Most detested makeup brands

Benefit - beneshit. Make up for teenagers or people who know bugger all about makeup but like the twee packaging. And it stinks.

Max factor - nothing I have ever bought from that range works. Infinity lipstick made me look like dried up hag, the cream blush has texture of ronseal, eyeshadows are crap, foundations crap colours.

MOST of maybelline. I tried that Eraser stuff out of morbid curiosity, it looked awful, like I had smeared PVA glue on my face. However I have a cream blusher from there which I love.

Clarins. I just don't get it.

Rimmel - I KNOW they are cheap, but they are worse than Maybelline, which is about the same price. I've never once tried one of their foundations and not looked either chalking pink or brick dust orange.

But REVLON is lovely. It's a little higher priced than Rimmel/Maybelline/Bourjois but it is MUCH much better quality, and if I can stretch to it, I will. the phot finish foundation is lovely, not a hint of orange, and the lipsticks last for hours without feelling dry. They do need a brand overhaul, they are very 90s-American, whereas their actual products are modern and nice.

I bought the famous Mac blusher in orgasm but don't know what makes it so special. Makes me look too shiny!! Also, bought a Chanel nail varnish that was sold out everywhere - Paradoxal - awful colour and really thin and streaky.

applecrumbleandcream · 20/06/2011 14:01

I agree about Revlon - love their nail varnishes. Also like the 6h lip gloss from Lloreal.

TattyDevine · 20/06/2011 14:02

Do you mean Nars Orgasm apple crumble or do mac have one too?

AitchTwoOh · 20/06/2011 14:03

best tweezers are slanted from superdrug. think about £3 and exactly the same as tweezerman but less sharp (which is a good thing imo)

AitchTwoOh · 20/06/2011 14:04

agree about orgasm by nars, very glittery. it suits blondes imo better than brunettes.

GetOrf · 20/06/2011 14:04

I spend a fortune on foundations - By Terry and Lancome.

Brands I use all the time are
Lancome (eyeshadows best ever, foundation for every day)
By Terry (foundation on special occasions, concealer),
Revlon (all sorts, am so glad someone else agrees that it is great but needs a rebrand),
Tesco Make up (brilliant stuff, cream blush, high light stuff, liquid eyeliners, primer)
Loreal (primer, superliner),
Estee Lauder (kohl)
Collection 2000 (liquid eyeliner)
Guerlain (bronzer)

Maybelline. Mascara is always dried up and everything else just feels cheap and not fit for purpose.

To be honest, I buy very few ranges. I stick to Nars, Laura Mercier, YSL and the odd bit of Boots own brand stuff. Oh, and Loreal only for the telescopic mascara.

RIPSambuccaKelly · 20/06/2011 14:06

Oh, and Essie for nail polish.

GetOrf · 20/06/2011 14:06

Rimmel foundations are awful. I bought one once when I went away and forgot my makeup bag Shock and it was terrible, felt really gritty and looked ghastly.

Best all round cheapo make up ranges are Tesco or Collection 2000 imo.

AitchTwoOh · 20/06/2011 14:08

agree re tesco. barbra daly stuff is great.

GetOrf · 20/06/2011 14:08

Oh and that Country Collections stuff which Boots sell is good for the price, you get 3 things for a fiver. Good liquid blush in that range, and I bought a green kohl pencil which wasn't bad.

Rimmel is cheap crap which isn't even that cheap any more.

Does anyone else own about a dozen juicy tubes? I am sure mine breed.

I have tried other lipglosses but juicy tubes are great (Lancome also do fantastic goody bags as well, I use their bifacil cleanser and when I replenish I usually buy another juice tube and get a bag full of goodies. The moisturisres in the goody bags last me for ages).

by terry

benefit

ShirleyKnot · 20/06/2011 14:17

I used to love juicy tubes, but I find them a bit sticky now.

(as my lips are withering away)

TheBride · 20/06/2011 14:17

Yes- people keep giving them to me and I frikkin' hate them. My hair sticks to them. They really piss me off.

I appreciate this is all lip glosses, and not a peculiar trait of Juicy Tubes but Juicy Tubes epitomise the lipgloss experience.

GetOrf · 20/06/2011 14:18

Give 'em to me.

I love them.

I don't really like lipstick as the texture is too heavy so stick to lipgloss.

Don't get hair/makeup sticky traumas.

at By Terry dissing.

Just because you think it sounds like terry and June.

I used to be Juicy Tube addict, but have sacked them off in favour of another Clinique product, Super Balm, which is slightly less shiny and more moisturising. Lovely stuff. Forgot to mention that.

Have never heard of By Terry. What's that all abaaaaht then?

Will also have to try Tesco stuff, now! Have always turned my nose up at it

Oh yeah, and another shite make up brand is Bodyshop. I have been conned into buying their make up products a few times and have always been bitterly disappointed.

RIPSambuccaKelly · 20/06/2011 14:23

Oh Juicy Tubes are lacome arent they? Doh.

Clinique Super balm. Tis the way.

RIPSambuccaKelly · 20/06/2011 14:23

Lancome. I wish I could type properly...

TattyDevine · 20/06/2011 14:25

I've never got along with lipgloss. Its the hair sticking that gets me. I just don't like the way it feels on my lips, all heavy and sticky.

I'm yet to find one I like.

applecrumbleandcream · 20/06/2011 14:26

Yep sorry Nars not Mac orgasm blusher, it is very glittery on me too - perhaps its the way I put it on!!

GetOrf · 20/06/2011 14:28

I don't think I have even set foot in a Body Shop since the 90s.

Are they still open? It seems such a meh shop now I don't care about against animal testing cloth bags.

Yes try Tesco makeup - think one of their foundations is made by the same who make Chantecaille (I read that on here).

Their primer and highlighter stuff is fantastic. Really top range imo.

I have never tried Chanel or Dior make up (their foundations don't suit so I curl my lip at them for that reason).

Space NK sell By Terry stuff, it is lovely (best textured makeup imo) but costs a bloody fortune. But the women in Space NK are fantastic, it looks slightly intimidating but they are very friendly and give you oodles of freebies when you buy something from there.

DiNammic · 20/06/2011 14:29

lol at chantecaille and tesco
yeah right
