So, should I be panic-buying loads of coral coloured stuff or what?

TattyDevine · 28/06/2011 21:22

Right so I got my colours done on the weekend (!) and I'm a bright/clear spring and to cut a long story short one of my really good colours is that pinky orange/coral that is about a lot at the moment, or flamingo pink, or a peachy pink. Coral, basically, is what it tends to be called.

Since then I've seen shedloads of coral coloured stuff about, much of it in the sale or about to be. Its possibly passed me by before now but I suspect it has been one of the season's "fashionable" colours - or is it always about of a summertime? Hmm Confused

Anyways. I've never been attracted to it on the hanger particularly but it does make me look 10 years younger and light up my face and make my eyes pop out in a good way and generally make me look like there's life in the old girl yet. Obviously there are lots of other colours that also looked good but none of them quite made the lady draping me and her other victim client's jaws drop to the floor quite so much

So is it a temporary thing, will this colour dissapear for approximately a decade till it comes back in again, or is it always about a bit in the summertime? If not, I guess I should buy a few key pieces in the size I ought to be my size? Confused

Good luck tatty! Why can't you do a temporary colour on it? And you must post pics of it today!

TattyDevine · 11/08/2011 17:53

Yes, I could do a temp, if I do, I'll go get one tomorrow. I think I am optimisitcally thinking it wont be too bad. I'm seeing some ginger at the roots though Grin

If its seriously bad once dried I will drive to Boots or Tesco later and pick up an 8 wash medium which covered it over well enough last time to an acceptable light warm brown (which is sort of what I want to be anyway!!!)

Lets see how bad it is.

Will try and do some pics if still got natural light otherwise, tomorrow morning...

Right, I'm cooked! I'm not going to do photos tonight, too knackered and MrDevine is home from his business trip and feeling travel-sick (trains to and from Manchester rock back and forth apparently?!?) so I will lavish attention and sympathy upon him.

But I am very pleased with the outcome and its not so dogey I can't go out in public. Its a light gingery brown, basically! Its not worlds apart from the kind of shade I want to achieve actually though I want a richer shinier tone, but its kind of good actually because it allows me to "try before I buy" a warm gingery brown! Its fairly even from root to tip and its muted not bright so I don't feel at all silly going out in public! There's no need for me to rush the permenant dye when I do it, it needn't particularly be Monday, I can wait the full week if I want, but knowing me I wont! I don't want to reoxidise though.

What a great product! Feels nice and soft, though I left the conditioner in for ages because I'd run out of water by that stage...all that rinsing - and we have power showers so I put the conditioner in and left it for an hour or so and rinsed it out when I had some more hot water which I think was probably a good thing!

Photos tomorrow - I'll do a shot of me with makeup in correct colours and my new "in between" hair which isn't worlds apart from my next shade...

L'oreal Excellence Creme in Hazelnut is a lovely shade. Have you tried it?

RipMacWinkle · 11/08/2011 22:10

Can't wait to see some pics TD.

This evening I dug out my booklet to check my ** colours etc. I'm feeling a little colour-revitalised again. Thanks to this thread.

Cheers all

CakeandRoses · 11/08/2011 22:11

i agree it's an amazing product tatty, i'll love you forever for recommending it to me. i'm so happy with my hair at the moment.

so how do you feel being ginger-rooted warm brown now? i feel excited for you

twooter a cami and leggings sounds a good idea, thank you. not black ones of course tho Grin

dorothy why did you put ingenue and gamine together there? Confused

Celeb style types:

Scarlet johanssen - ingenue?

monica belluci - romantic?

fearne cotton - dramatic romantic (i have this secret illusion that i have the same style as her when in actual fact i was rocking pure mumstyle in a fricking whitestuff actual tunic today Hmm). incidentally, do you think she's a spring? lots of pics of her in gorgeous brights like this

natalie portman - gamine?

cameron diaz - natural?

CakeandRoses · 11/08/2011 22:12

the lady's not for turning from her clairol catswipe Grin

CakeandRoses · 11/08/2011 22:17

checked out zara lately? some great coloured dresses for most seasons

am in love with this one but would look monoboob with current bf boobs Sad)

catswipe · 11/08/2011 22:19

Mid golden chestnut is a rare find. You've got to get it where you can! I have never found the Clairol stays put personally but then again I'm pretty grey. It also stings a bit too.

CakeandRoses · 11/08/2011 22:24

someone once described my hair as hazelnut actually catswipe

Rev084 · 11/08/2011 22:25

Try Esprit online? They do lots of classic/basic styles and this yrs autumn/winter collection has some brighter colours than your typical A/W stuff found on the high street. Free n speedy delivery too. Have always loved La Redoute too, especially the Soft Grey section.

TattyDevine · 12/08/2011 07:32

I wouldn't rule out a Loreal shade. If I ever start using professional dye which I might well do one day soon (there's another active thread - look out for Otchyananiye's posts on the matter she is very knowledgeable) then it would be Loreal as when I was salon-dyed I went to a loreal salon and then I went somewhere else that used Wella and it was nowhere near as good.

If I can't find the correct shade with Clairol then I would look elsewhere and my next choice would be Loreal. I'll see how my strand test turns out, but will look out for that shade in the meantime just in case it is "the one" as I do have semi doubts about the shade I have chosen but only from the box. Strand test in a few days! Agree that Clairol doesn't last quite as well as Loreal...

Will check out those Zara dresses. I always end up buying ££££ of kids clothes when I go on that site and then nothing for me. Not that I'm some kind of mummy-martyr by any stretch

Ah I was rocking a white stuff tunic yesterday Blush - tough, I was having a blah day so ner. Feel quite Grin and preeny today so that's something. Photos later! Mwah x

Cake I put Gamine & Ingenue together as that is what I am.
It has been explained to me like this:-
Broadly your body shape determines the first bit and the personality determines the second bit. Imagine you have a pen; that is your body. Then you need to put a lid on the pen; that is your personality bit. So, I have a Gamine body (angular, boyish) but my personality is Ingenue and that is my pen lid.
Of course, put down like this it is very crude and we are all somewhere on a huge spectrum and interpret our type differently. My friend's future Daughter-in-law is same as me, but she does a lot more Ingenue girly stuff than me. She is in her 20s so it's easier for her to put flowers in her hair & wear 'little girl' type things than it is for me at 55 (reaching for the mint sauce). I am almost a Gamine pen with a Gamine lid IYSWIM. Last time I saw my consultant she said I was 'doing it so well' so I'm happy and feel it reflects 'me'.

Of course rubes! to be honest the main reason I'm feeling so motivated about it is prob down to having this thread. Even tho our colours are diff to yours, the approach to changing your clothes etc is the same. You mght be able to recruit enough summers on here to have a summer thread of your own one day. either way, happy to have you :)

Get those pics on tatty!!

Despite my mumstyle yday I did feel like I'm starting to get my head round the colours more and I can see the difference, yesterday I wore I mix of navy, pink, coral (in top and beads) with blue jeggings. My makeup has become a mix of grey liner, brown mascara and goldish eyeshadow - sounds gross but I think it's working, have left my lips and blusher as before as nothing else seems to suit me and they're a warm pink/red anyway.

TattyDevine · 12/08/2011 09:14

Right I've done one! The light is not brilliant this morning but it shows it well enough. I've made it my main profile pic so you should be able to see it by just clicking on my name!

What do you reckon? I quite like this colour for now - its allowing me to try out a lighter warmer shade before I decide on the real deal! Grin

So glad its presentable in the meantime, was worried it would be straw like or uneven tones from root to tip (that said there are a few darker strands at the back - but literally only strands, don't know if I've reoxidised overnight or if I missed a bit!) - not staw like because of condition, but often if you remove a lot of colour it has that appearance - in fact I think highlights can sometimes look a bit dull and straw like unless you use a lot of serum or smooth the cuticle with GHD's or whatever.

Yay!

TattyDevine · 12/08/2011 09:15

If you want to "compare" it to my old colour, click on my photos page, because its on there too, but so are the old photos. I deliberately wore the same top and makeup colours for an accurate comparison!

CakeandRoses · 12/08/2011 09:45

tatty it really suits you! Def right move to go lighter/warmer. I reck you could easily go warmer again.

I just showed ds (nearly 3) and he said you look pretty :)

Dorothyredboots · 12/08/2011 09:57

rubes - I know a little about Summers as I have two friends who are that season. You need to wear your colours differently to us Springs. We are encouraged to wear 3 or 4 different colours together as we are bright and active and 'energetic'. You Summers need to think more in terms of several shades of the same colour IYSWIM. So several aqua tones, perhaps with a navy. Or your pinks with a Raspberry. Or several greys together and so on. We would do aqua, grey and coral all together (reaches for sunglasses to deflect glare from Spring clothing).

Dorothyredboots · 12/08/2011 09:59

tatty agree with cake. You look great and your hair is beautiful. I too think you could go warmer/lighter.

TattyDevine · 12/08/2011 10:02

Aw how cute Cakes. Yeah baby, I've still got it...

Haha. I emailed it to my mum who loved it. She doesn't like me too brown. She is stuck in the 80's before I started messing with my hair and she remembers me as very very light brown that shone red and gold in the sun and lightened to a golden tone in the summer. Fair enough - its not like that now, its darkened with age but it is still not a deep brown tone.

I wonder a bit if slapping a Light Chestnut Brown over it will deepen it too much considering its already a light brown...hard to say. I will do some reseach over the next week or so and will try not to bore you all with it too much but will keep you posted if any decisions are made Wink

I am inspired and have made sure I am wearing a top in my correct colours today. I am full of the joys of spring!!! Grin

OP posts:
TattyDevine · 12/08/2011 10:05

Thanks DorothyRedBoots! I am really pleased with the outcome considering ColourB4 can produce some pretty scary results depending on your hair's history.

Of course it depends a bit what you've done to it in the past and the worst outcomes are for those who don't suit any ginger tones - Summers et al - but Springs can't go too wrong.
