£85 for a dress from Monsoon! It was for a wedding so I felt justified, kind of, but also v. guilty....

sahm3 · 17/05/2011 13:49

THe most expensive dress i have was just under £500, but I have worn it 6 times in the last 12 months alone, and it has many more outings planned. I have one maybe two splurges a year. I dont see a problem in it if they are worn.

LawrieMarlow · 17/05/2011 13:52

About £90 I think

Mahraih · 17/05/2011 13:55

£200, for 6th form leaver's ball.

Learned my lesson, it wasn't worth it. If I ever buy anything so expensive again, it will be plain black, and in a durable fabric, rather than cream chiffon!

Please upload photo!

The dress I bought for my DD's wedding was just over 700pounds Shock but it was stunning!!

I didnt buy my shoes and bag from the same shop though as I was to mean to pay almost 200pounds each for them, but got perfectly matched shoes and bag from Faith for 75pounds.

If anyone here knows Catherines of Partick in Glasgow you'll know that was one of the "cheaper" dresses Grin

I only went to have a look and get an idea of what style I'd like, but I loved it, my daughter loved and my mum loved it!!

I honestly felt like royalty that day and although I will never wear it again it was worth every penny!

equinox · 17/05/2011 14:18

In 1986 I spent £300 on one single outfit! It was designer needless to say.

I was only size 8 then too. Not fair, now a size 14!

ShowOfHands · 17/05/2011 14:22

I don't recall ever spending more than £15 on a dress and that was a one off. I tend to shop in charity shops or make my own tbh. I've seen a dress that's £33 (in a sale) and I adore it but just can't justify the cash (my iron's blown up and needs replacing).

Fimbo · 17/05/2011 14:24

£80 and that was many many moons ago when Laura Ashley did some decent stuff.

Mumelie · 17/05/2011 16:56

About £100 on a Monsoon evening dress I wore for an hour (was ill but determind to go) and it sits in my wardrobe waiting for me to slim back into it :-(

carriedababi · 17/05/2011 17:30

mrsp, i' love to see a pic

equinox, i bet that was a hell of a lot in the 80's

£120 for my bro's wedding this summer. Not like me, but worth it and it will have much more future than some of the other options I considered. If the sweat patches come out Hmm.

ViolaTricolor · 17/05/2011 17:36

This summer? I meant the 'summer' we just had, in April...

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 17/05/2011 17:38

£270 for a fabulous black and grey jersey dress from Vivienne Westwood Anglomania www.net-a-porter.com/product/97782.

Sleepwhenidie · 17/05/2011 17:46

Ooh katemiddleton are you pleased with it? I am so tempted by this one

In response to OP, about £600 on a stunning DVF party dress, three years ago, I love it and although it only gets worn a few times a year I am sure I will still be wearing it in ten years time.

Sleepwhenidie · 17/05/2011 17:49

What I'd really love is this one but I couldn't bring myself to part with that much!

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 17/05/2011 17:52

@sleep - I LOVE it. Prior to this purchase I'd never paid more than maybe £120ish for a dress - say Hobbs prices. It's ridiculously flattering - the XL says it's for a 14 iirc but I'm more like a 16/18 - as I lose weight it looks better - but it exaggerates the good curves, and sort of disguises the bad ones. I'm a total convert. I am desperate to buy the black drapey suit thing www.net-a-porter.com/product/97766 but no money at present.

Sleepwhenidie · 17/05/2011 18:00

That skirt is gorgeous, I was looking at it the other day, bit too formal for my life as SAHM though Smile.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 17/05/2011 18:03

£30 probably.

I don't like spending huge amounts of money on clothes.

Spent about £50 on a suit, but that was for job interviews.....otehr than that I find it hard to justify more than £30 on a single item of clotheing.

That said if I had hte wedding onf a close friend/family to go to it might be different.

Last wedding i Spent £10 on a dress (reduced from £75 in teh sale, but would have happily spent £40 on it cos it was gorgeous). £4 on a cardigan shrug thing from Asda
£10ish on shoes in the sale
£15 on a bra
£10ish on thigh reducing knickers.

usualsuspect · 17/05/2011 18:04

Is this one of those stealth boasting threads? Grin

I never wear dresses so £0

carriedababi · 17/05/2011 18:54

usual promise its not boasting, im not a boaster
im quite self depricating

its more of a oh fuck feel a bit guilty but still pleased i gt it type thing!

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 17/05/2011 18:55

I know ,I was joking Grin

SherlockHolmes · 17/05/2011 18:58

£150. Panicked about it for ages, only for it to be reduced to half price after Christmas Sad.

It is, however, the most beautiful and flattering dress I've ever owned, and as it's black I imagine it will last for many years to come.
