I need to freshen up my look, am stuck in a rut with hairstyle and make up. But I don't really know where to start!

Anyone got any styling tips to share?

Tatty im thinking they mean neutral warm neutral cool. Not hundred percent on it though.

ggirl · 14/06/2011 22:08

?tatty?- I have blue eyes and dark brown hair ..the brown summer was at a house of colour group sessions about 15 yrs ago.She had real trouble placing me.
winter was someone about 5 yrs ago from ..hmm can't remember which company
?VivianDarkbloom? my lashes look amazing now if I do say so myself. Supposed to last 12 weeks but I doubt it'll last that long. Watch this space..
Makes such a difference .

TattyDevine · 14/06/2011 22:14

Ah well all my MAC stuff has always been NW so that further gives me a clue.

The bit that doesn't sit well with me for a Deep Autumn is I'm not sure I'm deep enough...hair is naturally quite a light slightly warm brown and skin is beyond pale if I don't do any tanning. Eye's are very very dark brown. Its weird!

But I'm just not "cool" enough to be deep winter I don't think, nor dark enough really.

Too dark for spring, or maybe not...

Arghrr.

See I would have thought Cool Winter for dark brown hair and blue eyes but I guess there's more to it than that...

Its hard to be objective too...

Shrieking with laughter at House of Colour website - "Give him a voucher to get his colours done for a fathers day gift!"

Almost worth the £££ to see the look on DH's face..

TattyDevine · 15/06/2011 07:01

Like a dissapointed dog at dinnertime...

muddlinleigh · 15/06/2011 08:03

I've got warm olivey skin but my MAC colour is NC25 so it doesn't necessarily follow that if you use a NW tone that your skin is warm coloured.

TattyDevine · 15/06/2011 08:26

See they say olive skin is "cool" though Muddlin...that whilst it is dark, the tones are cool, or some such. I have to admit it makes no sense to me at all the warm cool thing as I get it all confused with light and dark and I suppose because skin is always SOME kind of beige/peach unless very far into the brown/black zone, I can't see how all skin can't be warm - i.e take a cool skinned person's foundation, put it on white paper and it will ALWAYS look warm! It will look peach or apricot or beige or gold or something!

So I am utterly confused about that factor and that's why I need to be draped I think before I can really work out if I'm warm or cool.

I really do find that aspect of it baffling though. Hair is easy is it gold/red or not, easy peasy, but skin is a minefield!

ggirl hoe did you do those bold dots?

CountBapula · 15/06/2011 09:41

Use oil on your face at night, rather than night cream. You will wake up velvety smooth and beauteous. I use Clarins Huile Santal, which smells divine and isn't at all greasy.

TracyK · 15/06/2011 10:42

Tatty - can't you bring your HOC forward to this weekend??????????? MUCH too long to wait!

TracyK · 15/06/2011 10:54

What do you think of the demo video on HOC? I thought the presenter looked better in the colours they said weren't her colours?? I thought she looked a bit wishy washy in the pinks.

TattyDevine · 15/06/2011 11:24

Well I think its very hard to depict on a computer screen or on film at all to be honest, unless the lighting is really spot on. They all look a bit ashy and sick.

Be interesting to see in real life. Wish I could bring it forward to this weekend!

I have been trying to test drape myself of course. But its just not the same trying to find your ideal red with a pair of Spiderman jocks, a Liverpool football scarf and an Ann Summers she-devil dress up... Confused

ggirl · 15/06/2011 13:10

pinot i pressed the alt key instead of the capital letter one..on mac

BovrilonToast · 15/06/2011 13:13

ggirl I am a "deep brown summer* the consultant (she actually owns HOC) said we are very rare!

I've got reddy/brown/blondy hair, muddy green eyes and skin the colour of skimmed milk...

I've found that know what colours really work for me has been great, it does make a difference... if you can't arsed coughing up then just hold up anything you are thinking of buying to your face - if you look like you've slept well and your skin looks brighter, it's probably one of your colours!!

CalamityKate · 15/06/2011 14:11

I've just discovered that even with little piggy eyes, black eyeliner on the top lids (with nothing underneath except mascara) makes them look bigger rather than smaller, especially if you get the little "tick" right. Not a huge "CatsEye" tick - just a little one that almost looks like a long eyelash.

ggirl · 15/06/2011 14:37

BovrilonToast ooh how nice to be a rarity! so do you look nice in teals/purples . I tend to veer to those colours.

ggirl · 15/06/2011 14:37

and do you wear black?

alemci · 15/06/2011 18:52

Wiggy, I use wheatsheaf too, great colour and use a contrasting eyeliner.

On the top lid only, tight to the lashes. I love purple - great for green eyes too. If the line is a little harsh, apply wheatsheaf over the top to soften it. Gorgeous! Is it the liquid eyeliner? That needs practice and a steady hand. Look down into a hand mirror and take your time!

Also pull your brow up using a finger to tighten the skin And wipe the excess on the tube. Have lots of remover ready and don't stop til you do it Grin

coffeeinbed · 16/06/2011 17:25

Tatty you just changed my life!
So I can have olive skin and cool colouring. My veins are blue, but I always thought I was warm, because I an easily.
my tip - don'me afraid to mix - I mix foundation, Strobe cream and can change the proportions to adjust to how tanned I am.

coffeeinbed · 16/06/2011 17:26

not an, tan!
Sorry!
