So, should I be panic-buying loads of coral coloured stuff or what?

Right so I got my colours done on the weekend (!) and I'm a bright/clear spring and to cut a long story short one of my really good colours is that pinky orange/coral that is about a lot at the moment, or flamingo pink, or a peachy pink. Coral, basically, is what it tends to be called.

Since then I've seen shedloads of coral coloured stuff about, much of it in the sale or about to be. Its possibly passed me by before now but I suspect it has been one of the season's "fashionable" colours - or is it always about of a summertime? Hmm Confused

Anyways. I've never been attracted to it on the hanger particularly but it does make me look 10 years younger and light up my face and make my eyes pop out in a good way and generally make me look like there's life in the old girl yet. Obviously there are lots of other colours that also looked good but none of them quite made the lady draping me and her other victim client's jaws drop to the floor quite so much

So is it a temporary thing, will this colour dissapear for approximately a decade till it comes back in again, or is it always about a bit in the summertime? If not, I guess I should buy a few key pieces in the size I ought to be my size? Confused

and totally agree about how useful cream can be but hadn't even processed the thought that it had to be warm (inexcusable given i have to know colours for my job!)

Gillybobs · 17/08/2011 11:15

A few things on Boden cake like this ??

Gillybobs · 17/08/2011 11:16

or this ??

Dorothyredboots · 17/08/2011 11:33

I don't think the Joules stuff is right. Boden worry me when they say the words 'soft aqua' - that's Summer in my book and usually is cool.
I'll have a scout round. I'm not always brilliant at links Blush so bear with me!

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 11:35

thank you gilly they're close but not quite small/pretty enough print for my ingenue-side

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 11:37

this bloody soft aqua colour is such a pain - it;s so not spring but i'm always drawn to it

Dorothyredboots · 17/08/2011 11:44

Cake - step away from the scarf - bad girl. So wrong.

Dorothyredboots · 17/08/2011 12:33

This is pretty but I guess the shape is probably wrong - the print makes it 'girly' though.

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 12:50

i know dorothy Sad

i really like that blouse. do you think the shape is too 'straight lines' for me? it has a lot of things in its favour

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 14:49

my consultant thought the shirt was great dorothy. a success!! thank you

WhatsWrongWithYou · 17/08/2011 15:06

This Zara top any good Cake? Not sure about spring shades but it looks a bit warm for me. I noticed a few on the Zara site - they occasionally have something ingenue amongst all the shapeless baggy stuff!

Dorothyredboots · 17/08/2011 20:02

WhatsWrong - the colour is too dark for Spring - looks more like Autumn's Kingfisher to me. Sorry. (dreadfully fussy emoticon).
Cake Oh goody - I'm not too bad at this actually. I find it easier to shop for others. It is perhaps a bit straight but we all have to accept that you seldom get a garment that is 100% right in every respect. Soooo, you need to think about honouring your natural in the rest of your outfit - looser bottom half, accessories, shoes and jewellery and don't forget that a bag can make a big statement. You could put a suede type waistcoat over it. Roll/push up the sleeves. It's all about the little touches. Remember how the consultant demonstrates at the style day by removing accessories?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 17/08/2011 20:25

'S okay Dorothy Smile. I've never really paid attention to the warm palettes - it's been enough of a challenge getting to grips with my own! I must say, the more I hear about everyone else's consultants the more I think mine was a bit on the meh side. Or maybe I just didn't take enough notes.
But I know she retired quite soon after my session, so she may have been coasting a bit by then.

I have since had a shopping session with an independent consultant who was trained at HoC - she was like a human whirlwind in the shops but she really helped me to clarify the look I should be going for in my own head, and got me over trying to hide my figure in loose clothing.

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 21:22

how's shop.mango.com/ficha.faces?state=she_006_IN this for bright navy? am looking for something to wear on my 40th altho this might be a bit much if we just have a informal house party. love it tho

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 21:30

what do you think of the colours of this t-shirt - i'm wondering if the cream(?) and blue could be good. i think i'd get lots of use out of this kind of t shirt

moragbellingham · 17/08/2011 21:35

Oh good, I was beginning to wonder if I was really a spring as the last few links would've done nothing for me (can't open the mango one cake and am now intigues by bright navy).

Dorothyredboots · 17/08/2011 22:19

Cake I can't open your links but I'm going to make an observation anyway Grin. Bright navy is all well and good, and may be double star, 100% fabby dabby, BUT navy is hard for us - it is best for when we need authority, not fun! Try not to just swap navy for black - remember those Spring words.

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 22:38

it's a lovely blue imo morag (it is one of my 2* colours tho so i could be biaised) it's a light navy but bright not a faded one

i reckon this is a pretty good ingenue t- shirt, i'm prob going to order both colours unless dorothy tells me off

i'm not sure if the link will work actually - think there's an issue with them

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 23:15

sorry xposted in an old window there dorothy. i see what you mean about navy but it does really suit me. i guess it doesn't lend itself to a nice, bright springy feel tho.

i've just ordered the shirt you found plus some other tops - 1 in bright blue (i hope) and 2 in red you'll be pleased to know

CakeandRoses · 17/08/2011 23:16

oh and i think i'm finding the navy thing harder as i'd pretty much swapped it for black a year ago so i've become quite reliant on it now as i already have many items in it (not all bright navy of course tho)

opalmum · 18/08/2011 08:15

Oh, no, no navy you say? That has scuppered my plan to avoid looking like a wacky colourful children's entertainer.

Dorothyredboots · 18/08/2011 08:46

opal - I'm not saying no navy, by any means. I'm just saying that it is not one of our easiest colours and needs to be used carefully and Spring-ily! I think it says somewhere in the HoC booklet that Navy can be 'hard' on us. On its own it's not very uplifting and that true yellow based Bright Navy is very hard to find. Put it with another 100% colour in and interesting combination and it's fab.
Just seems to me if you use Navy with a light colour (ivory/cream) you are in danger of replicating the high definition, high contrast Winter look. Totally accept that there are times when the children's entertainer look can be a faux pas and happily roll out the Navy then (but never can resist some red or green shoes with it!).

moragbellingham · 18/08/2011 09:45

cake - can you describe what the mango item in bright navy is and i'll look it up? Am intrugued by the colour I should be looking for now.

opalmum · 18/08/2011 10:10

Fair point Dorothy, navy can be really harsh. think I will need to use the navy a bit more sparingly. Shame because it's an easy neutral substitute for black like you say. I was focussing on getting some good quality basics in neutrals to start with before going too colour mad. Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but kettlewell colours are having a sale, good time to stock up on basic layering pieces, they are good quality.

opalmum · 18/08/2011 10:35

Well, the Boden shoes and bag have arrived, but no sign of the boots yet, WWWY. They look really put together but not too matchy matchy, only problem is, they are navy.hmmm.
Thought it looked ok, because the bag has oatmealish stitching that picked up the yellow vest I just happened to have on, although with navy trousers I can see that it is navy overkill. They do suit natural romantic tho, being soft rounded shape and bag is suede.
