I am wearing a white polo shirt. I have never felt so frumpy in my life.

I am sure I have seen women look nice in polo shirts of all colours. Okay, not stunningly glam, but perfectly fine for a normal day.

I look fucking horrendous.

Are there polo shirt do's and don'ts?

Is there any way to rescue the situation, or shall I shove it to the back of the wardrobe and Never Speak Of It Again?

Fim, tell me more about 'Seasalt' shop.
I have a sweatshirt from there but until now am blissfully unaware of any ... unpleasantness.

NorksAreMessy · 21/06/2011 22:21

Seasalt is PerUna for people who thnk they are cool.
Every item you mention moondog has its place.

Crocs - are for gardening, beaches and dog walking ONLY
Tee shirts are for WORK
Tie dye is for festivals
Denim skirts are for the late 1970s and for trendy grannies

Polo shirts are for playing polo

moondog · 21/06/2011 22:25

So a sort of nautical/holiday mode Per Una?

Fuck me, it will have to come to the farm then.

moondog · 21/06/2011 22:26

Excuse excess bad language.
Am all worked up

NorksAreMessy · 21/06/2011 22:27

Yup Cornish PerUna

PerPisky?

moondog · 21/06/2011 22:29

OMFG

NorksAreMessy · 21/06/2011 22:32

Good luck Moondog You, and only you, have the attitude to pull this off.

I think norks has summed up seasalt quite perfectly. It reminds me of a tad more upmarket Bon Marche. Almost like Nando's being one step up from MacDonalds.

Fimbo · 22/06/2011 17:22

\link{http://www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/acatalog/womens-gilets-and-fleeces.php\Anything catch your eye?}. Well soft?????? ffs.

allhailtheaubergine · 22/06/2011 17:32

Ooh, I like Per Una and I think I'm cool.

allhail... have you tried teaming your polo shirt with some cropped pleat- waisted slacks (with a high polyester %) and some gold sandals Grin

Fimbo · 22/06/2011 17:44

FGM otherwise known as the Landsend look.

allhailtheaubergine · 22/06/2011 18:00

They were NOT pleat waisted.

For good measure, pose on a landing jetty with your hand to your forehead and scan the horizon, with a gently chortling grey haired chap in a fleece by your side.

Smashing.

NorksAreMessy · 22/06/2011 19:37

Fimbo I rest my case.
Just because SeaSalt have a pine-floored shop in StIves doesn't make the clothes nice

See also FatFace and WhiteStuff.

Sometimes there are nice things, but you have to kiss a lot of fleecy frogs

NorksAreMessy · 22/06/2011 19:39

And LandsEnd ....OMG!
I think even LOOKING at anything LandsEndy...catalogue, website, advert, immediately turns you into a midwestern American soccer mom.....and the may be no way home.
BE CAREFUL

moondog · 22/06/2011 20:01

The kind that has an auburn bob, glasses, a gleaming smile and wears white socks with shorts....

Terrifying.

stripeytiger · 22/06/2011 20:24

This thread is great.

Fimbo - what did your dh do in the Seasalt shop that was very childish - please share :o

itsababslife · 22/06/2011 22:24

I too have to sport the polo shirt, navy trousers combo to work and feel a complete and utter frump in them. The damn things are supposedly designed to be "unisex" i.e. for blokes, and so are completely shapeless.

Never was there a more unflattering garment.

Hate them

moondog · 22/06/2011 22:32

Ate you a physio Its?
Standard combo for them in these parts.

NeonGolden · 22/06/2011 22:41

My boyfriends parents went on holiday to Turkey a couple of weeks ago and bought us back gifts... He got underwear and a watch, I got a lovely handbag and an AWFUL white Tommy Hilfiger polo shirt.

I really don't get it, I've NEVER worn a polo shirt in my life, I never even wear trousers (what else does it look good with?) and they know I hate things with labels on them... It was just so wrong in so many ways. I feel so guilty for not liking it too! His mum told me twenty times that if I didn't like it I should just say so, but honestly, how could I? Luckily it fits my BF perfectly (and he looks rather good in it), so the story is that it was just too big for me!

NeonGolden · 22/06/2011 22:42

Didn't mean to sound so ungrateful on the last post, honestly, it was so unbelievably sweet of them to bring me a gift, I'm just a bit baffled because the handbag is beautiful and usually his mum has an idea of what I'd like :)

NeonGolden · 22/06/2011 22:43

and BROUGHT not bought. Sorry for the 3x post!

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 22/06/2011 23:18

White doesn't suit me. Could it be the same for you ?
Plus polo shirts are slightly weird anyway, n'est pa ? Grin

  • especially on women.
Polo shirt golden rules ... Kids - OK Girls - OK Men - OK Women - not OK There's so much else to choose from other than a white polo shirt. At least you can see it doesn't look good. That's more than half the battle.
EcoLady · 22/06/2011 23:36

If I'm not in full office attire, I have to wear either white or bottle green polos at work. Not a good look with 32H boobs!

And then I'm also a Brownie Guider, so I have a white uniform polo and a 'raspberry' one too (it's shocking pink).

Practical? Certainly. Flattering? Never!
