackets ATM? but chocolate brown could be a really good neutral alternative colour. I'll just have to get over my brownie uniform flashbacks.

If any "springs" wish to join our Facebook group, which is "secret" therefore your friends won't see your random witterings, message me or Cakes with a link to your Facebook profile, we will add you as a friend and then "join" you to the group. If you don't want a "random" friend on facebook, just hide us once "friends" or make your profile secret/limited to us once friends. All you give away then is your "identity" (that sounds like a lot!!!) which we will never "repeat" on here but you can then take part in our Spring page which has exceeded my expectations and reads like a blog with loads of shopping links and "spring" talk (even more than this thread!!!)

I think I am "lucky" with navy. I have it 1 star at 100% and 2 stars at 75% (coats, suits, sundress, dress)

I saw This in good ol' Matalan today and it would be great on me - bear in mind the Navy is much lighter and brighter than what appears though.

But the bright navy buys are few and far between which makes me think I should snap them up where I can. Most navys are dark and drab (but in a good way if you are winter or whatever...

Dorothy what is this HoC booklet of which you speak? I was given a swatch book plus list of the colours and that was it - no info on blending colours or using accessories. < feels diddled >
Maybe I should call the new consultant and demand ask for a copy, or is five years since my consultation with her predecessor pushing it?

CakeandRoses · 18/08/2011 19:43

morag it's Dresses > Maxis > Off-the shoulder pleated dress

dorothy i still don't see how navy can be hard for me and a 2* at 100% colour. my colouring is quite contrasty and all my star colours are dark brights so maybe paintbox springs can take the contrast more?

Dorothyredboots · 18/08/2011 20:13

WhatsWrong - I got a spiral bound booklet which says Spring on the cover. It says a bit about the colours in general and this is what it says about Navy:-
" BLUES: Starting with navy which should be as light and bright as possible and always worn with your better colours as it can be hard on you. The best blue is a bright, true blue - but don't go into light blues".
The booklet gives some suggested combinations and at the back is a fold out bit with the make up colours. It is quite small but looking at it does help to reinforce what you were told/forgot/ignored at your consultation.
Cake I'm 2 at 100% for Navy too. It's only me who is obsessed by this, but when I think of 'the words' (Clear, Bright, Warm & Light) I just don't see Navy. I wore it a lot pre HoC, instead of black. Personally I don't think it's 2 on me, and it is one person's subjective opinion that says it is - not a 'rule'. I'm a bright blue eyed spring with mousey hair and very pale so I can't take a lot of high contrast - I need my Navy with another strong, mid colour (Poppy, Violet, Kerry Green) rather than cream or peach etc. If you have darker hair & eyes then you can probably take it. We can all see what looks best in the mirror. I'm just trying to flag up to peeps that there are other options and we should not just run to Navy automatically!

Dorothyredboots · 18/08/2011 20:17

WhatsWrong if you message me with your e-mail addy I will scan the useful pages out of the booklet and e-mail them. Anyone else too who does not have said bible. (Hopeful of working the technology out emoticon)

TattyDevine · 18/08/2011 20:38

"If you have darker hair & eyes then you can probably take it"

I am dark (comparitively - its at least "brown") haired and "dark" eyed. - really they are quite dark for a spring, probably as "dark" as spring eyes get - and I can take it, but its still not 2 stars. So I suspect you are right.

I am very high contrast - very pale skin, very "dark" eyes, hair looks "dark" in comparison to skin and then matches eyes.

It is subjective, but suspect navy is never one of our "best" colours. Even with my high contrast and "darkness" its still supposed to be in a print, not 100%, or sundress, etc etc.

Dorothy that's so kind - am PMing you.

moragbellingham · 18/08/2011 21:27

Lovely dress cake - very Hollywood old school glamour. The first person I thought of wearing something like that would be Liz Taylor (in her younger years). You can tell I'm not good at this cos surely she'd be a winter.

Please may I have some help if I PM you tomorrow?

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 18/08/2011 21:44

Have just spent 20 mins trying to find link to navy crew jacket I bought in the summer.

Sounds awful I think but have had lots of compliments about it. I do think navy works well for me so long as not too much of it. But then I think jacket also works on me because the style is right so maybe it's that as much as the navy iyswim.

link is nowhere to be found.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 18/08/2011 21:45

I love the dress too btw

CakeandRoses · 19/08/2011 08:31

yy, it is a bit young liz taylor and dorothy would say it is in no way spring - bright navy otherwise.

dorothy suggested i might be a spring going into winter and this page would suggest that could be the case (annoyingly the actual colours they used are crap)

RipMacWinkle · 19/08/2011 21:30

Ok so I'm trying again - saw this in Oasis yesterday and it did seem to be light and bright but I thought I'd ask the Spring experts... what do you think?

Is this a "Spring" green?

CakeandRoses · 20/08/2011 09:22

that is so pwetty rip - very ingenue! i think it might be a bit muted due to the fact it's semi-see-thru

if you like ingenue type stuff then you might like this dress - the jury's out on whether it's a spring pink, will know when it arrives [free returns emoticon]

the bloody fb group is making me spend loads of money - it should come with a financial health warning!

CakeandRoses · 20/08/2011 09:25

think i bought the last 10 as that's now out of stock

RipMacWinkle · 20/08/2011 09:45

Ah has the action moved to the FB group? Wondered why it was so quiet on a Friday Night Grin

CakeandRoses · 20/08/2011 09:58

yeah, i wouldn't have described us as quiet last night! i paused my dvd for about an hour to chat shit about bright colours Grin

if you wanna join then just pm me your real name on fb. tatty's explained what happens in a post late last week.

CakeandRoses · 20/08/2011 10:03

oh and if you're still wondering about having a style day. one week on from mine and it's made a huge difference to how i think about clothes and shop. i would actually say getting your style right is more important than colour .

i thought i knew my style too but now i really know it i understand all the little 'mistakes' i was making which resulted in unloved, unworn clothes or having to wear things because they were £££ and never feeling great in them. it's so specific (covers size and shape of jewellery, lapels, frills, buttons, hair style, and it's that that makes a real difference now in assessing whether i should buy something.

what do you think you would be, out of interest? most people are 2 types and the consultant will explain how to blend them.

CakeandRoses · 20/08/2011 10:04

sorry, her post was this week not last week Confused

raspberryroop · 20/08/2011 15:58

Having my colours done on Friday as have been so inspired this thread - ! Anticipate being a spring but will be interesting to find what type as am a funny mix. Pale skin that tans ok, naturally mousey hair but look ok either ash or golden blonde, soft navy eyes with dark outer ring.

Facinated by this style personality, think am a dramatic natural by personality but am to short for dramatic apparently

CakeandRoses · 20/08/2011 18:00

aha, glad to see another victim convert to this wankery Grin

re your height and the dramatic thing - i think it's fine when they blend two - eg i'm too tall for ingenue but fine for natural
